Bucs interested in Ramsey
I did a search and no one has written about this...I hope...
Bucs in hunt for Ramsey (written by John Clayton)
posted: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Stalled in trade talks with the Jets over quarterback Patrick Ramsey, the Redskins have given Ramsey permission to visit the Bucs. Ramsey lost two teams interested in him Tuesday when the Lions signed Jon Kitna and the Dolphins traded for Daunte Culpepper. The Bucs are looking to replace Brian Griese and are considering Ramsey if the trade price is right. The Redskins are asking for a fourth-round pick. The Jets offered a seventh. With most of their moves done in free agency, the Redskins have invested most of their time trying to find a team interested in giving them value for Ramsey.

if the jets indeed offered a 7th round pick for ramsey, they should be expelled from the NFL, and snyder should have all of their houses burned to the ground. the magnitude of absurdity and insult is beyond comprehension. like they could possibly find a QB prospect anywhere close to patrick in the 7th round. not that he's the 2nd coming of joe montana, but they are clearly delusional.

I swear I heard something on Foxsports yesterday about Marvin Lewis being interested in Ramsey, but Ramsey turning down the initial offer to go talk to them. Anybody heard that?

I agree that's an absolute insult.. but I guess if you think about it, it's not really an insult if no one else has offered more than that... even if he's only being considered a backup QB, I can't believe there's so many good backup QBs in the league that Ramsey isn't worth a 3rd or 4th... If I were a team like the Rams with a talented offense and a history of QBs getting banged up, I'd jump on using a mid round pick for that kind of insurance...

I would not be surprised if these are the same people who thought Gibbs was not worth anything too! There are some very stupid talent evaluators out there - thank God!
I agree with dcd (& many others) - Ramsey is a whole lot better than a lot of the starters presently playing.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Ramsey stays if he's not picked up.
The only reason we got Collins is:
1 He can help Campbell
2 He has worked with Saunders
3 Ramsey was thought to be gone
4 We need 3 QBs.
Gibbs obviously thinks he is a very good QB and Ramsey should/will be here if we do not get something of value for him.
If Gibbs truly believes that Campbell is ready then I would keep Ramsey and Collins.
I think that Brunell is the starter and Campbell and Ramsey are the 2 and 3 and Collins is insurance in case Ramsey gets an "opportunity"!
New York just got played!!!
Somtimes it's a lucky 7 and somtimes it's craps!!

I wonder what we will do if no sufficent offers come in. I mean arent we going to have to release him one way or another?
As Skinsjock says, Ramsey stays if no one makes a respectable offer. The Redskins own his contract for the 2006 season. There's no reason to give -- I mean literally give -- him to a team like the Jets.
Unfortunately A QB has to go and the odd man out is Ramsey. We have Brunell, Campbell, Collins, Ramsey and EL thats 5 QB's. I will guarantee you Ramsey goes. they'll find a team who will take him. He has a decent chance to start in Tampa because he'll battle with Simms and Ratey, Griese is gone.
DON'T SING IT! BRING IT!

Sounds right. Ramsey does not want to be a back up. He can do that with the Skins. Cinncy is Palmer's team.

But a 6th is fine with the skins FO. looks like they just wanted him off the roster ASAP.

Do you think he will be a back up or start?
Do you think Pennington can come back from his injury?
Are you guys going to draft Furguson now?
I answered this in the other thread. Even if patrick ramsey sits on the bench and it our back up QB...we got him for very cheap. What is the percentage of 6th rd picks that even make the roster? IMHO....this was a low risk, high reward trade for the jets.
If ramsey flops...he cost next to nothing. If he pans out and becomes the gunslinger QB he was at tulane,It's a heist.
The skins didn't get the shaft here by any means. They were gonna cut the guy and got something for him. Good move by the skins Fo,but they could have got more dealing him before you signed Collins.

This I agree with. We could've squeezed more out of the Jets before we signed Collins. Not sure why we waited so long considering we knew (regardless of who we picked up as our #3) that Ramsey would not be a Redskin on opening day 2006.

The only explanation that I have for this unbalanced trade goes back to Joe Gibbs himself and the way he conducts himself with players.
Joe Gibbs does not keep players who have indicated that they would rather play elsewhere. He has never kept a player who has expressed a desire to leave and not play for him.
I am a fan of Patrick Ramsey. I feel that he would have had a chance next season under Joe Gibbs. I feel Joe would have helped him develop better than anybody else. But I understand Patrick's reasoning and his attempt to look for (hopefully brighter) opportunities elsewhere.
But I also feel that Patrick made a mistake. The Jets is not the team and New York is not the place for him to move on to. I wish him well but an expansion team and an unforgiving town does not make for a truly good outlook.
So, now the Jets have a true "Jetskin".
