Trade down or make pick

Post by Warmother »

Should the Skin's use the 5th pick in the draft or try and trade down for extra picks. I wanted Sean Taylor in the worst way but with only 2 picks in the draft I think We should trade down and get extra picks, maybe with NE? :feedback;

Definitely trade down... what it comes down to his filling holes, and adding depth with young talent. Two potentially great players are better than one.

I think it's the 21 and 32 overall picks, and that will give us two very nice players. We haven't had 2 good players taken in a draft since three years ago. We got Bailey and Jansen, then Arrington and Samuels, then Gardner and Smoot. We had a streak of getting 2 good players eveery year, and this would be a good time to start it.

keep the pick and take an impact player, either taylor or a dominant end...we've had some terrible luck with draft and i'd hate to pass up another future all-pro to take more guys that don't pan out

KEEP THE PICK IF TAYLOR IS AVAILABLE!!!! If Taylor is gone, trading down might be the best thing.

uhh...guys, I hate to break it to you but NE is VERY unlikely to give us both their #1's for our pick. they could, more realistically, give us their 1st pick and their late 2nd, which might not be worth it.

no doubt about it...that's why i think we need to take the best player possible with the 5th pick, probably taylor

I hope we keep the fifth pick but more likely than not we will trade it for more picks. :cry:

Last year the Bears traded the 4th pick to the Jets for the 14th and 22nd picks. And the Cardinals traded the 6th pick to the Saints for the 17th and 18th picks. The 5th pick should definitely get you at least 2 first round picks in a trade, especially with the talent that is available this year. If last year's trades show us anything, it is that the Patriots' two first round picks aren't enough to get our 5th pick. Remember what we got the last time we had the 5th pick (too bad Mike Ditka isn't running the draft for anybody this year).

while the jets and cardinals trades did happen, they have also been roasted by every pundit in the league for making those asinine moves (as was the dikta move). NE is not nearly that dumb!

You lost me, you say the Patriots won't trade up because the Jets and Cardinals "have been roasted by every pundit in the league for making those asinine moves." Clear something up for me, did "every pundit in the league" roast the Cardinals for having traded down, or did "every pundit in the league" roast the Jets for having traded up? The two teams you mention made moves in opposite directions. Your comment isn't very clear. Just because something didn't work out for one franchise, it isn't going to deter other teams from making similar moves. Steve Spurrier failed miserably in his transition from college to the NFL, that doesn't mean that there will never be another team that hires a college coach.

agreed 100% JH.

and on the NE picks note, #32 overall may as well be a 2nd rounder. the 5th is way more valuable than 21 & 32... My 2 cents

I think it i silly to start thinking about picks right now. There still could be trades where the Skins get picks from other teams. Remember McCants, if he signs elsewhere, the Skins get a first round pick. I also would not be surprised if some player like Trung get traded for a later pick then we gave up last year.

Must confess I dont really fully understand the complexities of the draft. From what I've read on the different draft sites, it seems quite likely that either Taylor, Gallery or Udeze should still be available by pick 5 so why would we trade down? is it simply the case that two lower picks are potentially worth more than a number 5 pick? The other question I have is to do with the salary cap. Would a #5 pick be cheaper to sign then two lower picks?

The more I see of Taylor, the more I think we should take him.

Seems to be the general consensus is that if Taylkor is there at #5 we should take him. Can't agree more, I'd hate to lose out on him. If he has gone, then trade down.
