NFL says commissioner Tagliabue to retire in July

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

NFL says commissioner Tagliabue to retire in July

Roger Goodell, the NFL's chief operating officer, and Atlanta general manager Rich McKay are the two leading candidates to succeed Tagliabue. Baltimore Ravens president Dick Cass is considered a dark horse.

Goodell has worked side by side with Tagliabue on numerous issues, ranging from franchise stability, new stadium construction, TV contract negotiations and the most recent collective bargaining agreement, in which he was an active participant.

I really, really hope Goodell gets the job.

I like how they call that one guy, "a dark horse" sounds like March Madness or something

But I think Paul T is very underrated and is the major reason the NFL is where it is today.

Sweet!

I can hear her now: "I thought the CBA was an historical document. No one could have predicted that that players would want more money. Those helmets they use in the CFL can only be used as weapons, and do not provide any protection."

No... definitely not a joke...she had said that a few years back but she also said it this year at the Super Bowl when she was interviewed.

She said she would not seek to replace Tagliabue the other day. I'd be amazed if the owners would ever pick someone outside the NFL fraternity, much less a woman. I just don't think some of those older guys would ever let that happen.

I heard on the radio somewhere last week that Bill Clinton was a candidate.

Well Condi says "NO"......

Rice reiterates she won't succeed Tagliabue
‘I’ve got lots to do as secretary of state,’ official says on ‘Meet the Press’

• Will Condi Rice consider heading NFL?
March 26: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice discusses her interest in being NFL commissioner with Tim Russert of NBC's "Meet the Press."

Updated: 3:14 p.m. ET March 26, 2006
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, a big football fan, has “lots to do” and won’t seek the job of NFL commmissioner after Paul Tagliabue retires, she said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“I still think the best job in America may be NFL commissioner,” Rice said on the show. “It’s a little too soon for me. I’ve got lots to do as secretary of state. I think if my ship came in, it’s going to have to leave the port without me.”

When pressed by NBC's Tim Russert, Rice insisted she was "not interested."

Rice, an avid follower of the Cleveland Browns and pro football in general, has frequently said she aspires to run the league one day.

In the days since Tagliabue announced he would retire in July, Rice’s aides have said she was not interested.
