Ovechkin's Goal
Has anyone seen the goal Ovechkin scored a few days back? My brother saw it live, said it happened so fast, you couldn't tell what he did. When I lived in MD I loved the Caps and saw them all the time. I've since moved away from the DC/MD area and rarely see hockey anymore. This may be the best goal I've ever seen. Only a natural scorer can do this...Rod Langway doesn't get this done...check out Gretzky watching the replay on the big board.
The video is on the right side of this page:

Watch it all the way through, the last clip in slo mo is the best angle and speed to see what he does.
Hopefully, Ted L goes out and gets a few playmakers for this guy. Right now, they don't have much out there helping this young kid.

One of the many reasons I am glad to have him on my team.
That goal was unbelievable. I couldn't believe it when I saw it on SportsNite.
He's gonna be a star. Ovechkin is a beast.

Not only can the kid score, but he just levels dude every game. Most goal scorers are used to getting protected by other players and become sissies *coughcoughMarioLeMeow*.
I can't believe some poeple thought he was too soft.

That's because he WAS. Just watch the world junior final before last and I'm sure that you'll agree. He wasn't aggressive, he got easily riled, and his subsequent attitude about it spilled over on to the team.
I would imagine that a lot of people saw the same thing and he worked on it a lot... that and he has matured a little more.
I'm also the first one to admit how awesome and how complete a hockey player he is now... this year... when it matters. The kid's a superstar and he has it all. His goals are phenomenal but his aggresive play is even more impressive.
Too bad he's stuck playing for the Capitals. :-"

With all due respect, you could sell out Air Canada Center in Toronto to watch this kid practice... I watched the Caps play the Predators just over a week ago and there was about half an arena watching the phenom.

Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.
Boss, MCI (soon to be Verizon) Center is jam-packed tonight and Ovechkin scored a goal during the Caps shootout vs. the Blues. The kid is amazing.

You mean all it took was Ovechkin scoring the most amazing goal of the season to bring people out?

Lowest attendance in the league... bar none. Even with arguably the best player in hockey this season.
They've lost almost 5000 season ticket holders in the last 4 years... they're down to 7,500. I know Leonsis gutted the team, and fan confidence, but if the Caps don't turn things around atendance-wise... they'll be moving... and so will boy wonder.
So if you live in Washington... go see one of the best hockey players on the planet... while you still have a chance.

That's what I'm saying... go while you can. Not only will it not be a 'hockey town' soon, but there will be no hockey in town.
I saw that you could get tickets for $10... and pretty much any time.
It takes about 5 minutes total for the Leafs to sell out all 41 home games when their tickets go on sale at the beginning of the year.
Most of the arena are season ticket holders though... pretty much only the nose bleeds that aren't taken.

What can I say? It's a football town. And I doubt one goal convinced ALL of those people to show up although it did help boost team morale.

You can doubt it all you want brother... that's your prerogative... but if they were getting 16,000+ a game they wouldn't be bringing up the rear in attendance.
In reality they put just over 12,000 in the seats on average... so there were over 4,000 people more than usual.

Sorry Boss, Caps won't be moving anytime soon, IMO. Just like Jordan brought the crowds back to Chicago, so too will this kid in Washington. The Capitals always had decent attendance but slowly Pollin drove them away with his BS ownership. Uncle Ted is doing all the right things. Cutting payroll and developing young talent. Just as soon as they add on some help for Ovechkin... The crowds will return. They won't be moving anywhere.
May #21 never be worn again by another Redskin but may every Redskin play like they are wearing #21 on their backs.
Leonsis managed to get a lot of buzz around the team a few years ago, but then the team didn't deliever. Jagr was a bust. People stopped caring.
I don't really follow hockey myself, though I would go to a game if I had a chance (who wouldn't, right?). I do like seeing it in HD when I visit my parents though, because you can actually see what's going on.

Jagr was a complete bust... You can see some paralels between Snyder and Leonosis. Bothspent alot of money early on and it didnt work out but now both have slowed down and are being smart about things.
Boss would right if Ovechkin never landed in the Caps laps. They would have had to move. But they have a legitimate soon to be top 3 talent and that's all it will take for the Caps to attract old fans back and new fans.
