(CBS4) BOSTON Former Red Sox first baseman Kevin Millar has agreed to a one-year deal with the Baltimore Orioles.
The deal is contingent on Millar passing a physical. He's expected to play first base with the Orioles.
The 34-year-old will receive a $2.1 million "base salary" with easily attainable incentives that could get him to $3.8 million. Millar made $3.8 million last season with the Red Sox.
Millar hit .272 with 9 home runs and 50 RBI in 134 games last season. His best of his three seasons with Boston came in 2003 when he hit .276 with 25 home runs and 96 RBI.
Millar will perhaps be best known for his "relaxed personality", which earned him the utmost respect inside the Sox clubhouse.
The Red Sox had conversations after the season ended about bringing him back, but only in a "part time" role.
