True. We could walk into next season with the same defense and would make it into the superbowl. We lost that game to the chickens because the offense was too banged up. Brunell was hurt, 2 linemen were down, Thrash, and Patten were done too.

My personal opinion is that if you don't know the difference between a tight end and an H-back, or the relative roles that they play in Gibbs' offense, you're not even remotely qualified to comment on the tight end situation. Period.

Hit the Football 101 forum, learn something about the H-back position, and come back when you can make a contribution worthy of the space it takes up.

IMO, Fauria's a nice addition... little long in the tooth, but a much better option than Royal had shown himself to be.

to me. You seem to not care that I was quoting, and responding to, another poster. If you wanted to qoute me, you would have posted my RESPONSE to the above statement...

Why? Didn't he get his way with 2 top ten draft picks in the last two drafts?

Gregg Williams is fine with this, I guarantee it. I'm sure he was getting a little tired of the kind of pressure our offense has placed on our defense. Now, perhaps, the O can do more of it's share. This is actually very good for the defense.

You know... the best way to play defense is to keep the offense on the field.

I like Fauria as a TE, but even his scouting report says he is a "sub package tight end." He's not a starter, he comes in in two TE sets.

I would prefer someone who can actually lay down a block...

i was delighted with the fauria signing.

hes got plenty of experience and from what i saw of the patrots games last season was both a consistent blocker and pass catcher.

knowing hes a more viable threat across the middle robert royal should certainly open things up for cooley next year for his first trip the hawaii.

Is Fauria a real recieving threat? I know he's going to be better than Royal, but the guys stats are nothing too impressive.
Don;t get me wrong, I like the signing, but I don't expect him to open up the middle like some of ya'll seem to think. I believe with the recent WR additions we'll see far less of the TE on passing downs and use him mainly as a blocker.

I disagree with Hog Heaven. I think Gibbs will always utilize his h-back and tight-end. If it ain't broke don't fix it. However i really don't know what kinna control/changes Al Saunders will have over the offense. I do think he had a player named Tony Gonzalez in Kansas City. I think they used him a little over there.

does saunders use an h-back in his system? i haven't seen that many chiefs games but from what i remember it didn't seem like the h-back was used very often. it seemed like rb's and te's made most of the receptions.

Fauria is not quite the same as Gonzalez. Gibbs is a master at using the talent he has to its maximum potential. So since we now have lots of good WRs, and are still not particuarly strong at WR, I am expecting many 3 WR sets (AKA no TE) on passing downs.
