Sports Agent
I read that Sean Taylor and Clinton Portis are clients of Drew Rosenhaus, suppossedly Rosenhaus was the inspiration for the Bob Sugar character in Jerry Maguire, although I hated that character I think I may wish to pursue a career in Player Management and possibly become an agent. My question for the more knowledgeable among us is...what course should one take to become an agent, outside of a law degree.
Any ideas are appreciated.

If you want to represent NFL players you must have a knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Most agents are lawyers also, but not all of them are.
You have to pass a test that is largely based on the CBA and basic labor issues. There really is no course of study unless you go to a school that has sports management as a major. Even having all of that information doesn't gurantee you anything because you have to recruit players. Without any contacts or methods to get access to the athletes then you won't be able to sustain a viable career as an agent.
SPIT HAPPENS!!

Towson has a sports managment program if you are in the MD area. I was in it for a while, not a lot of lucrative options in that line of work for the most part, but it is interesting.

One of my good friends from law school wants to be a sports agent. Getting into that job market is very, very difficult, unless you have inside connections with up and coming athletes. Most established sports agents don't want to have anything to do with new people, and most athletes are only willing to give their business to established agents. There are a LOT of people certified to be NFL agents, but as I recall, only like 10% of all the NFL certified agents even have one single client.

Here's a list of sports agents.
You could, along with following The Hogster's advice, you could call some of those numbers and get some advice from the agents themselves. If you call, you will probably get the receptionist.

I am majoring in Sports Management at the University of South Carolina and I hope to be an agent or work in the front office of an NFL or MLB team. USC hooks up students with other graduates who are in your prospective field. A lot of guys from school who are interning now have worked with individual agents or in Minor League or Arena League front offices. Major Universities have this advantage, so thats the route I'm taking. I hope this is of some use to you.
Still Loyal. Go Skins!

I'm not sure if the Law School has a Sports Law Program, but I'm sure you can check the USC Law School Website and it will give you all you need to know about the Law School. I would think it does, because the school is pretty comprehensive and the University has a good Sports And Entertainment Management program to go along with it. I wish I could say for sure, but I don't know enough about the Law School to say. Always good to see a fellow Carolinian Redskin.
