Why am I starting a thread on Al Saunders?

Because ALL of these discussions on receivers brought in and how they impact the offense, seem to be void of Saunders' name.

Striking when you consider that he's our new offensive co-ordinator. Will we see the same sets as last year, or will our new offensive co-ordinator actually implement some of his own plays as well?

Will that require different receiver sets? Does that create different needs?

Probably.

... just thought that it was perhaps worth mentioning.

i mentioned this earlier, we will see a diferent offense han last year. We are signing these guys to play in our new system and to thrive.

I'm glad you just brought that up. Gary Horton, of the generally Anti-Skins ESPN, made some pretty cool comments. He sees us working predominantly out of 3 WR sets which totally spreads out defenses. Just think about lining up a nickle or dime against a runner like Portis!?! We're moving into the next level, folks.

Gibbs, while using the "posse" in the mid-80's, used the 3 WR sets to do exactly what Horton was saying: Spread out the defense, run the ball, and confuse them on passing downs. Absolutely phenomenal!

good point. i think Al Saunders is definitely going to change a lot of how the offense is going to look. i think we'll have more of a 3 or 4 reciever set which would open up a BIG hole for CP. im thinking we're going to look a lot like how the Rams used to be with Holt, Bruce, and Faulk...we're going to bring the "Greatest Show on Turf" to DC

Will we run into an issue where any one player feels left out? How often will we run out of a 3WR set to satisfy the thirsts of the players?

Also, Saunders had a lot of ways that he would use Dante Hall in his offense. I think he can do this even better with Randle El because he's more durable and can line up at WR on every play. It should be very exciting to watch!

Id definately like to see how well our new WR's run after the catch. That was one thing we lacked for a while. I also wonder about their blocking skills, more specifically with Lloyd.

I don't know how Saunders has used them in the past, but I think we will see some low risk high reward plays, like screen plays.

I am not thrilled with the ARE signing, but as long as he's ours... immagine him playing out of the slot, taking a step back and taking a screen throw...

ey, Moss, ARE, Portis are all excellent targets for screen passes. They are almost automatic completions and any of those guys can make a screen into a 10+ yard gain.

That makes the safeties cheat up, we toss it deep to Moss or Lloyd... They sit back we slap them with Portis, or another screen, or a dump off to Cool

ey or Fauria...

Yeah, we are going to have a pretty sick offense next season... I'd just like to get Williams some defensive players. Archuleta is nice, but getting a consistent pass rush would be nice also. (Crossing fingers for Abreham and or Carter.)

Randle El is an excellent blocker as is Moss. Lloyd could use some work.

good point CLL but that's why these guys get paid what they do... to help comfort hurt feelings.

with who we have brought in to go with al saunders offense it looks scary.
like CLL said how will you keep them all happy at the sametime.

WR are naturally angry people to begin with.

They always want the ball and hate running patterns, getting open and then NOT getting the pass.

They're usually left unsatisfied, so I think this is a legit concern.

That said, if guys know their role, and don't get jealous, then it will work. If Lloyd is the #3 thinks he should be #2 or ARE is doing the same thing, it could be a problem.

Hopefully Coach Gibbs can make this work, that's why HE makes the big bucks.

ey, Brunell, Samuels, Jansen, etc., etc.), but innovation. They were just too obvious last season, with all those runs out of two-TE sets, etc. I'm hoping Al Saunders brings the element of surprise to the offense, because the talent level is only getting better. Next season is going to be a real fireworks show!!

but when I read the quote above, the only thing I could think of was a bunch of football players running around in the woods with a camera crew filming them like one of those nature shows.

Saunders never had a #1 WR in KC, he had a bunch of #2's and a studd TE. Now he has an offense loaded with talented WR's and TE's. Lets see what he does with it.

I heard Vinny on Sirius this morning. He said that Randle El sat down with Saunders, who explained the offence to him. When the meeting was over, Randle El wanted to be a Redskin.

I don't think ARE wanted to be a Redskin too bad if we had to give him about 10 million more dollars on his contract and 3.5 million more in his bonus...
