??Draft trade

Post by fleetus »

Did we just give the Jets two 2nd rd. picks and a 6th just to move up from #53 to #35? If so, why on earth do we continue to overpay to move up in the draft. Are they using a different chart than the rest of the league? Geeeeeeez.

Redskins get: 3rd pick of 2nd round. (selected RB Rocky McIntosh).
Jets get: 21st pick in 2nd round (53rd overall), 20th in 6th round (189 overall) in 2006 draft and a 2nd-pick in 2007.

Yeah, we just got played.

Either that or we are freaking stupid, because here is what I'm sure happened.

At the start of the second round there DeMeco Ryans and DQwell Jackson were there. So we THINK that at least one of them will be there so we start to negioate with the Jets.

And in a dumbass move we make the trade before hand, and then with our luck Ryans and Jackson go back to back, and we tried to scramble to get out of the pick because we did a dumbass move in the first place to get in it, without knowing who was going to be there.

If you noticed, we waited the whole 9 Minutes to make the pick becasue I'm sure we tried to trade out of it, because we EAISLY could have got McIntosh at 53.

WE GOT SCREWED.

It's just our luck that the two players we want, and who we think will be there so we trade beforehand, and then get SCREWED!!

And frick, we gave up a fricken 6th this, and a 2nd next year to get screwed and pick a guy who would have been there at 53.

And what about Abdul Hodge!?!?! He's better than McIntosh!

I think once we made the deal, and found out the 2 guys we wanted went right in front of us, we freaked out and picked McIntosh without looking at our options.

Here's who was still there at 35:
-Abdul Hodge
-Jimmy Williams
-Max Jean Gilles
-Ashton Youboty
-Winston Justice

We just got fricken screwed.

You don't make a trade unless our guy is there.

You pretty much just called Gibbs and Williams idiots.

I understand you don't agree with the pick, but I think our guys know what they are doing.

Actually, looking at what the Patriots gave up to move into the spot below us, I'm not sure we did get screwed.

They flipped 2nd round spots, and gave up a 3rd rounder in this draft. I think traditional value is 2nd rounder next year is about equivalent in value to a 3rd rounder this year.

We sure don't like having a full complement of draft picks, that's for sure.

They went up and got the guy they wanted, All three LBs where looked at and two came off the board, one team moved up to get Jackson. You don't wait around and hope that the last guy is still there almost 20 picks later.

The Redskins don't use the draft like other teams and looking at the roster maybe 2 guys that join the team this weekend will make the final cut, so trading picks doesn't hurt the team or the Danny

First off, I don't think that Williams and Gibbs are idiots, it's that they gambled, and they lost.

Sure McIntosh is a good player, but we did not trade up to 35 to pick him.

If you were watching the draft, you could see when Boomer was talking to Paul Tagliabue, and the Browns were on the clock, that is when we traded up to 35. And I am pretty sure that the reason we traded up was to get D'Qwell Jackson (who was still on the board when we traded)

But then about 45 Seconds after we traded the Browns picked D'Qwell Jackson, and we got SCREWED.

Then we hit panic mode and I'm sure tried to RE-TRADE the pick becuause the guy we wanted, was UNEXPECTEDLY gone. However we couldn't get a deal done in the 9 Mins. so we picked McIntosh, we were targeting at 53.

Sure McIntosh is a good player, but is he worth trading up for, and losing a 6th and next years 2nd...

IMO, I would rather have taken Abdul Hodge. But hopefully McIntosh proves me wrong and plays like a true LB from The U.

Rocky McIntosh
OLB | (6'2", 237, 4.63) | MIAMI (FLA.)

Overall: McIntosh redshirted in 2001 and was a part-time starter the next two seasons (2002-'03) before taking over as the team's starting SLB during his junior season in 2004. McIntosh finished second on the team with 111 total tackles as a junior. He also has 13 tackles for loss, four sacks and three passes broken up. McIntosh started all 12 games as a senior in 2005 and finished with 89 tackles (team-high), 10 TFL, 5.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries and on forced fumble. McIntosh is a versatile prospect with experience at all three linebacker positions. He was bothered by a lingering shoulder injury in 2004 but still had a productive season and he continued to make positive strides as a senior in 2005. McIntosh still has room to improve in terms of his upper-body strength and ability to take on and disengage from blockers. However, McIntosh has the physical tools ...

Yes, all three LB's looked good, but I can't believe we would give up 2 extra picks to get Rocky McIntosh.

I really believe we traded up in advance, just like we did last year to get Campbell, but this year we wanted Jackson.

And while last year the gamble worked, this year we got screwed and we had to pick the last case scnerio guy.

We got a good player at a need position... but we gave up too much to get him.

... and the Eagles just got the steal of the draft in Justice.

McIntosh would have been there at 53. This trade was a big waste.

Did we even work out Jackson?
I know he showed up and talked to the coaches but I think that was it.
How are you so sure we wanted him?

Oh dang, the Eagle just got Justice... IN THE SECOND ROUND!
They were supposed to get him in the first round!

How do they get so lucky, and we get so screwed in drafts.

Gibbs said that they didn't think he was going to be there at 53.

They were eye balling other players at 53.

Until Gibbs realizes that they aren't being efficient in the draft, nothing in our F/O will change. We all know Danny doesn't breathe without Joes permission.

How can anyone say last year's swap with Denver 'worked'?!? Campbell hasn't played a snap yet, and it looks like Gibbs doesn't want him to see the field this year either. It's hardly a great deal if you get a guy who isn't actually playing for you.

If this Mcintosh guy doesn't work out we'll just deal with Holdman again and get someone else next year at about five minutes after midnight on March 3rd.

I really don't see this as a big deal. But thats just me.

Besides if this Macintosh guy is better than Holdman we made a good pick.

I was listing to espn radio right before the Redskins pick and the guys on the the draft coverage said the Skins were in love with Rocky. So I think they got the guy they really wanted and that should be good enough.

Its not "ok" when we consistently overpay for most of our acquisitions/trades. Im tired of this team being on the short end of the stick in these situations. We gave Denver too much in 2 consecutive seasons and we gave up too much for Rocky.

Sure we'll all root for the guy but we're giving away picks. We're giving away chances to get great guys in the draft.
