I think they're going over board with this. Remeber the Philly game when Sean dove into the endzone and everyone piled on him? Would that have been a penalty? If so then this rule is totally wrong. I dont mind them stopping someone from pulling out a cell phone, thats cool but trying to put the lid on emotion is a horrible idea. This game is sweat, tears, emotion...and seeing it expressed is a great part of the game.
I think that football is a team game, and they should encourage group celebrations instead of individual ones.
No worse decision was ever made than when they outlawed the fun bunch.

There is no retaliation in football except for penalties.
In baseball if you were to hit a home run and then dance at home plate, or stand there and admire it you'd get a 100 mph fastball up your arse.
In basketball if you dunked and then did a dance, and got in someone's face, you don't have pads to protect you, and you'd get clocked.
In hockey... well we know all about what happens in hockey.
I like the idea of group celebrations as in piling on the player, jumping up into another players arms, jumping up to high five, but mostly... players should act like they've been there before.

The celebrations are awsome in football, taking that away just simply sucks! It's fun to do for players and it's fun to watch for us. They need to lighten up and stop crying about people dancing or giving a football CPR. big babies.

Terri, I gathered that the Rules Committee was asking that spontaneous acts of enthusiasm be allowed and almost anything goes that does not involve props. I also thought that they were saying that the official would verbally ask the players to stop doing something that might be considered too over the top and only then if the "act" continued would the team be penalised on the next kickoff. This is what has been requested but we have not seen them make this a part of the rule changes yet.
I like the spontaneous outbursts but I also think that any form of taunting or provoking should be dealt with. I think there are too many times that a player verbally or physically attempts to show up others and that should result in very serious penalties.
I think that the game is great and the players should be allowed to be spontaneous but no form of putting down another player or team should be tolerated.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

I personally like the celebrations but I think the NFL thinks the group stuff slows down the game.
Then put a dang clock on it! If the celebration goes longer than the play clock you get hit with delay of game. Its that simple! I don't know what the league's problem is. Celebrations rule! The league already got rid of the fun bunch. If they get rid of individual celebrations then this game is gonna suck. There won't be as much excitement when scoring.

Because celebrations take up time they could be using for commericals. It's all about $$$.

They don't celebrate sportsmanship, but individuality. That must give those other coaches headaches.

Especailly Chad Johnson and Steve Smith's. And Portis had some nice ones too this year.

So why are they coaches? If they CAN'T control their players/children then they need to be fired. They need to instill a sense of morality and sportsmanship into their children, they are supposed to be the role models, not the atheletes.

Good point. You make a strong case for the need of good leadership, particularly when dealing with youth. In addition to great leadership, these coaches require time with their players. Some teams would benefit more in the "W" column if those coaches could focus more of their time making sure everyone is on the same page of the game plan rather than trying to tell "Junior" that he's not T.O. or Joe Horn. There's nothing wrong with kids being individuals, but it's demoralizing to the team concept when a player puts his own accolades before the rest of the team's, without whom those cats would never be "great".

It would be much better if the TEAM could celebrate a touchdown THEY scored. If only Laundry and them Cowboys hadn't cried about it for so long and for so many different times. I wish they would kill that rule and let the TEAM celebrate THEIR score. That would solve the problem of a player putting his own accolades before the rest of his team. At least I think so!
