What's the deal with people's enfatuation with Ramsey?

Its the situation:
Brunell, deteriorating
Campbell, unproven
Ramsey, 2 years under spurrier, 4-3 in Gibbs first 6-10 season, and a quarter and a half in 2005. Who knows what he's capable of if he giving a legitimate chance.

I dont care where he goes, I only care about what we get for him. 2nd round pick is what I want.

That would only happen if a bidding war broke out or if we kept him and a QB went down in training camp. I expect we'll get a 3rd or 4th for him.

Agreed. I see his price being somewhere in the round 3-5 range. I think Joe has already made a gentleman's agreement with him that he will be allowed to leave by whatever route. I have no idea where he'll end up, but I wish him well.

The better question is what's the infatuation with Campbell. I hear urban legends of him in practice. Even though he played on an undefeated team his last year of college, with all the television and SportsCenter coverage that comes with it, and still the most definitive evidence is 3rd-hand rumors.

As for Ramsey, I know he has an arm, has some poise, is very tough and can take a hit, and although very inconsistent, can throw a pretty nice ball at times.

If we get rid of him, and Brunell gets hurt (very likely) and Campbell is a bust (very likely for ALL drafted QBs), the franchise throws away not just next season, but maybe the next two or three.

Ramsey is an insurance policy that can throw the ball, and even if not very good, probably can win a bunch of games given the appropriate offensive schemes and playing calling.

Is it worth a couple million to keep an insurance policy especially in a league desperate for QBs with any potential?

I see Ramsey going to the Jets because we always seem to do more than our share of business with them.We always seem to get the best end of the deal with them, as in Coles for Moss. Coles would never give up any kind of money.

The problem for Gibbs is trying to help Ramsey but at the same time not getting enough in return OR putting the QB position at a bit of a risk with not a lot of QBs that Gibbs and Saunders might be comfortable with. There are QBs out there but we already have a pretty good one in Ramsey.

I agree with Chris - If we cannot get a 2 or a high 3 (which a lot of fans doubt) then we keep him for now. This is not just another position or player, this is a very good part of our QB deal and he is here, without him we are just adding to the needs.

I see Gibbs trying to help Ramsey but I would be surprised if it is for a second day pick unless he has someone in mind.

As far as questions about Campbell are concerned - Gibbs seems to be high enough on this kid and I place way more respect for his feelings about this guy as a QB than anyone here or anyone who thinks they know anything about QBs. My concern has nothing to do with Campbell - we need 3 QBs.

If in fact Ramsey is traded to the Jets for the aforementioned draft picks I think it's the right thing to do. I think Ramsey will start at some point during this upcoming season and will have an OK year. Hopefully that means we'll get that conditional pick. Ramsey would be gone after this season anyway and we wouldn't get anything. And remember last year with Gardner? We thought we gave him away. He showed nothing at Carolina. I'll go with Gibbs' decision on this one.

Initial reports had Ramsey, who was given permission by the Redskins to reach out to other teams and seek a trade, also visiting Detroit and Miami, but the sources said there are no plans for any other visits at the moment, further indicating that he's close to consummating a deal with the Jets.

Ramsey, 27, has been underwhelming in his NFL career, twice losing his starting job in Washington and compiling a 10-14 record as a starter. He's completed 480 of 861 passes for 5,649 yards with 34 TDs, 29 INTs and a 75.0 rating.



When asked about Ramsey, one highly placed NFC GM told The Post he didn't think Ramsey would be a good fit in New York.

"I hope he doesn't go there," the GM said. "He's a great kid, but he wants to please so much that when he doesn't it really bothers him. He doesn't have the temperament to play there. You've got to be thick-skinned to play in New York. He'll be eaten [alive] up there."

In other news, a source out of Atlanta indicated that the Falcons' interest in Jets' DE John Abraham has waned a bit because of his perceived asking price of some $18 million guaranteed.

The source said the Falcons, after doing a lot of research on Abraham, are not concerned with his supposed "character issues" and more concerned about the money.

The Falcons have the 15th overall pick in the draft and the source said there's "no way" Atlanta will trade that pick for Abraham.

Exactly my thoughts. A first round pick for a fifth? We are just dumping him (and his cap space too). So, are we going to find a good QB to replace him in the -fifth- round?

This deal about a conditional pick "as high as" third in 2007 means nothing. So, if the Jets get to the playoffs, we get a third pick? Dream on.

The Jets also have all kinds of ways to minimise Patrick's contribution as a backup to owe us NOTHING in 2007.

We are just letting him walk away. If we could have gotten a 3rd round pick ...

Let's wait to confirm the facts. Perhaps we are jumping the gun. But I agree that it does not look good at all based on these rumours going around.

Guys it's what the market will bare...Just because we spent a high pick on him doesn't mean we get one for him. I can live with the 5th round pick if we also get the conditional pick...Think about it...If he does well we get a high paick next year if not no harm no foul!
