Antonio Pierce wants Arrington in NY
(from aol fantasy website)
THE NEWS
Giants middle linebacker Antonio Pierce is aiming to bring an old teammate to the Big Apple. The former Redskin is lobbying for the team to sign LaVar Arrington. The three-time Pro Bowler became a free agent late Sunday night, and he told a radio station that he wants to stay in the NFC East but would prefer not to play for the Cowboys, the Newark Star-Ledger reported.
Our View
Arrington might also draw some interest from the Eagles if their linebacker, Jeremiah Trotter, also played with the Redskins. The Giants need to wait and see how the salary cap situation plays out before they could target Arrington, though.
I love it that Arrington said he didn't want to play for the Cowboys....he's still a redskin at heart...lol

Personally, as much as Lavar said he wouldn't like to play in Dallas, I have a strong feeling that he'll end up playing in Dallas... money talks. After that, I could see him going to the Giants.
The opinion of 10,000 men is of no value if none of them know anything about the subject.

IMO, that was moreso a fluke. Didn't he hit his knee or something?

I agree, he's not exhibiting a great deal of animosity right now but by the regular season he'll have convinced himself the Skins mistreated him in 100 different ways.
exactly! He was a great REDSKIN in my mind, but this is what typically happens in these situations. Then we'd have to face him twice a year...

I find it interesting that lots of people on this board have spent the last two days talking about how oeverrated and overpaid Lavar was and how the Skins are better off without him. Yet the players that have actually played with him, Trotter and Pierce, have both come out publically saying they want Lavar on their teams. I think it says a lot about what type of player/teammate he is that his former teammates want to play with him again.
That was a huge mistake letting him go. I am totally utterly disgusted with the fact that we cut him. I am going into shut down mode as a Redskins fan for about a month or two. At least until the draft dang this is a bummer. Only a successfull draft will help me get over this I am so Pissed off!!!!!!!!!!!!

You shouldn't be so shook up... Everyone said how bad it was gonna be without Pierce too... seems to me, that we got through it okay.
Anyway, we didn't cut him, he bought his free agency - we tried to restucture his deal - but unlike ever other player that did restructure, he didn't want his restructuring tied to the CBA.

I don't think LaVar is overrated any bit. He is a BEAST! the guy can lay one on anyone any given sunday. We'll miss his presence on the field but that doesn't mean we can't win without him. Coach Joe definitely shows that his goal is to get to the Super Bowl and not to have a BIG NAME TEAM. I think unfortunately he will end up in the NFC East either Eagles or Giants or 'Boys and in that order. Eagles have the mula, Giants probably can if they make room, and i heard Parcells wouldn't mind having him in there.
Nothing's more exciting than a life of a Redskin fan. haha yuuup.

I see LaVar headed out west
I know LaVar said he wants to stay in the NFC East to be able to walk into FedEx field once a year, but I honestly won't be suprised at all to see Arrington headed to San Diego to be reunited with Marty and his Linebackers coach (who was here with marty when arrington came into the league) Arrington and Marty have a great relationship and will be able to roam the field like he wants...here's why i don't see him staying in the East (Please keep note that everything anyone says right now is speculating b/c of the CBA agreement and not having any clue what the salary cap will be set at)
1. Philly--salary cap troubles especially still needing to deal with the Terrell Owens saga..plus i heard a report that Trotter and Arrington weren't the best of friends (of course you can't believe what any newspaper jack writes or TV or radio "analyst" says)..in addition to Johnson's disciplined, orchestrated, assignment-driven defense (remember Arrington made his name by freelancing before he butted heads with Marvin Lewis and Greg Williams playing assignments)
2. Dallas--After ending Aikman's career and us taking much pride in that (man that's still an awesome hit to watch over and over again
) i don't think arrington will have welcome banners hanging in dallas (of course money talks and Dallas is in pretty decent cap shape) but arrington is a redskin at heart and after what he said about feeling iffy wearing a cowboy uniform--i'll believe him
3. Giants--if arrington stays in the East, then it will be with NY because they aren't too far over the cap (and may end up already being under the cap if the CBA raises it) and Pierce lobbying to sign him but money talks and Giants have a big payroll with Eli, Tiki, Plastico, Shockey, etc
I don't know San Diego's cap situation as it stands right now but i think (especially when the deal Brees or Rivers or whatever they do with the QB situation) the chargers are in pretty decent shape salary cap wise...also don't be suprised if you hear shawn merriman lobbying to sign L.A. being that merriman has said Arrington was an icon to him
Now i really might get you guys thinking by saying it won't suprise me a bit (but very highly unlikely) to see LaVar go home to Pittsburgh to play (of course Pittsburgh is in pretty bad salary cap shape themselves) however, he'd be at home, close to home and i'd love to see him beat up on the ravens twice a year and i think Lavar would love that 3-4 scheme

Hate to tell you, but Philly's got a ton of cap space, and they're going to have even more when they simply CUT T.O. next week. They have enough space to get him if they really want him. I don't think he ends up there though.

I dont care where he goes, I have been saying all year (06 season that is) that he is not the same player he used to be. I've never seen a linebacker look so slow as he did during the Seattle playoff game, and he doesn't seem as strong as he used to be (ex. his inability to tackle jeremy shockey).
So if he plays in the east, we will get to see him back-peddal aginst a coming block from mike sellers twice a year.
