The I don't want Reggie Wayne Thread...

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

The I don't want Reggie Wayne Thread...

Post by air_hog »

Now after looking at the headline of this thread, most of you probably think I'm nuts, but here is the deal.

I have heard a lot of talk on the boards of how everyone can't wait to sign Reggie Wayne and stuff like that. Well everytime I see that I just laugh, and here's why.

Actually, I do want Reggie Wayne, if we could get him for free. But here is the deal, WE HAVE NO CAP SPACE (which is what BossHog has been trying to preach the last few years)! If we sign this guy, he will take up all the room in our cap figure and we will end up getting 1 Star, and nothing else, which means no quality depth on the O-Line, D-Line, Secondary... I mean, this offense is not run through stars, it is run through character players who get the job done. Yes Wayne is a great player, but we might be able to get a role player such as Joe Jurevicius or Keenan McCardell for a much cheaper price, and that will permit us to add much needed depth.

And another reason I'm pretty sure we won't get him is because every fan on every message board is saying the same thing, "I can't wait for us to sign Wayne!". And so is every GM in the league, including the Colts. And if the Colts don't resign him, it's because he wants to much $$$, and if the Colts can't pay him, then there is no way we can either.

Basically what I'm saying is, Reggie Wayne is going to want a FAT contract, and I'd rather spend the money on depth than on 1 star WR.

And by the way, if we are to sign a big name player this year, I would much rather spend the money on Steve Hutchinson instead.

I'm with you on the Reggie Wayne thing, but I don't want to see us sign Hutch either. We're already spending huge money on an offensive line that is earning more money than Liberace's candlemaker.

Depth, depth, and depth again!

I want Reggie Wayne, too, but I doubt we will get him, so I'm looking at other options.

Randle El
Jurevicus
McCants
McCardell
Gaffney

These are all other options I'd look at since it's doubtful we will get Wayne.

I agree, AH, he'll want a lot of money.

Nope. If he re-dedicates himself to practice and SHOWS the coaches that he cares to be on the field (practice field mainly), then he will be very servicable here.

If he shows effort and shows he WANTS to be here, unlike last year's camp, then I will be more than happy to have him back in the burgundy and gold.

McCants!? Am I wrong in remembering that he a couple times complained about playing time and other things in places public could see?

If I am right, I hope he never comes back. Not only did he never do anything greatly useful outside of 2003, but he is yet another guy who looks like he could do something, but has no production! Jacobs, Thrash, and Farris have talent, but no production!

I'm surprised you feel that way. You guys stock up on players from the U as if they possess the cure for cancer.

Maybe if you all had a few more U players, you wouldn't have been sitting on your asses at home, watching the Skins play in the playoffs.

I am a big Miami fan also, but I don't want Wayne on the skins either. Good WR but for what you have to pay him, no way. You can find another good #2 WR without having to kill your wallet.

"U" players are all over the league and they are impact players. In the last 20 years the "U" has produced the most impact, skilled position players I think and esp; the last 10 years. We'll take'em all.

Jimmy Johnson.

Walsh was Jimmy's lone mistake. Irvin is greater than any WR that's come out of the U since. Maryland was good while he served us, but went downhill when he went to Oakland.

Our three supposed "greatest" players didn't all come from the same school.

Not that there's anything wrong with being from the U. As long is it wasn't one of the whiny brats that came out of there in the last 5 years.

I say we talk Art Monk out of retirement.

Maybe Danny can throw good money at it now that he seems to have learned where to put his money.
