What's your Top-10 Free Agent Wishlist?

Post by VASkin27 »

Who do you think are the top-10 free agents that we SHOULD go after? Keep in mind the SALARY CAP; in other words you can't sign Edgerrin James, Shawn Alexander, and Charles Woodson. Let's all play GM for a while, here's mine:

1.) David Givens - WR New England - Not the most explosive receiver, but he makes big plays when he needs to and should come a lot cheaper than a big name #1 guy. Can battle for the 2 spot against former teammate Patten.

2.) Chad Scott - CB New England - Last year showed how important versatile DB's are. Chad Scott is a reliable nickel back who is capable of starting at CB or playing safety, and has lots of big game experience

3.) Kyle Vanden Bosch - DE Tennessee - This guy is a sack machine who produced 12.5 last year. He's young and fiery, and would bring a great attitude to Williams' in your face defense.

4.) Tutan Reyes - OG Carolina - Reliable OG who can play center if needed. I'm ok with taking any o-linemen from Carolina.

5.) Tom Rouen - P Seattle - Anyone who watched any games last year knows we need a punter in the worst way.

6.) Rock Cartwright - RB Washington - We need to resign this guy. He knows the system, is a versatile back, and should be cheap.

7.) Matt Shobel - TE Cincy - Let Royal go; bring in a guy with better hands to take some pressure off Cooley on the inside.

8.) Adam Archuleta - S STL - No reason; I'd just love to see this guy and Taylor cracking skulls in the same backfield.

9.) Koren Robinson - WR Minn - Give him a chance here; he's turning his life around and had a big year last year.

10.) Any kicker - Any team - I'm sick of John Hall

I'm going to go with the assumption this is a realistic wish list...
1- Randle El- fills the hole at WR and KR. Plus he can allow Gibbs and Saunders to think up some really creative plays
2- Vanden Bosch- He's only really had one good year, but it was last year and he's young. He should be fairly cheap and has room to grow as a player
3- Jerry Azumah- He would be a great 3rd CB behind Springs and Roger and could even press for the #2 spot. More importantly he can return kicks (if we get Randel El, that would be less important and someone cheaper like Townsend, Scott or Taylor would replace him on the list)
4- Tony Richardson- He's a stud who is familiar with the offense (played for KC). Getting him would allow us to put Cooley at TE and get Royal off the field.
5- Tim Hasselbeck-R amsey will be gone so a cheap but good 3rd stringer would be nice.
6- Tom Nutten- We need a back up interior lineman since Brown is retired and Raymer will likely be a cap casulty. The pickings are slim, but this guy should come cheap and has a good deal of starting experience. The draft may better fill this need though.
7- Ola Kimrin- The writting is on the wall... Hall's leg is shot by multiple injuries. I would love to see these 2 battle it out in camp. If Hall still has it (doubt it) lets keep him.
8- David Boston- A possession WR who has shown amazing talent early in his career. He's disappeared in Miami the last few years. I believe he had injury problems. I say we give him a shot. If he's healthy we get a monster to catch the ball across the middle and if not, well thats why Randel El was 1st on the list
9- Chris Hovan- He will likely cost more than he is worth for our team because this isn't a huge need for us. That is why he is down on the list, but Hovan is a very very good DT who can give pressure up the middle. Having him next to Griffin would really give O-lines some match up difficulties.
10- I don't think we have a Hall of Fame headed Head Coach for the waterboys. Maybe we could get one for $1.7 million a year.

1) Koren Robinson WR (We need a guy who can play any receiver position and also handle return duties. Koren has matured and is explosive as shown by making the Pro-Bowl at Kick Returner, He is good friends with Shawn Springs and I think he would fit right in for the right price (Randel El may be too expensive)

2) Kyle Vanden Bosch DE (Greg Williams will not go after a pricey sack specialist who just lines up wide and rushes the passer. This guy is a big and physical D-End with the quickness and power to stuff the run and get to the QB)

3) Matt Schobel TE (Big and Nasty TE who is athletic, can block and catch the ball)

4) Juran Bolden CB (We need a little more depth at CB, Bolden is a big and physical corner like we like and he was born in Washington DC. With Rogers, Springs, and Bolden as our top CB's we can move Walt Harris to a lesser role where he plays best. Harris is good for a few snaps but gets exposed when he is asked to do more)

5) Todd Collins QB (We will need a 3rd Quarterback and we need one that is experienced, knows our system, and is used to being on the Bench. Collins is Al Saunders old clipboard holder and he would be perfect to not only be our 3rd guy, but to teach Campbell the offense..getting him would be like getting QB coach...2 roles in one)

We can fill our other needs for depth with the draft. With a 2nd round pick we should be able to find a great DE, WR, TE or OG to come in and contribute.

I think this list is realistic. We can get down to 12-18 million under the cap and sign these players. Vanden Bosch would probably be the most expensive player on the list, with Koren and Bolden coming in second. Schobel should land a decent deal if he is not re-signed by the Bengals. Collins could happen without much trouble.

There's a clause in KoRo's contract that the Vikes can match any offer given to him...

He might be very hard to get...

I like Antonio Bryant for WR!

Bryant is a trouble maker. He's a complainer when he doesn't get the ball...we don't need that in our locker room. He's good but he's got a bad attitude. Dude had to have security remove him from practice after he threw a temper tantrum for not getting the ball more.

I do agree with you though. Physically, if we could mix his talent with James Thrash's mentality, he would be good.

Just think if we could get Robinson and Vanden Bosch. We could address two areas of need with Pro-Bowl players.

WR/KR & DE. Imagine our team with a dominant pass rusher, a dominant KR and another explosive threat opposite Santana Moss?

Throw in a player from the draft and Al Saunders' offense and you have a Superbowl caliber team.

look, I think that it is TOO EARLY to tell because whatever we do has to keep in mund the DRAFT. As 1niksdeR will tell you, the draft is wrapped around free agncy (FA). Some needs wll be adrressed in FA -prior- to the draft, others -during- the draft, and yet others in FA -after- the draft. It is impossible to address ALL needs in FA.

My personal priorities are:

WR, DE, OG, CB, Punter andf Kicker (in this order).

But I sure do not have the smarts nor the experience to work with both side by side. That's why I am just a fan and not in the front office. I would make an awful bad GM.

Abraham might get the franchise tag...but if he doesn't then he will probably get a ton of cash in free agency.

I'd like Abraham but I wonder if he's a Williams type of guy. Williams will expect him to drop in coverage on certain plays...can he do that? Does Williams want a guy who might not play within the system?

I think it'll be interesting to see if we go after Nate Clements or Eric Moulds - both from Buffalo. If Williams liked them at Buffalo, you'd assume we'd go for them.

Can you imagine Clements and Springs as our starters with Rogers as our 3rd CB in 2006? It's only a matter of time before Springs hangs it up or the Skins think he's overpaid (Cap hits: 06=$5.5, 07=$6.5, 08=$6.7 & 09=$7.7). Do we go for our other future starting CB now? Harris is due to cost us $2.7 mil on the cap in 2006. We might get Clements for a similar cap hit in 2006. He would get a nice bonus but his yearly salaries for a few years would be minimal. Just a thought.
