Culpepper

Post by kkryan »

I have a question...but before I do I want to say that I think the only thing the skins need to challege for the NFC barring injuries is a good qb.

If the cap permitted...would you trade Arrington and a second for Culpepper?? I think I might do this trade if his knee has healed.

Nah, I really dont want Culpepper (even though I think he is a pretty good QB). Reasons I wont do this trade:

1. Why did we draft Campbell? Cullpepper is not someone who is in the later stages of his career, he still has many years left and if we trade for him, we will pretty much assure that Campbell will never start for the skins
2. I still want to keep Arrington. I think he will be a force on D next year and do not want to part ways with someone who used to be the face of the franchise.
3. We already have 3 qbs brunell, ramsey and campbell....
4. We have too many other pressing needs at the moment such as getting a #2 wr, a pass rushing de, and some depth on the both lines

Think about how much we'd have to pay to have Mark Brunnel, Patrick Ramsey, Jason Campbell, and Culpepper on the squad.

Not sure that such a trade would ever really make much sense. We've got much more pressing needs at hand, in my opinion.

We won't have to pay Ramsey because Gibbs told him he would be traded if he wants. Gibbs is a man of his word and I don't see any reason why Ramsey would want to stay. We've treated him pretty bad. Anyways, I'd say no to the trade as well. Brunell did pretty good this season and Gibbs has won superbowls with far worse QBs (Rypien). We need help at WR and maybe a TE... then our offense will be on track and consistant.

I wouldn't won't him even if he wasn't injured.

Did you see how he played last season?

But maybe he only plays well when he is throwing to a Moss. So it might work.

He hasn't proved he's a good QB without Moss. Ray Charles could QB for Moss.

What's with all this talk about making trades and using our scarce draft picks on a position we traded/drafted for already in Campbell? Especially when we have far more pressing needs at OL, DE, CB, maybe safety? (hope not) The list goes on. It's a little silly to me.

Interestingly enough, we could have had Culpepper. The Vikings drafted Culpepper with the draft choice we sent them for Brad Johnson... Things come full circle.

I think Culpepper still has to prove he can win without Randy Moss. He is also much more in the Patrick Ramsey mode--look down the field and rely on the strength of your arm--than Brunell or Brad Johnson, that looks to minimize mistakes and take what the defense gives you.

I think Culpepper might be a good fit in St. Louis, Oakland or even Arizona...

Arizone just signed Kurt Warner to a big deal, so I don't see it there.

Kerry Collins couldn't...

But actually, this is really intriguing. I still Cullpepper is a great QB and would excell in our offense.

However, this won't happen due to the most obvious reason of all, CAP SPACE

Very good thought! I'd love to have him...I know some may say he's no good without Randy, but I think he can do the job with our o-line, CP and Moss helping him out. Oh and it doesnt hurt that we got Al Saunders in the mix. But I would really be bothered even more about he whole Campbell pick up. so i'd be 50/50.

we cant waste money on pep after investing our hopes in campbell....the trade wouldn't make any sense.

Its fun to think about but i think our qb situation is in good shape.

We have a lot more pressing needs, de,wr,cb......

I'd rather win a superbowl with Brunell or Campbell. If we hadnt picked up Campbell in last years draft then it would be a whole nother story. BUT, we have him as our future and i think he'll be pretty dang good.

If Culpepper were to be signed, PRamsey would be long gone and MBrunell might want to look for his packing boxes. We'd make Culpepper the starter and Campbell the backup.
In conclusion, I REALLY doubt Culpepper will be a Redskin! 8)

Ripien was not a great gb, I agree, but he was incredibly good that one SB year. He was deadly deep to a degree he never was before and never after. Joe Kapp also had a year like that. It happens sometimes. A lesser talent gets hot.
Ripien's a bad example of your point; someone like Difler or McMann would be a better example, or Big Ben.

I agree completely.

It's Brunell who's inadvertantly making QB convictions so difficult. If healthy and rested, I think he's still one of the finest QB's in the game and terribly underrated. He's actually a fantastic athlete, even now, and probaby smarter than anyone.
On the other hand, he's far worse than useless when injured or tired. His ball loses zip, he loses any hope of accuracy and starts throwing the ball out of bounds at the least excuse. He become so afraid of screwing up he starts shedding I.Q. points like so much dandruff.
I've never seen a guy play hurt worse than Brunell and hope to never seen him do it again.
I'm not willing to lose a game without a real fight because he's banged up. Maybe I'd play him only when healthy, or keep him as a backup ready to pull out a win for the gipper.
I don't know what I'd do with him.
If I were GM and had to keep just two of our GB's, I'd have to look real hard at Brunell's probability of making it healthy to the playoffs and maybe consider just keeping Ramsey and Campbell.

we could've had Brad Johnson... oh that's right, we did...
we could've had Trent Green... oh that's right, we did...

seriously though, I was just starting to like both those guys when we got rid of them... I think we missed out on winning a lot more ball games by letting those guys go...

If he comes here, he'll be playing with Moss so I don't understand your point. :D

Seriously, I'll pass on Culpepper. I'd rather take my lumps with Campbell and groom him for the future.

Just remember how many int's he's thrown. Even if we had the money to pay for this guy and was in the market for a qb, he wouldn't work for Gibbs. Not to mentions he went on the Good Ship Lollypop Cruise with Smooty.

While I don't want the Redskins to pick up Culpepper, I think his struggles without Moss have been a bit exaggerated. In his ten career games without Moss starting at wide reciever, Culpepper has an 84.47 quarterback rating (204/311, 2329, 13/13). That's still less than Mark Brunell's 2005 rating, but not nearly as bad as some people might think.

Look this is a what if deal. So looking at it from the stand point of all things in the world would have to perfect for this to happen. You do not and I repeat DO NOT pass up the oppurtunity to get a guy who has the stats this guy has (remember in the perfect world he is healthy). Way to talented and young. its obvious we are about 3 to four tds a year away from the super bowl. Thats it! This guy gives us that.
