Are there certain shows or movies that pull you in ??

Post by thaiphoon »

I did a search for any thread that asked the same question (some are similar but none ask the question I'll ask below).

I was talking with my wife the other night about how when certain movies come on TV as I'm surfing the channels I have to sit down and watch them no matter what I was going to do previously and no matter what point these movies are at in the storyline. Does anyone do this ?? Would anyone care to venture forth and share the movies they fall victim to ?

I'll go first...

King Arthur (Clive OIwen, Keira Knightley)
Anything with Vince Vaughn (recently its been Dodgeball)
Ocean's Eleven
Pirates of the Caribbean
Joy Luck Club
The Replacements
Anything with Hugh Grant
I, Robot
Independence Day

There are more but those come to mind right away. It isn't always just one type of movie so it tends to be a widely diverse set.

BTW- if someone has already done this thread please let me know. I'm too lazy to do the search and narrow it down from the 100 or so odd pages that are here.

King Arthur? I could not wait for that movie to end. It was almost as bad as Troy.

I get pulled in by the Simpsons, Rocky, Rambo, Road to Perdition, Cinderella Man, Brave Heart, but most of all, the Washington Redskins.

Yeah not proud of the K.A. addiction. But for some reason the character Bors is my favorite.

Yeah, historical epics must be a little dry if you have no understanding of history...

Because, it's like baseball.

The only people who think baseball is dull and boring are the ones who don't understand what's going on.

I hardly see how king arthur and a few of his buds taking on an entire anrmy with nothing but bows is historically acurate.

King Arthur, historical epic? No doubt, Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves was also a historical epic? Would somebody please let me know if King Arthur appears in any meaningful and respected history book? Next you'll be saying that Return of the King was a historical epic!

What about those of us who don't actually care what's going on? I know exactly what's going on when the moon rises in the sky, but I still wouldn't want to watch it for three hours.

Actually, Braveheart had more historical basis than King Arthur, so I don't think your point is valid.

Steptoe and Son? Sheer genius! Shame that we don't have anybody who can write shows like that anymore over here. Steptoe and Son, Dad's Army, and Porridge - now that's what I call a good night's TV!

I can not stand watching movies on regular TV. There are far too many long commercial interruptions. A great movie and its audience should not be treated with so much disrespect.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
