First Off-season Move: Albright Re-signs

Post by ANT7088 »

The Redskins have re-signed long snapper Ethan Albright, the team announced on Wednesday. Albright, a 12-year veteran who has played in Washington the last five years, has been a staple on the Redskins' special teams units.

In a job that gets little notice unless something goes awry, Albright has been consistent and reliable during his tenure in Washington. The 6-5, 265-pounder was flawless as the Redskins' long snapper last season, playing in all 16 regular-season games, plus both playoff games.

Albright also recorded four special teams tackles last season and has 53 tackles for his career.

It was the tenth consecutive season that Albright had played in all 16 NFL regular-season games.

Albright, easily identified around Redskins Park due to his bright red hair, began his NFL career in 1994 as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins. He joined the Buffalo Bills in 1996 and served as the team's long snapper for five seasons before signing with Washington in 2001.

The Redskins also completed the signing of defensive end Sean Guthrie, a 6-4, 269-pounder who was with the Indianapolis Colts last preseason. He was released by the Colts on Sept. 3.

Prior to his stint with the Colts, Guthrie was with the New York Giants from 2002-04 but did not see any game action. He played his collegiate ball at Boston College.

Excellent move! Albright is a long snapping machine. Kudos to the staff for not taking the position for granted.

The other guy is probably just training camp fodder...

I'm sure they got Albright to sign for the veteran league min which is approx $800K...however, he only costs us something like $450K on the cap.

This guy is valuable. Way worth the money.

By the way I read the article it appears it was for a one-year deal. Great re-signing. I just wish we could have locked him up to a long-term deal. I'm glad he's loyal to the Skins.

Guthrie was signed to the Skins practice squad during the last weeks of the season (I don't think it was even announced on Redskins.com) and his practice squad contract ran out a few weeks ago so therefore we re-signed him.

Again, hate to speak ill of the dead...but Dan Turk is a shining example of how the long snapper can make or break a game for you.
Albright goes unnoticed unless he screws up...which is never.
Great move.
