Recurring Dreams
I don't think I dream that much but when I do, lately, I've had this recurring dream that bugs the crap out of me:
I'm in law school and I walk into a classroom about to take a major test. I'm unprepared. I have no clue. I'm going to fail. I'm filled with anxiety. My future as a lawyer is shot.
After a while, I wake up and realize...."Geez. I'm already a lawyer. Whew! That was close!"
Anyone else out there have recurring dreams?
(I didn't post this in SMACK but if some of you feel the need to post a Smack-type dream, ask a MOD to move it...I guess.)

Sure, I keep having this dream about that pizza hut commercial with Jessica Simpson singing, "These Boots were made for walking..." -- except she's only wearing the boots!

"The biggest misrepresentation there is that [it's because] Dan's got a lot of money. That's not it," Gibbs said. "We've got a rule. Believe me, if we had no rules, Dan would spend some money."

JH, are you maybe subconciously afraid that your budding private practice might not take off? (How's that going by the way?)
That could be it...

Slow, but I expected that. I'm doing "conflict" cases to supplement my paying clients. FYI, a "conflict" case is a court-appointed case when a person has a co-defendant represented by the Public Defender's office. In those cases, the Public Defender can't represent "both" defendants so private attorneys are solicited to become "conflict" counsel.
Pays $60.00/hour, which is pretty cheap, but...again...it supplements my other income. Other than the conflict cases (I've had 9 thus far), I have had 12 "paying" clients.
I think things will take off in April, when the Yellow Pages come out. It's also a matter of weeks before my firm is added to Lawyers.com, which will also help.
A lot of friends told me it'll take about 6 months to really "get going". I hope that's the case.

Awesome, you know, they say in any new business you'll lose money the first year, however it looks like you're moving a little faster than that. (Unless you sold the farm for your awesome looking office you showed us.)
How many cases have you gone to trial with yet as a private attorney?

None. The only "trials" I've had pled out. The DUI cases I had pled to lesser charges. No trials yet.
Hey, if I can make money without going to trial, all the better. Trials take up time.
I've got a DUI trial scheduled for this Thursday but I'm trying to convince the prosecutor (someone I actually trained) to just drop the charge outright because I think he has no chance of winning. We'll see.

Trials take up time, but I thought time was money?
How does pay work when you go to trial? Do you still get paid per hour? Is there a set price per ay for a trial? How does it work?

I charge a flat fee, depending on the charge. If we resolve the case without a trial (via plea or dismissal), I refund 25% of the fee charged.

Are you representing him now or something?I mean, you're sticking up for him. Did he pay you to make case of him NOT posting stupid stuff, but being misunderstood?
I'm just wondering!
No, not at all. The brutha has just never done anything to me, individually, to piss me off like he has obviously done to a lot of other people. Just because you like kickin' his buttocks doesn't mean I have to.
I'm not sure I would call that "sticking up for him." Whether or not one considers his posts "stupid"; however, I suppose, is in the eyes of the reader. I may not agree with a lot of his posts, but it's certainly not enough to upset me to the degree that he's upset other folks around here.
