The cap will go up.
The league will keep delaying the start of FA until the players get ancy and pressure the NFLPA to sign the extension. Or at least that's what I'd do if I was in the leagues position.
The players are the weak link here.
I, for one, would liked to have seen Lavar become the player I thought he could be for Williams.
I guess it was the smarter move to just move on now. It's not like the high cap number was going away any time soon, and the team may not be able to handle restructures the same way anymore.

Last time we lost him, we had Marshall, Pierce, and Washington. Now, we have Mc Cune, Holdman, and Clemons vying for the third spot and no resourses to pick up anybody of real merit from the outside.
Its definately a loss on our end to an extent. To a greater good we got rid of someone who didn't want to be with the team. If he wanted to be here he would have restructured. If he had an agent worth a darn he would have never made himself look stupid and would feel better about restructuring. We got some CAP space back and the team will continue to exist. This is not the end of the world. People thought Jesus was on his way back when Champ walked out there door....who here has really noticed that he left? People thought Smoot was going to be the end of hte Skins and look how he FLOPPED in Minny and how we rebounded with a better corner. Yes, Carlos is better than Smoot imo. Look how the MLB position was supposed to be an issue, we now have had two "nobodys" excel in the position 2 years in a row, the most recent used to be a safety.
This would be an issue if Spurrier was here. Its not so much of an issue now. We have REAL coaches now. We have coaches who can extract talent from an Ade Jimoh! We have coaches who have a plan and a vision. We never had that before.
We're in good hands. It'll be taken care of. We'll get beat on by nonbelieving redskin fans, we'll get beat on by ESPN, Fat Lenny and SI just to have another year of success and prove them wrong again.
This is why Im not worried.

It's like this fellas, We all knew that Lavarrs cap number was not going to stay. With all the issues Lavarr had with the Dan and his contract it was just not going to work. Everyone was looking at Patrick Ramsey for the cap space. Hey i will take a team player like Patrick anyday over a very vocal Lavarr. I think Lavarr had a Redskin heart when on the field but off he was a distraction. IMHO he put himself above the team. Or had the feeling he was the team.
Lavarr overran more plays than he ever made, and the only real play he made was on Aikman. Perhaps if he had made the play on Alstott it would have turned out different. The thing is he didn't and now he is gone. Chow amigo. Enjoyed your passion and enthusiasm but not your me attitude.
Hey, news flash it's a team sport!!!

Top 5 L.A thoughts for me...
1) I'm going to really miss the guy... but not so much on the field as off of it. Very interesting character. While most of you will now choose to believe anything you read in the media about him, I'll always remember him as the big kid, with the bigger heart, that the media chose as their favorite goat more times than not.
2) I'm stunned that some of you will think that the on-field loss will be significant when he hasn't played much, or consistently well, for the last two seasons anyway.
3) I still really hope he doesn't land in the NFC East
4) You guys are slagging a guy about money when he just took a pay cut to pursue what he thinks his best... you're whining that he didn't re-structure a contract to free up money when in reality... he freed up more doing this than he could have ever done with a re-structure. He also could have done NOTHING... made the Redskins flinch... and probably made more money... but he didn't... he did this because it was HONORABLE and was best for BOTH HIM AND THE TEAM. And yet the peanut gallery still bitches and complains. Sad really.
5) I wish him, his wife and his new child the absolute best.
You all seem to think this makes the player selfish, but I'm wondering at what point does the onus not fall somewhat on ownership to accept accountability for an inability to 'afford' a contract that they gave out. You see... this is just what happens to contracts when you're constantly robbing from Peter to give to Paul... sometimes you back yourselves into a corner... and Lavar is just the end recipient in this instance.
Good luck L.A.

I too wish Lavar the best. The past couple years has been rough for him and the team at times. At this point, with the current CBA situation and the need to keep our TEAM intact, some higher paid individuals must be sacrificed. Unfortunately, that's the reality of the situation. Good luck Lavar...
I agree with BH, especially on the point about the on-field loss. We pay the guy way too much money to be a part time/situational player. Our coaches will be able to correct this and it will help our team finanically.
I'll miss the guy as a fan but something had to give.

