I hate to say this, but Green's statistical argument is on the same level as Monk's -- he's a compiler.
In 20 seasons -- 54 picks, 6 for TDs. No season with more than 5 picks. No season with 100 yards of INT returns.
And, for all the 'danger' he presented when he was back to return kicks, he never had a regular-season TD.

One would think that Darrell Green is the equiv to a shoe in, but hell the way these writers vote, no redskin is a shoe in. As far as im concerned they can blow up the room all those writers vote in if green doesn't get in first ballot!

I agree with you except for one thing. Green was friendly to the media and is on TV from time to time. All you have to do to get into the HOF is have a good carreer, be nice to the media, and spend some time on TV. It has nothing to do with how you actually played.

And one thing. I've said that one thing against Monk is that he doesn't have that one signature play that you see over and over on ESPN and NFL Films -- like Swann in SB X and Riggo in XVII.
But Green does. The punt return in the 1987 playoffs in Chicago where he leaped over one Bear, then ran into the end zone holding his ribs.

Monk will get it, I know he should allready be in but it will happen. Green will also get in, his numbers are great esp; for a 20 year player but still good enough and they base alot of it on character, he was a good guy with a great smile went to many probowls and was the fastest man in the league for years and years.

My favourite Darrell Green play is a punt return against the Bears in the playoffs.
The HOF voters that voted against Art Monk this year are crap.
I better go. See ya later guys.

The fact that he belongs in the HOF because of how he played the game (or, how long) is obviously not as important as to who you played for!

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

"I'm sure that we would all agree that the qualifications and standards for induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame differ somewhat than those for induction into the Football Hall of Fame. I was reading in this past Sunday's "Parade" magazine an article about David Vincent who also happens to be the official scorer for the Nats. In that article it mentioned that Home Run King Hank Aaron was well down the list in home run efficiency. His record of one home run every 16.3 times at bat was well behind the leader, Mark McGuire with one every 10.6 time at bat, and Babe Ruth with one every 11.8 time at bat. Seems like I also remember that he only played on one World Series Championship team during his career, The Milwaukee Braves in 1957, I believe. I may be wrong, but I also don't remember that he ever won the home run title in any single season either.
However, I'm sure that every one of us will agree that Hank Aaron certainly deserves to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame based on his character, his contributions to the game, and his longevity which allowed him to retire as the all-time leader in home runs, a record he still holds today.
I'm wondering if Dr. Z (Paul Zimmerman) and Peter King applied their same rationale and thinking regarding statistics, and their reasons why they don't think that Art Monk is deserving to be inducted into the Football Hall of Fame to Hank Aaron, they would probably also come up with the arguement that Hank Aaron doesn't deserve to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame either."
They may try to apply the same rationale to Darrell Green. Let's hope not.

not to mention darrell green was 5'9" but he played with more heart than anyone i've seen in a while. the guy is just a "true redskin" as joe calls them, and he was the face of the skins for a long time. there's a highway named after him!! and honestly, those stats that were shown earlier in the thraed should be more than enough to get him in , he played for 20 years, and not only played, but he played damn well. he's my username's inspiration, as well as my AIM screename, and he definitely deserves to be in the hall.
Sean, may you always rest in peace and look down on us with the same love that we look up to you.

Yes, Art Darrell and Russ deserve to get in, but in the end the HOF is nothing more than a sportswriters award. And we all know that sportswriters only get paid to tell people what they want to hear.
Art was a leader on teams that went to the Superbowl 4 times and won 3 times. End of story. Three Super Bowls rings or my bust in the Hall of Fame? That's a no brainer 100 times out of 100.
Art may or may not eventually get recognized for his accomplishments. Whether it happens or not, he's got the rings and we have the trophies, and that's what matters.
Yeah it's a slight, yeah it's unfair, blah blah blah, but in the end it's only a sportswriters award, and I am not going to lose sleep over it.
