In 2004, John Hall missed 8 games due to hamstring and groin injuries.

In 2005, he missed 5 games because of a quadriceps injury.

Good kicker or not, this guy is injured too much, in my opinion, to tie up a roster spot for him. I, for one, would like to see a replacement that will actually be consistent and will actually play the full year!

I say replace him. I watched 3 touchbacks in the AFC game yesterday...we haven't had one all year.

Well, Hall used to have awesome leg strength, however then he got hurt, and hurt, and hurt....

I mean I really like the guy because he is the toughest kicker in the league, but I think we might do better without him.

Too bad it isn't easy to find a good replacement. . .we can't just pull these guys off of the street.

I'd still like to get rid of Hall, though, as good as he was making tackles.

Umm, that was at Mile High and those kicks were made by a kicker who is well known to have regularly used steroids. In the game in Mexico City the kickers were regularly kicking their kickoffs through the uprights. Altitude makes a huge difference in kicking the ball, it isn't possible to compare a kicker's performance at Mile High to those that take place anywhere else in the NFL.

I think he will be here next year and that Tyer will ensure he is able to do the job. I agree that the last 2 years have not been good but I like this guy's ability and I think he has a good attitude. It is not easy to be a good kicker in the NFL and this guy is one of them.
I will say that Gibbs will not hesitate to get a kicker he can depend on if the "reports" this off season are not very good with regards to how he is getting himself in the sort of shape the team needs him to be.
It also would be nice to have our kickoffs result in better field position for our D than we have seen recently. I think the coverage has improved but the kicks have not been deep and high enough, IMO.

Ultimately I have faith in the decision that Gibbs et al will reach but this is a results oriented business and I just don't have enough confidence in his ability to stay healthy

I hope we can improve on him. His play has been in sharp decline over the last couple of years.

Bring competition! Let him earn his job.

His case of the shanks came at the wrong time, and a change of scenery might help him forget and put his career back on track. I say we help with his rehabilitation and replace him.

Like Rothlisberger said..."It ain't the altitude its the attitude." Whether the altitude has that much of an impact at Mile High is irrelevant, if that's the case we need to find somebody who can kick on the east coast.

Sure, but he wasn't talking about kicking. Altitude makes a HUGE difference in the kicking game! You can't say Hall sucks because kickers in Mile High can kick the ball into the endzone. That isn't a fair comparison.

Actually, Vanderjadt sounds intriguing.

The Colts probably hate him, and he probably hates the Colts...

I also think Joe Nedney is a very underated Kicker, he might be a good pickup.

To continue on this topic, only ten guys in the NFL had more than 10 touchbacks!!! Only 13 had more than five!!! The fact is there are only a handful of guys IN THE NFL who can get the ball into the endzone! It's not like we can just go out and sign someone off the street to kick the ball into the endzone on a regular basis. Few of the very elite players in the game can manage this feat.

It is incredibly silly to even argue about this because in the grand scheme of things it doesn't make a huge difference. Our kickoff coverage is very good and despite Rackers leading the league in TBs he also had the most kicks returned for TDs with three. I'd rather have special teams that can't get the ball in the endzone but can stop the other team than one that regularly gives up TDs.

Rackers lead the league with 23 TBs but four or five of those came in Mexico City and he played the rest of the season in very favorable weather conditions. Sauerbrun was fourth in the NFL with a large majority of his occuring in Mile High. When it comes to kicking, altitude makes a HUGE difference!!!

Some people have a man crush on some people. Hall is not getting it done. He doesn't suck in all phases, but combining the fact that his kickoffs are short (he kicked a couple OUT OF BOUNDS), he is constantly injured, and inconsistent on field goals.

Who cares that he's a good tackler. That wouldn't matter if he wasn't kicking off so darn short that he has to make tackles.

I'd like to see us get a new kicker, but if we didn't I wouldn't be to upset either. I have a feel Hall will turn things around in 2006. Having some one who can kick a few more touchbacks would be nice:)

I say if we can get somebody better than Hall then replace him. My choice would be either Vinateri or Longwell. Both are used to kicking outside and in bad weather.

Being from Packer Country, and having a strong hate for all of their current players (except Favre, who I have tons of respect for) I don't think I could start rooting for a kicker I've booed for the past few years