You could call him selfish because he didn't want to redo his contract like the other players on the team. The real reason would be because
A. You don't like LA
or
b. You don't understand LA.
Here's my take...
He didn't want to redo his contract for a team that didn't play him the way he felt he should be played. He didn't see any change coming down the road on the teams part, why should he change his contract. In the end something was said that made him feel unwanted/unneeded at Redskin Park.
We'll never know what happen during thise talks. I do know I think he meant what he said when he said he wanted to be here. For a player to buy his way out of a contract means - something just isn't right. For a player to buy his way out of his contract when he couldn't be cut means - something was really wrong.
The bottom line is, without a CBA - Lavar had the Redskins over a barrel and another $6.5M was soon to be added to that barrel. He didn't have to do what he did. His cap number would have only went up without him doing it. He has to be aware there is no way he'll make the same money somewhere else, with the CBA looking the way it does - and he still GAVE MONEY BACK (premadonnas don't do that)
Lavar haters should take all of this into consideration when forming there opinion of this recent non-Redskin.

Both Boss Hig and 1niksider have given excellent reasons why it was really good ofLaVar to restructure like he did in order to be released. However, it does benefit him greatly as well. He will be a free agent at the start of free agency. He will be able to get the big money deal (provided a new CBA is agreed upon) that will more than make up for this restrucuturing. Even if he was released after his $6.5 million bonus on July 17th, he would never find a big mone deal so close to training camp. Rosters are set and moves have been made. This deal was best for both sides. Otherwise, I believe no agreement would have been reached.
I loved watching LaVar and will miss his big heart and true, pure enthusiasm to play football. I will never forget his interview after the Tampa playoff game when he was talking about his interception. He is replaceable on the field, he is not replaceable in the hearts of the fans.
Chris Luva Luva is right. We replaced Bailey, Smoot, Pierece, and Coles. There is no need to worry with Gibbs, Williams and Saunders at the helm.

We lost Champ and gained Portis. Smoot was replaced by Springs. Coles was replaced by Moss. Pierce is the only guy that was replaced with a player from within the organization. In each of those situations we got equal or greater talent for the player that we lost. I don't see how that is going to happen in this case.

It took an eye for talent to make those trades.
It took someone to recognize their talent.
It'll be these same people looking for Lavars replacement. Im not worried.

I will miss Arrington but I also agree with others in that this situation (the player and the contract) had to be dealt with and it is really for the best. We had a money issue that was helped in the best way for us. Arrington can now go make a deal elsewhere. We had a player that was not on the field for us a lot last year and we still played well as a team defensively.
This will pass and I also wish him the best - he's actually good for the NFL and maybe he can be a force somewhere else. The team and Arrington will all be better off in the long run.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I won't be one to claim that he sucked now that he's leaving town--but think about it. He had a few good seasons with us, put in some heart to the game, and is gone now. Kind of an interesting character while he was here, too much drama, but fun to watch when he was at his best. Not one of the greatest Redskins of all time, but not bad either.
Thanks for the memories, Lavar, and good luck wherever you land (unless it's with the Giants, Cowboys, or Eagles. . .)
I agree with a lot of this, however, it seems to me that the Redskins team last year played like a team possessed when Lavar was in the lineup (at the end of the year). They played much better "with" Lavar then when he was riding the bench. This loss could hurt.

I threw my two Lavar jerseys in the trash this morning. I'm not the type of person to wear the jersey of a player who is no longer a Redskin, except, of course, John Riggins.

Thanks Lavar!
You were a great guy to root for and I'm gonna miss you.
It was also very classy to buy his way out of the contract, he still helped us out even during his departure. I guess it was time to move on and he did it in a classy manner.
However, I have no doubt he is going to be signed by the Giants or the Eagles. I think this is going to hurt us. I have visions of him ending Brunell's career in my head. Ugh, not good. Face it, he's still a good player and it's always hard to let someone like that go.

I heard that the Eagles were asking about him at the combine, but he seems like a poor fit for them, given that:
(a) he needs a system where he has a bit of freedom to read and disrupt, and
(b) he and Jeramiah Trotter apparently didn't get along.
I think the best fit for him may be Seattle. He performed well under Ray Rhodes read and react system, and while Marty and LaVar worked well together, he and Shawne Merriman kind of play the same role, so it may not be a good fit.
