In The Year 2009...........

Post by spudstr04 »

If Gibbs stays the full-five years, 2009 will be the year that either Al Saunders or Gregg Williams will step to the plate and be the next head coach. I know that Saunders got a clause in his contract that if he doesn't get the head coach job, that he will get something like $ 1 million in compensation. I just want to know who ya'll would rather have as our next head coach?

Saunders or Williams???

ME: I choose Williams! Defense wins Championships and we beat TB this year in the playoffs with our Defense and the D gave the Offense 3 chances to win versus the Seahawks....

Gibbs' contract is for 5 years. That doesn't mean he's leaving when it expires. Besides, both Saunders and Williams could be gone by then.

Trying to predict what could happen three years from now is pretty tough...

Oh it will definately be Williams. (I even think it says so in his contract)

Unless we put up like 45 points per game under Saunders, this is Greg's team, and I A OK with that

I don't know what Saunder's contract says, but Williams is supposed to get a 3 million $ bonus if he is not named the next head coach.

It's Williams, not Saunders, that has the "head coach" clause in it. And it's a 1 million dollar bonus if Williams is not named the head coach when Gibbs steps down (or up? :)) from the position.

 That would be awesome. I know Gibbs mentions a few times in a few different press conferances that he fully expects to fullfill his contract. But, for some reason he doesn't sound convincing. I have a feeling if he does win a SB before his contract is up he might retire. probably not but it is just a feeling. Williams will take over the team whenever that happens. And whenever he does retire, I don't think he will go back to Nascar fulltime, his son did a awesome job last year with Gibbs racing.

i think this is just more crazy ESPN speculation. wouldn't it be a violation of "The Rooney Rule" for such a clause to be in a contract? since it would imply they are already looking to give the job to a certain [white] coach. remember, they are required to interview at least one "minority" candidate.

Well im not going to judge anything yet( way 2 early) as far as interviewing a minority I say bull!!! no team should be made feel obligated to any skin color of a coach. Unless there’s an American Indian looking 4 a head coaching job :P..(i.e rippen) I love the fact that we have a bunch of head coach’s on our team ..but there specific to there strengths... ( i.e. d-fence, o-fence. special team’s-line ect.) why wouldn’t someone go for this...get paid like a head coach and work like a special team’s coach …… you tell me??????

In Saunders interview, he said he likes coaching offense. Maybe Williams and Saunders will be taking this team over together when the time is right.

Williams knows how hard it is to be a head coach, here they get paid head coaching money, but only have to coach one side of the ball. They are both in win/win situations, and hopefully they see that. Together they can bring us titles for years to come.

The clause says he get's the bonus if he is not named head coach. I'm sure when Gibbs retires the Skin's will interview coaches for the job. Williams would just be the leading candidate.

I thought there was an exception if you promote from within the team.

I'd like to see Williams take over.... but as far as Gibbs in concered, I'd like to see him retire as soon as he wins the SB. (next year) I want him to go out on top again! He is the best HC of all time!

I mentioned it also , I think he might retire early if he wins a SB before his contract is up.

I heard on Inside the NFL on HBO that Saunders had a clause too.

I think it could be interesting, considering williams is a rare breed right now considering how he has complete autonomy in controlling the defensive side of the ball, if saunders is still here by then, then by 2009 our head coaching position might just be no more than a title, i can see us having both coaches with complete autonomy on either side of the ball each making head coaching salaries.
