While I normally love to RUB this fact in this board, this is NOT a great idea (in a newspaper of national and international importance).
We know that whether it was done by the Danny or not, the MEDIA is going to believe that it was done by him or someone on his behalf.
Few people have the kind of money to throw around in an UNNECESSARY ad like this one.
I am not in favour of this approach , which only antagonises the rest of the media. The kind, gentle and classy approach by Joe Gibbs (leading by example and with facts) works better.

Sorry RIC but I don't see it that way. Those pieces of crap made fun of us at every chance they had. All Danny did was get them back. If they don't like it then maybe they should stop making fun of us every chance they get!

What could be more classy than pointing out the opinions that were published about the Redskins in a LOCAL paper that has worldwide appeal, then pointing out the opinion of the majority of the people that buy this same paper

So people should not be held accountable for their biased opinions? The press doesn't like Snyder, never have, this isn't going to change that fact. And, from a purely financial perspective, it makes a good deal of sense to thank your loyal customers.

Look guys, I know we feel very strongly about being put down unfairly by the media -FOR YEARS-.
The deal is done. Nothing I say can change that. All I will add is that THIS IS NOT A CLASSY WAY of doing it. This is not Joe Gibbs' way.
I still remember the fact that Joe Gibbs HIMSELF asked immediately to have the sound system playing "Moms do not your children grow up cowboys" shut down at the end of the game against the Pukes in Washington. I agree with that. One should have CLASS in victory and in defeat.
How stupid do these "sports expert writers" look now? GEEEESSH! Did you need to read it in an add to be informed about it? Did you need to see the rubbing on the paper?
Many of you may not be familiar with the way the media works -inside- close doors. You may not want to know it. These people know that they WERE wrong already. There are some -inside- that have REMINDED them about it. In their own limited "damage control" way, they had already written pieces backpedaling on their initial opinions.
They know they bet against Joe and they lost.
What you can not do is to enter a BIG FIGHT and expect to come out of it clean without a punch on our faces. Even if we win the fight, the other side is going to get back at us in the future.
I am not a person that wishes to pick up a fight for his own gratification because it is COUNTER-PRODUCTIVE!
Politicians, actors, musicians, and sports people KNOW that it is not a great idea to EMBARRASS the media. It is A LOT smarter to hold your fire and use the opportunity to have a truce.
The alternative is to make things WORSE for us fans and our players and coaches. Not smart, say what you might.
On the one hand, you will have erased from your smile the gratification given to you by this add by tomorrow.
The writers EMBARRASED by this add, on the other hand, will NEVER forget that this was done to them. And they will find out who was directly and indirectly responsible for the add.
Another disastrous public relations move. Then we complain why our players do not get voted to the HOF by the media.

If I were Sally Jenkins, I would be pissed at the Redskins organization, but I;d be more pissed that my own newspaper stabbed me in the back. They could have easily said 'No way. Quote someone else or the ad doesn't run.' But they didn't. Now THAT'S embarrassing.

You are right. The WP LOVES it even if it sacrifices one of its "lambs". Other individual journalists will not be as forgiving though ...DEHog wrote:RIC I hear what you saying...but the truth is the Post loves this for one reason...It sell papers!
If ANYBODY wanted to be REALLY smart (not right though)about this would have done it DIFFERENTLY. The media are a bunch of cannibals (among them). ALL you had to do was to "motivate" an obscure writer anywhere to write a piece in any newspaper or sports magazine about this very topic. And then you spin it and give it great notoriety elsewhere TV, radio, other printed media, etc. In that way, you can argue that it was somebody else that did it.
There is a GREAT older movie about this technique. In "The Sting" Paul Newman teaches a young Robert Redford to put a "sting" into somebody more powerful. In the key scene of the movie, Paul Newman's character says something like:
"Kid, the best sting is the one they never knew they got."
In this case, I would say:
"Kids, the best sting to the media is the one they do not know where it really came from."

They will. Mark my words: Sometime, somewhere, somehow, the Danny will be reminded of it.
This add is SUCH AN IMMATURE approach that whoever is responsible for it is saying: Yes, I read your articles. Yes, they are important to me that they hurt me.
Instead of keeping quiet, ignoring this garbage as garbage deserves to be IGNORED. You LOWER yourself at the level of your opponents when you pick up a fight with them.
PS: By the way, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT in my mind that this was done by somebody closely associated with the Redskins organization. I can tell you why if you want to know in another message.

True, whomever designed the ad could have simply mentioned the many writers who gave them no credit, rather than naming individual writers. That would have been a bit mroe tactful.
How is Sally Jenkins going to 'get us back'? By writing negative articles on the Redskins, blasting the players and front office alike? Oh, wait, she's already done that. I think the last thing the Redskins are afraid of is Sally Jenkins. If she had any courage, she'd write an article humbly stating that she was wrong, and she's sorry for writing such drivel. I doubt that will happen.

Hey RIC i respect your opinon, but completly disagree on this one. The media absoultly should be called out. They have been trashing Dan and the skins for years and mabye this will be a reminder to at least produce responsible journalism. Obviously when sally says the skins suck or whatever is opinon, but they need to know that the owner and the fans arnt going to just take it like we have been taking it for years! Im SICK of the media bashing us all the time, and while i agree that this type of article can/will prokove certain members of the media, who cares! they have been bad talking us and trying to stir up controvesy anytime they can anyway. what more can they do? also there are 2 reasons im not worried about it. First... this negative media has been combated by going straigt to the source. On redskins.com you can get all the news plus much more about the skins than in any local or national paper. How many teams can you see interviews with players, coaches, scouts, organization members, etc.. after practices, in the locker room, 60 sec. with the redskins, redskins tv, cartoons (larry Landover), information and the like? I think its awesome, and in time no one will care what the newspapers write. I honestly havnt read a post article in a LONG time, unless posted on this site. So screw them, i could care less what they have to say. Untill this year i have honestly believed the skins would find a way to lose games and be a joke franchise, in large part to all the negative press and all the hoople about being a soulless byproduct of dans wallet. true that in large part that was also due to actually losing and making bad decisions, but i feel the local media should be optimistic and suportive of the team and not perpetuate a losing culture. Not saying the have to be myopic, but some artices seem like they were writen by the Dallas Times, not the Washington Post. And lastly... The media will have no choice but to talk us up soon, becuase we will be and are becoming winners! They will rave about hiring saunder, and retaining williams and how dan has learned to be a smart and fiscal owner. And if we implode and win 5 games next year, The articles cant/wont be any worse than the ones ive endured for the last 5 plus years.

Thanks for the links. The article was okay, but not as satisfying as I would have liked. She seemed to just skim over her continued negativity at the end, and brush it away in a couple of sentences.

That IS the point, RIC. Sally Jenkins is not the public. The Washington Post is not the public. That part of the public who care about the Redskins see the rag and it's "writers" for what they are. Bitter. Frustrated. Closet Cowboys fans. Those parts of the public who would be put off by this article are, most likely... bitter. frustrated... (dare I say it?) Cowboys fans. In other words, this harms the relationship with the true Redskins fan base not in the least.
The ad does nothing to undermine public opinion (at least, not that public opinion that matters). It simply gives us another reason to laugh at good ole Sally! In other words... it is EFFECTIVE public relations strategy.
Do you think that anyone here will suddenly become the loyal purchaser of Ravens memorabilia because someone placed a full page "gotcha" in the Post? Ain't happenin, brother. This is a big "SO WHAT?"
