Championship Odds

Post by skinzrule »

Current odds per ESPN has us at 20:1 behind the Cowboys, Eagles, and Giants to win SB 41. Is this an issue of respect, or do we really have that many questions heading into next year? I will be putting some $$ on the skins regardless, but maybe I am just an optimisic homer  8)

It's a lack of respect. I looked up the odds on some gambling websites (of course I myself would never do such a thing, it is illegal! ) and on each one I saw our odds were third best in the NFC just behind Carolina and Seattle and well above those other three crappy teams. That ESPN thing is clearly just the OPINIONS of a very few number of biased people. BTW, do you have a link?

There are only 2 other NFC teams with better odds, Panthers and Seahawks and both of those two teams are good but they do not scare me, like some of the better AFC teams do! So, I say our chance to atleast make the Superbowl is pretty dam good.

Keep this on the hush though....I would love to 'surprise' the world, but to me this is no surprise...we've been close for a long time.

You are right Hogster, not Redskins fans but any other NFL team fan would be suprised if we even make it to the Superbowl. And in reality the "so called experts" are giving us a good chance to go all the way, we are not a long shot infact we are one of the favorites.

Did you write those odds?

Remember:

skinzrule wrote:I am pissed. We worked hard to get to the playoffs and we wasted a golden opportunity. Next year won't be so easy with the return a healthy eagles and development of a well balanced giants team. We probably won't even be division favorites. We some big offseason moves and a Ramsey-Brunell brain-body transplant.

Welcome to the board.

Gotta love it!! I'd always rather be the underdog. It sucked when we were odds on favorites after some splashy offseason purchases and then stunk up the place. I'd much rather it be more like last year (with a better ending of course)

What are you guys talking about, 18:1 is very respectful, we're the 3rd best odds out of the NFC. Their are other good teams with a lot higher odds like the Bucs, Jags, Falcons they are not great but they are all good playoff teams that are 30:1 odds, thats getting no respect. And if you ask me the Rams 50:1 is pretty much giving them no shot and I think with a healthy QB again they are a better team then a 50:1 odd. 18:1 doesn't mean we are the 18th best team in the league, it means we are a odds on favorite to represent the NFC in the Superbowl. The few teams that have better odds to go all they way, should be ahead of us. we're near the top of the food chain.

Did you read the -first- post? Redskins -behind- Philthy, Pukes and G-Srings?

All I know we swept two of those team and we split with the third last season.

None of that really matters going into a new season. Just like setting odds is a massive waste of time before mid-May. My 2 cents

Yes, I did and your right but that guy posted the wrong odds. I posted all the correct odds I got from a Vegas site. I'm sure you saw that we are acctually favored better then those teams.

It would be more fitting if the sports entertainment bobbleheads were picking the Redskins to go 4-12 again.

Just remember SB 17. The sports entermainment media insisted that the AFC chamionship game -- Miami / Jets in the Mud Bowl -- was the real SB. After beating Dallas, the Redskins were supposed to be nothing more than "dessert" for the AFC winner.

We have two huge questions on offense:
Can we find a WR who can pull in 60 plus catches to take the pressure off Moss. If or when Brunell gets hurt or wears out, will Campbell be ready (assuming Ramsey leaves)? Without answers to the above, the money guys have got to rate us low.

Patten has shown that he'll draw some attention from Moss but he failed to contribute anything more than that.

We can get by without an upgrade at the WR position but DE is a priority.

Honestly those odds are not bad. I'd consider it a 9% interest rate on an investment if I placed my bet today.

And yes, hating Dallas isn't too bad these days, is it? :)

10 to 1? They think that (at least, right now), Dallas is the 3rd most likely NFC team to win it all. They'll have to make the playoffs first to even have a chance at this. . .

Chris, I don't recall Patten getting more attention than Taylor or Thrash or anyone else. Do you recall his being double teamed? How often? If he's not being double teamed and not contributing by catching passes, how is he better than any other half way competent journeyman?
I disagree with you, respectively. I rather have Gardner back than continue with Patten, Taylor, Thrash.
Also, Daniels had a fine season last year. Big surprise, I know, but maybe he'll do it again.

While I don't recall Patten doing anything memerable this past season, it is worth noting that around the time he went down with injury is around the time we began having problems with our passing game. While people were doubling Moss before Patton's injury, they were getting the ball out to him more consistantly and was taking pressure off of Moss.

Once Thrach was in the mix, there wasn't much left to the imagination. I love James Thrash for his work ethic, smarts and guts, but the boy just isn't a phyisically gifted reciever. If it's fourth and ten, he's the guy you trust to run an eleven yard route but not the guy you trust to be open.

A better second WR is not unwarrented and having Patten as a slot and Thrash as a fourth and leading special teams, that would be nice to have. A good second reciever? Someone like Jerry Porter who doesn't hog the attention but can still make plays quietly (except when Collins was throwing the ball as he did last year).
