Superstar In The Making

Post by gregory smith »

I just heard Louis Riddick's Redskin.com interview and while discussing team needs and strengths he said "at quarterback we have a superstar in the making" As fans we haven't seen much of Campbell, so I for one was really encouraged by that comment. He must be impressive in practices. It would just be awesome if we actually had a franchise quality quarterback. How long has it been?

Our last franchise QB was Joey T. and that can be questioned.

Franchise quality quarterback - Trent Green. Of course, beloved Casserly had more faith in Shuler and Frerrotte back then. Thanks again, Chuck.

Actually, Norv drafted Shuler, Casserly left that up to him and Shuler was gone from the Redskins in 1996 and football after 1997. In Jan of 1998 "Chuck" had Trent signed, but Snyder blocked the deal! So Casserly traded for Brad Johnson, whom Synder ran out of town. Actually, this team would have done better last year with Johnson, Green, or even Frerotte.

diamond in the rough

Post by Redskins Maniac »

i think Campbell is a superstar in the making and right now sitting as a diamond in the rough and here's why...Last year when the Redskins drafted him, Coach Gibbs said that he was too good to pass up and obviously Gibbs and his staff know how and where to find talent (i.e Sean Taylor, trade for Moss and Portis, Chris Cooley etc etc etc dating back to John Riggins and the Hogs). For Gibbs to say Campbell was too good to pass up, that tells me that Gibbs knows that Campbell has the tools, talent, intelligence and ability to be a superstar...running with that and throwing in Al Saunders who developed Warner and Trent Green to be Super Bowl calibure QB's, I'd say they do have a gem in Campbell and are doing the right thing with him in his development in learning how to be an NFL QB by not throwing him to the wolves and instead learn from the veteran experience in Brunell and whatever Ramsey was able to teach him--and let's put all our cards on the table that Ramsey knows how an offense will not work and how to take a physical pounding from disguised blitzes (i.e. Fun n Gun) to a offense that will work in Gibbs' offense and I'll bet the bank Ramsey was able to teach Campbell at least a thing or two...In my eyes, if or when Brunell goes down (lets face it, he's not getting any younger and the length of a long season i think it really started taking its toll on Mark last year as the season went on) then Campbell will be ready and able to step in and step up and show the superstar glare and why Gibbs and Co. drafted him to be the next franchise QB.

I hope and I think Cambell will be a great QB but there have been so many QB bust, on our team and other teams. It is a very difficult position to dominate becasue there are so many things going on at the same time. But I have hopes, I'm sure we'll all see his talent on the field this comming year.

Well of coarse they are going to say our future qb is going to be great. Thats what they hope for, and what we as fans also hope for and want to hear.

In this case though, I not only hope, but I really do think campbell will do well, but I think it might be a little early to say "superstar" though. Gibbs really wanted him and is taking all the right steps for him to be succesful, and that combined with how I have seen him play (pre-season) is enough for me to think that he does have a bright future.

I agree that it is early to proclaim him a superstar. That's my point, he must be showing something special in practice for Riddick to make that comment.

And I'm sure he had coaching advice for Kurt Warner in his early NFL years (relatively speaking of course). Wasn't he the Wide Receiver's Coach?

I don't think it is a stretch to say Campbell can have Roethlisberger type numbers in the win/loss column with our D and decent running game. In most games we would not be asking him to do too much.

Didn't they say that about Shuler?

This strikes me like an agent saying the player he represents is just fantastic and deserves millions.

I want his observation to be true ... we'll just have to wait and see.

I guess well never truly know about Campbell until he gets some live action. But one thing I will hang my hat about that Kid (besides Gibbs and Co. loving him) after the Senior Bowl last year Jon Gruden was gushing like crazy about him(Words like "special" etc were used) .To me thats another pretty strong endorsment.....Boy I cant wait to see what hes about

What do you think the odds are that we'll see Campbell this fall?

Its great that he got last year to learn. Can't wait to see what he's got!

Campbell is going to be great if last preseason/training camp is any indication.

Last year he showed us an impressive array of tools.

This year he'll have to impress us with his head.

Jason should know the system well by now. He should know the counts/audibles/packages/routes, etc, etc. Where Jason will have trouble is with the pressure. How well will he be able to perform under pressure?

I think this one year will benefit him greatly. Being hurried and not knowing where to go with the ball is a horrible thing. I think that since he knows what should be done and where he needs to be looking will help slow the game down for him tremendously.

Now that Patrick is really going away, we will bring another QB. It will be interesting to see how this new competition plays out.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
