Post by spudstr04 »

I hope no one has brought this up, but if so, just add it to the forum it's under, but, I heard on Fox Sports Radio on XM that the Patrick Ramsey for John Abraham is close to getting done.....I think that this is awesome....how can we afford him though??

The same way most teams do -- decent salary, big bonus, lots of incentives built in. It's not impossible and would be totally awesome!
"The biggest misrepresentation there is that [it's because] Dan's got a lot of money. That's not it," Gibbs said. "We've got a rule. Believe me, if we had no rules, Dan would spend some money."

Are you serious?!?! If we get him our off-season should be pretty much done. Focus on WR in the draft and pick up a nickel back and a utility OLineman, and its Super Bowl here we come.

Um, that is insane... How could that be possible?

We'd be ripping the Jets a new one, surely we would have to offer a lot more in terms of players and this would probably mean we have to cut Arrington (providing it would save us money, there are still issues with the CBA), Hall, Bowen, etc.

I would LOVE for this to happen, don't get me wrong, but geez, it's an awful lot to expect.

I'd guess that the deal is contingent upon some stuff happening with the CBA. But I don't think this is an insane notion.

The Jets franchised Abraham for the sole purpose of trading him, and I think there's a good chance that they'll cut Pennington who has been unwilling to restructure his contract. Fiedler is a free agent. So leaves the Jets with just Brooks.

The Skins may have to throw in a draft pick but would be getting the best pass rusher available through free agency in return.

Google News turns up a few sources with similar information. Nothing new, but it does appear that there could be something to the rumor. This from the The Star-Ledger:

Unhappy Abraham wants trade

According to someone with knowledge of the situation, several teams have expressed interest in trading for Abraham, including San Diego, Washington, Cleveland and Houston. Rumors have persisted that the Jets could get Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers or Redskins quarterback Patrick Ramsey in a trade involving Abraham.

Like Skinsfan55, I would be shocked if this were a straight-up Ramsey for Abraham deal.

The Redskins problem at DE is no where near as acute as the Jets problem at QB. If the Skins do get Abraham then I believe Lavar will be traded.

That's if you sign someone who has been tendered the franchise offer. Not trade. Kind of like what happened with us and Sean Gilbert; we franchised him, the Panthers (?) signed him, and gave up 2 firsts for him. We never traded him.

I really don't see a straight up trade like this happening. It sounds a little far fetched to me. Stranger things have happened though, especially between the Jets and us, lol

I really don't want to trade Ramsey, but if we do it would be incredible to get Abraham for him. What could be better! That's equivalent to a first round pick and ought to put a new respect for the Ram in the minds of his detractors.

As much as I would love to see it happen, a straight up trade for Ramsey just doesn't feel right. If it is in the works, I would suspect that there is more involved than just Ramsey.

I agree with Redskins1974, a straight up deal for Abraham for Ramsey won't happen. And even if it does, that means we will be in an even bigger $$$ crisis which isn't good.

And by the way, just because some 2 random guys said this trade might happen, pretty much means it won't because people say a lot of stuff on the radio.

I don't think it is a stretch to think this could be a straight up trade.

Abraham does not want to be a Jet and other teams know that the Jets won't keep him.(I don't think they can really afford to keep him with a franchise tag but I'm not sure.)
So they are trying to get something for him rather then just letting him become a free-agent.
Kinda like Gardner's situation.

Abraham= Overrated... sure, i still wouldn't mind if Abraham was on our team, he's no doubt better than what we have but wayy too costly to afford. Not worth it.

hmm... It says the Jets are thinking about releasing Kevin Mawae...

Instead of trading Ramsey for Abraham (which is ridiculous, we could try and pull Ramsey for Mawae.

Mawae is a beast in the running game, and then we could move Rabach back to Guard (where he is familliar) to fill the void at Guard...

Mawae is coming off a major injury...I'd want some insurance there. I know they have to pass a physical, but still...I'd want picks before I took a chance on an OL like that.

Yeah Ramsey for Abrham is part of the deal, were giving up more than just Ramsey. My guess is some of the Redskins picks next year.

beggars can't be choosers. as someone else said, the jets are in DESPERATE need of QB help, FAR worse than our need for a DE. additionally, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY they can afford to pay john abraham that franchise offer. he is already off the team. they are just hoping to get something out of it instead of just cutting him. ramsey would be a great value for them- something for nothing.

The only way Abe signs that Tag offer is as part of a sign & trade. Not only can they not afford him he won't sign with them after being tagged twice for no amount of coin.

Abe will sign the offer to put pressure on the jets to get him out of town asap.

I doubt the jets would swap abe for Ramsey. You would have to sweeten the pot.

Good to see the other fans point of view.

We will just have to wait to see what happens.
