Lavar is shown in this video on ESPN motion, saying that he covered for coach gibbs??

Why is it that all these players that leave always have to get in the last word per say. Antonio did it last year, lavar this year, if he continues doing this crap he's gonna find all the good will from the fans is going to disappear pretty damn quickly.

Still love ya Lavar, but SHUT UP, your a giant now, no need to mention us anymore.

I would love to see the entire interview. From what I can gather Lavar seems pretty adamant about him and Joe not being on the same page. Sure...Lavar does seem a little sour. I always thought that he enjoyed being a Redskin. He's more than likely not happy about how he left the organization. Oh well...I'm sure Joe Gibbs has a lot more on his mind than worrying about a disgruntled linebacker.

I was always a fan of Lavar's potential - and we would see flashes. However, he's just not consistent with his abilities. We'll see how he fares as a Giant.

I really don't want to sour on LA because of his time here but he is making that increasingly difficult. And the "covering for a coach" line? Note he had no explanation for whatever that was supposed to mean. He made it up on the spot.
"I wasn't one of his guys" but "I was a Redskin"

That doesn't make any sense at all, no one in their right mind would buy the idea that a guy who gave it his all and did what was asked of him would have issues with Gibbs.

This is the same crap he did when he was here. He's constantly opening his mouth and whining about something. We'll see how Coughlin treats him when he starts pouring his heart out to ESPN about him.

Im glad he's off this team more than ever. Sadly that hasn't rid us of his mouth.

I don't believe he was talking about Gibbs...I think he was talking about SS becuase he said he was covering the coach when they were losing and then added "I'm still in the NFL" All he said about Gibbs was that he was never one of Gibbs' guy

I think he did mean Gibbs, but his line of, "I'm still in the NFL" was his way of saying he could not say in public what it was he was covering for Gibbs, since the question asked was about being or not being one of Joe's "guys".

Sorry, DE, whether he meant Gibbs or Spurrier, he left it hanging... suggesting that he knows that folks will believe he means Gibbs. Personally, I think he did mean Gibbs, and what a load of crap that is. Shame on Lavar.

You can bet that Gibbs will remain above it all. You will never hear a word of disparagement towards LA from him. Who is the classier of the two?

You can also anticipate that there will be a few current Redskins who will take exception. LA may have a couple of difficult games if he continues to provide bulletin board fodder.

The reason he wasn't talking about Gibbs was because the question that Stephen A. Smith asked that prompted the response "I'm still in the NFL" was "What do you mean you covered the coach" This after Lavar talked about how much he played to win when they were losing...you can't say Gibbs was losing after going to the playoff, I think his comments are being taking way out of context!! What I really got from the nterview was...that Lavar always was and still wanted to be a Redskin and is very hurt that he isn't Two cents

It never ceases to amaze me that SOMEHOW ESPN becomes a believable news source when they're printing what you want to hear... wonder why they get away with what they do? :hmm:

I'm not judging the situation, but I will say that when lavar was in D.C., most of the press about him was false or completely sensationalized... we're to believe it's different now? I think DE hit the nail on the head... some of you need to learn to read between the lines more because on face alone... you'll just end up looking as misinformed or malicious as ESPN does a lot of the time.

I don't know that I agree that Lavar has been deliberately sensationalized over the years. Frankly, I think that Lavar is a master of forcing others to fill in the blanks. This interview would be consistent with that. I think that Lavar is brilliant, not only athletically, but intellectually as well. He knows exactly what he is doing, and he knows exactly what the press will do with whatever comes out of his mouth. Lavar enjoys being the center of controversy (though never approaching the level of a "Primetime" or "TO"... he still has far more class than either of them). I suspect that was his intention here, and to suggest that he is somehow the victim is just wrong (though he would love to be painted that way). For that to be true would require that Lavar be stupid. We all know better.

I suspect that Coughlin flinched mightily when he heard this interview. He understands the importance of the bullitin board. The Redskins coaching staff does, as well.

Make no mistake...LaVar is a very smart man. He does some dumb things, especially where shaving cream is involved. (Note to LA: Never the menthol !!) but he is a sharp guy.
What he is doing is being coy, but the message is the same. He wants the Giant fans to know that (as far as he is concerned) the only reason he wasn't a starter for the entire season last year was because he fell out of favor with the staff, not because he didn't have the talent/ability/health to play. He's getting his new town ready for the hype. Perhaps the #55 jerseys aren't flying off the shelves as fast as he'd like.
LA is being LA. First and foremost, he is a businessman. Don't pay it any mind...he's a sprained ankle away from three months off.

Back when the organization was struggling, it was looking for a face. Someone to be a leader. A high profile player, with no hestancy for talking, Lavar became that face, the symbol of the Redskins. He thought that by just being a Redskin, by not talking trash about his coaches or teammates, by staying out of trouble, he was being a 'true' Redskin. Then Joe Gibbs arrived.

I think the difficulty Lavar is having in understanding the gap between 'being a Redskin' and 'being one of Joe's guys' is simple: Joe's guys ARE Redskins. There's more to being a Redskin, a true Redskin, than what Lavar was doing for so many years, and I think while he thought he was doing everything that was required of being a Redskin, he really wasn't. I don't think its his fault, he was just accustomed to a different idea of what makes up a 'true Redskin', which was developed during the dark 'no Gibbs' days. I don't expect him to ever 'get it'.

Last year, when he was playing more, he claimed that, after the whole fuss was made, he agreed to play special teams, or whatever it took to be a part of the team. I have a feeling that the criteria of being a true Redskin is that the coaches should have to ask you to play special teams. How much coaxing do you think it took for Lemar Marshal to play ST? Marcus Washington? Sean Taylor?

Anyway, I think Lavar is just upset that he doesn't get it. Deep down, he may want to be a Redskin, but just didn't know how.
