Places to Watch the game in DC...

Post by Redskins1974 »

I've received several PM's regarding places to watch the game in DC... I'm creating a separate thread dedicated to this b/c the topic keeps popping up. Feel free to add on if you know of any other places.

***I just found out that Lucky Strike at Gallery Place might be a good place to watch the game:

http://www.bowlluckystrike.com/

Yeah, it's a bowling alley, but that's secondary when you think about the three 10-foot screens, the dozens of plasmas, the couches and the beer. It's more of a lounge than a bowling alley.

***Of course, there is ESPN Zone, which is here: http://www.espnzone.com/washingtondc/

***Stetson's, near 16th and U draws a great crowd for 'skins games.

http://www.stetsonsdc.com/Directions.htm

It's been a while since I've caught a game there but it might be worth getting there a tad early as tables fill up.
The one good thing about Stetson's is they crank Hail to the Redskins after each time we score. It can get a bit smokey at times though.

***There's another place in Adams Morgan called Ventnor Sports Cafe. I haven't been but here's a write up: http://www.capitalcommunitynews.com/pub ... tsCafe.cfm

***Buffalo Billiards right off Dupont has tons of TV's, including a couple large screens with the game on. It's a huge space and well ventilated - plus they have tons of pool tables if you play... with TV's everywhere.

***Apparently, this is a great sports bar:
Grand Slam Sports Bar
1000 H St. NW, Washington, DC 20001
202-637-4789 "Don't forget the bar's most convenient feature, its sports hotline (202/637-4789, Ext. 1), which lists the times and teams of the games the bar shows every day."
Grand Slam
Grand Slam...the Serious Sports Bar! is one of the most popular sports bars in the area. Located at 1000 H Street, NW (Lagoon Level of the Grand Hyatt Washington), Grand Slam offers a friendly and exciting environment to watch all of the latest sports, including everything from Washington's local home teams to NASCAR and the PGA Tour, and great food and beverages too!
For the Spectator...
With 3 large televisions, two 22-inch plasma screens and 22 monitors, all with a state-of- the-art sound system, you can be sure to see your favorite team play while keeping your eye on the competition as well.

***Then, there's Porter's Dining Saloon
http://www.portersdc.com/pages/contactus/home.htm

***************************************************
There's a million other options but this is a good start. Other places might include - the new Clyde's http://www.clydes.com/main/index.cfm near the MCI Center (right near the Lucky Strike), Fado http://www.fadoirishpub.com/fado_pub_ma ... washington or the Irish Channel http://www.irishchannelpub.com/, also close to that part of town. I hope this helps those who are looking. I'm not 100% sure of my plan yet but I'll try to post once I know.

I've been to this bar numerous times. It is located INSIDE of the Hyatt Hotel. It is down a set of escalators and yes this sports bar is very good! The wings they have there are great! I must warn you that if you get their hot wings....THEY ARE HOT! They have every type of food you would expect a sports bar to have. And their food is great! They didn't mention this above, but they have three projectors in this bar. Usually, they will have the sound turned up for the game so you can here what is happening. The only downer about this bar is that it is small and the tables can fill up; however, you can stand just about anywhere and watch and listen to whatever games you want.

If you are metroing it to this bar you would want to take the Metro to Metro Center, exit on the 11th st side of metro center, walk through some glass doors THEN take two sets of escalators up, ahead of you there will be another set of glass doors (these doors are all glass; there is no frame), walk through those glass doors, then take the first escalators you see down one level. You don't even have to walk outside. This bar is located about three blocks from Lucky Strike, and ESPN Zone.

Grand Slam sports bar is good, but I like ESPN Zone better. ESPN Zone has a crap load of arcade games on the bottom level so you can play video games while you wait an hour for a table AND it has two inch screens above the urinals SO YOU WON'T MISS ANY OF THE GAME!!!!!

Redskins Rule, thanks for the update - that's awesome. I'm always skeptical of ESPNZone b/c it gets so jammed but it sounds like you know the routine. The Grand Slam place sounds like a good one too... Many of the others I listed are smaller establishments but all have their advantages depending on what people are looking for...

That's why, as I mentioned, this is a thread related to people who asked about places to watch the game.

Punu - I had no idea that the drafthouse did either - that's crazy...

Perhaps that's the reason why State Theater no longer shows the Skins games. No way would they take business from the drafthouse. I thought I had seen the sign for the skins games at the DH, before. Thanks for reminding me.

Come to think of it, I may be there next week to watch the Skins upend Seattle.

I'm not a huge fan of Hooters in general, regardless of what some say, so the draft house sounds intruging to me. I do not like being called rif raf though!!! :nana:

As mentioned above, the food @ Grand Slam is top notch for a sports bar. Their chili is excellent. I can't say the same for ESPN Zone's food. But ESPN Zone's desserts are very good.

What about Champs @ Pentagon Row? It is not a classic sports bar but you will be able to see the game on big screens, get a very good meal and their desserts are really good too.
After every game, every play & every highlight, I'll always remember #21. RIP Sean.

My take on Lucky Strike - I went to lunch at Lucky Strike today. I just had to check it out. That place is nice! Its right next to the MCI Center. Its about a block from that Hooters on 7th street too. As you walk in you have the bowling alley on your left and the sports bar is on your right. The bowling alley is about ten lanes or so. The sports bar part is HUGE! Its about three or four times bigger than Grand Slam. They have three pool tables there, which looked to be the seven footers. The bar itself has to be about 50 feet long! On Game Days they must have at least 5 bar tenders there......I mean, its HUGE! The three ten foot projectors are lined up next to each other behind the bar with the plasma TV's seperating them........that should give you an idea of how long that bar is! I also noticed that they have a menu for all kinds of "specialty drinks" and "Champaigne Cocktails". Its about nine different drinks for each. Some of them looked pretty good. I only mention it, because I know some people prefer mixed drinks over beer. Of course I don't know why, but some people do. :)

I would definetly recommend this one as a place to go with a crap load of friends to see a game.
