Marine Story
A United States Marine, having completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, was attending some college courses between assignments. One of the courses had a professor who was an avowed atheist and a member of the ACLU.
One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "God, if you are real then I want you to
knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes."
The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am God. I'm still waiting."
It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor and cold-cocked him, knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold.
The Marine went back to his seat and sat there silently. The other students were shocked and
stunned and sat there looking on in silence.
The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, "What the hell is the matter with you? Why did you do
that?"
The Marine calmly replied, "God was too busy today protecting America's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid and act like an ass, so He sent me."

The Marines that I have come into contact with while I have been in the Army would never use the term "Soldier" to describe all members of the military. Since most Marines look down on the other branches of military service as inferior. More then likely he would have used the phase Marine like, "God was too busy today protecting America's Marines"
Also, it got me wondering, what does the ACLU have to do with an atheist professor getting assaulted by a Jarhead? Did the Marine get any jail time for it?
This story has a lot of holes, that has be wondering about its validity.

Actually he would have used the phrase "Soldier" when stating who is being "protected". Ask any Jarhead and they'll swear they protect their own.

I doubt that story was true, but if it is I hope that Marine went to jail.

As a joke, I can see the humor, (though to me the ignorance of the fictional Marine is what's "funny") but it reminded me of a story.
A teacher of mine in 7th Grade led a summer trip down to Boston and on to Philly to see the sights of the American Revolution and the Constitutional Convention. While there were in Philidelphia this teacher was with a studemt viewing the Liberty Bell and the teacher urged the pupil to touch the Bell.
Seeing an armed guard, the student was afraid and refused, so the teacher went up to the man.
"Hey, Johnny over here wants to touch the Liberty Bell, but he's scared and thinks you're here to stop people from doing that."
The guard replied:
"Sir, I am here, to protect with my life, his right to touch it."

But one who is a Soldier would be serving in the Army. Marine’s serve in the Marine Corps. By protecting his own he would be protecting Marines.
Go ahead and call a Marine a Soldier and see what happens.

As former Army Recon and currently a Naval Air Traffic Controller...I say without flaming and much pride. Before the Marine Corp allows you to pump your head too full keep this in mind...as a Marine you will always be Department of the Navy.
Working in two highly specialized rates I have learned that each Branch is heavily dependent on each other.
Back on the topic train...very funny story.
