Just like quarterbacks, one defensive player might be allowed direct communication with the coaches next season.
The competition committee will recommend that a defense has the same option as an offense in that area. As of now, quarterbacks get instructions through a small speaker in the helmet until there are 15 seconds remaining on the play clock.
"We hope to get away from offenses - I don't want to say stealing, so borrowing - signals from the sideline (for defenses)," McKay said.
Im really excited about this. I LOVE watching our defense play. Defense is so great because they have the ability to become an offense. Not only can they stop you from scoring but they can take it away and score. The offense is one dimensional from a standpoint of positivity.
Its pretty obvious that the NFL is inching away from the true game of football and are trying to make it more "fun" to watch and to make it more "exciting" by giving the offense all kinds of new rules to help them. I think this will help defenses catch up a bit.
Can you imagine if they let Gregg put a speaker in Lemars ear? It'd be chaos!
I'd like to see this. Why not make it a true chess match. Right now the offense calls plays after they see the substitutions that the defense makes and I think that isn't fair. I just would like to see it be a more balanced game. I like big defensive plays but I also like to see big offensive plays. I guess I'd just like to see closer games as far as scores go. Not so much 10-13 but something like that.
This will never pass. They only make new rules to help the offense, not the defense.
