Best and Worst

Post by 1niksder »

At this point, who has had the best draft so far.

I'll go with the a tie between the Cards and the Titans. Both teams grabbing falling Trojans. the worst has to be the team that signed their no. 1 pick last night. Bush may have held out but it wouldn't have lasted with all the other mess that's going on.

I like what Houston has done -- and I'm not kidding:

Mario Williams de
DeMeco Ryans lb
Charles Spencer ot
Eric Winston ot

They had two weaknesses coming into the draft -- defense and OL. They adressed those needs pretty well. The 2 defensive players will start, one of the OTs will as well.

Add that to David Carr, Andre Johnson, Eric Moulds, & Dom. Davis and I see them winning maybe 3 more games this year.

(I'm thinking Kubiak will turn this team around in a few years. Plus they added Sage R and ND Kalu to the team, they gotta be good!)

Good: Arizona has been drafting VERY well the last few years and they've done really well so far this year. Rolle, Dansby, Fitzgerald, Boldin, Watson, Leinart, Pope, Latui. There's others but I think they've been drafting better than anyone the last few years.

Dallas selected Carpenter, Fasano, and Hatcher so far. Good picks in my opinion.

Tennessee - Great picks so far with Young and White. I think Lowry will do well, too.

Houston - already stated above about their O-Line problem. I'm glad to see they've started to address that situation with TALENTED o-lineman instead of old, journeyman free agents. I don't know why but it's been bugging me for a while. I guess because it's been so obvious and they have failed to address it. Ryans and Williams will help a lot as well.

New England - Jackson and Mauroney will boost their offense a lot. THey also got a good kicker from Memphis.

Other good drafts: NYG, NYJ, St. Louis, San Fran, Philly, Green Bay, and Seattle.

Bad: Buffalo seems to be off target with their selections. Not a very good draft this year. I guess they want their whole defensive secondary to be former Buckeyes.

Chicago got a great athlete in Hester but he may not be as good of a FOOTBALL player as they want him to be. They didn't address offense, either.

I'd put NO & Philla on the bad list. Neither addressed their biggest needs on day 1 (WR for Philla & OL for NO).
I think SF & TN really helped themselves.

THey did well considering, but I just can't see why they pass up Bush for Williams..the last defensive end that went #1 was Courtney Brown.

I understand the logic, but Kubiak implements the most effective zone running offense in football. I just don't understand why you don't take the best open field or "zone" runner to come out of college in many years. I guess he is confident that his scheme will turn anyone into a 1200 yard back...that may be true, but not without an O-Line.

Overall they've done well and they will win some games..but they better pray that Williams is more like Ju Pep, than Courtney Brown.

It was a weak WR class, and the Eagles think Reggie Brown will be their go-to guy.

I was surprised the Eagles passed on Chad Jackson, but I guess you had to take Winston Justice with that pick...he was a steal

Yeah, Philthy's draft was sick. Justice and that huge Guard they got in the 5th. Thank god their acumen at Free Agency isn't as good as with drafting...

I liked Phillies draft class, too. The only thing about it is that they traded several veteran lineman to be able to draft the new guys. I wonder if the new guys will be starters early in the season. Even if they are, though, I think Reid will have them prepared. Now my thoughts on the draft:

I'm scared of the fact that Dallas picked up Fassano. This way they could run sets with Fassano or Witten on the same side as TO and have another TE out there to expose loose coverage.

I know that Carolina picked up a very capable TE in Jeff King in the 5th round. I think that he would have been a first day selection if VT had used him properly senior year.

Can we call Virginia Tech the farm team for Atlanta, now with 3 of the 4 starting DBs being from VT?

Arizona stole Leinart, a better QB (not athlete) than Vince Young IMO.

What was Buffalo thinking? I had never even heard of Whitner before.

Didn't Chicago need some offense?

As with everything, I don't know what I'm talking about. Thats what these exectutives get paid to do. Hopefully I'll see that I'm right years down the road.

Oh, and I think Reggie Bush CAN be covered by a LB by most teams in the league, counter to what the ESPN guys say. Xavier Adibi - A College LB at VT - had him blanketed in the first half of the BCC at FedEx 2 years ago before tearing his bicep. Although Adibi is very athletic, I think NFL LB's should be able to cover him decently well. I view him as being a Brian Westbrook-type player at best. I'm being a homer when I make this assertion, but I'm more than willing to be the first to admit when and if Bush proves me wrong.

How can NO be losers when they might have just taken on of the greatest running back talents of all time to go along with Deuce which will give them thunder and lightning like Bush was accustomed to at USC.

Bush is going to be a cancer in NO and leave when his contract is up if they can even get one done.

How many yards will Bish gain behind those cardboard cutouts posing as an O-line? If they don't upgrade soon, Bush won't last 3 years.

Ya, two good drafts and a lot of potential, but not much defense. They'll score some point now! Good for Fantasy points............

Especially with the division that their in! Nobody in that division has a top 10 defense and at least two of them are bottom five! Gosh, I can't wait for my fantasy draft!
