A Possible Temporary Solution

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

A Possible Temporary Solution

Post by The Hogster »

If it becomes evident that a new Collective Bargaining agreement will not be reached. Why not simply increase the salary cap figure, which right now is projected to be 94.9 million dollars, to a number commensurate with what it would be with an extension.

This allows free agency to occur as seamlessly as possible, while also allowing the two sides to negotiate for a deal that would kick in for the 2007 instead of playing it uncapped.

Thoughts?
SPIT HAPPENS!!

Sounds good, but is something like this possible?

The owners will meet in New York, seeking to find a way toward an agreement with the players union that could add $10 million to $15 million to a 2006 salary cap that currently is projected at about $95 million. Without it, some teams could be forced into wholesale cuts to get beneath the cap by midnight. Free agency will start March 3.

Obviously you're not the only one thinking this way.

Basically, some of the players association and some of the owners are not that worried about what is going to happen without a CBA.

As far as the Redskins are concerned I think we are very lucky to have a great coaching staff. I also think that Snyder is going to support the whole organisation and will not be the "free spender" that the players may hope for. This is Gibbs' team and until he leaves we will do business his way with Snyder's full support. I do not think Gibbs will run his NFL "team" any less successfully (from both results and economic aspects) than he does at NASCAR.

It will be very interesting to not have the CBA but this franchise will be successful because of who we have as an owner and our whole organisation. The players will be good because of that NOT because they are "stars". Some of these prima donnas are in for a big wake-up call if this does not get done.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
