Yeah but it's a lot nicer to see it formalized. I remember Steve Francis saying he was staying for his senior year, too...

Im still geeked out about this. I can only imagine how far we could possbly go now. I think I liked it better when nobody liked us. Now we're going to have to deal with constant butt kissing.

Say what! Richie was good (as a player and as an asst.) but he was not in the same situation this guy is. This guy is going to get a team that he and Gibbs will put together, plus I think Gibbs will be here (in the FO) after turning it over to Williams.

This is nearly an identical situation. I'm just saying, that if Gregg's first season as head coach doesn't go well, that he shouldn't be fired.

I saw the Gregg interview on NFL Total Access and he's soo freaking proud to be a Redskin! He basically loves Joe Gibbs and the area. He said that being a HC isn't everything although he wants to be one again. He's looking at the situation he's in and he likes it.

I think he knows this team if not this year but next year is going to be a legit superbowl contender.

I just looked at the GW interview on redskins.com. He speaks in the 3rd person, are the players rubbing off on him or vice versa?

My Theory

Post by Skinsrock »

I will start with a question... How long will Gibbs actually stick around? Another 2 maybe 3 years? Ironicly, Greg Williams was offered and signed the 3yr 8 million dollar deal the other day. Is this all a coincidence or does Danny have bigger plans than we can all imagine? Looks to me like Dan is planning for the future. Pay Greg Head coach money to keep him around till Gibbs retires ... again. He will have the opportunity to work under one of the greatest offensive minds in the game to compliment his defensive strengths.

The future is sure looking bright for us Skins fans. Its been many long painful years.

I have not signed on in a while but I check the site daily. This is the first post in a while that I have wanted to comment on. I think Gibbs is gone after next year and Williams takes over. I think that Williams is a fantastic defensive coordinator. However, the head coach deal I am not really into. Lets remember what happened the first time Gibbs left and a coordinator took over. I do not think it was a real wonderful situation.
That being said I am ecstatic over the skins this season. And if and when we beat Tampa Bay, Im going to Seattle to watch the game. GO SKINS!!!

i remember that the free agency period (CBA) didn,t kick in until the 1993 season the year petitbon took over we had players leave on the open market so that didn,t help his cause any at all.so when joe steps down for good i for one hopes he goes into the front office and oversees things aka. the team president, then hires a gm or even hires an asst. general manager that can be a possiblity but when that time comes i will worry about that then but for now things look good in terms of the future with the redskins and gregg williams.

i liked the fact that he wants to be here and he sees this team going places and working alongside joe gibbs. his family is happy means the world to him i,m sure.

casserly was here at the time.
bobby beathard went on to the san diego chargers if my memory serves me right..once dan synder bought the team in 99 casserly went on to the houston texans.
beathard left before dan bought into the team.

correct me if i,m wrong.

Hadn't read this anywhere else, but you just know that Williams is a classy enough individual to have got this done:

But Williams' deal also had another big-time effect. Before finalizing it, he made sure that each of his defensive coaches also got raises. It was important to him that, at a time he was going to be compensated, the men who worked for him also were. They were.

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder took care of Williams and his assistants -- and, indirectly, might have done the same for other NFL head coaches.

*stuff* rolls down hill. when you find a guy you can work for, and "he" looks after you, beneath him, thats a scenario that spells job security for the lower guy.... My 2 cents

kudos to williams for stepping up, and knowing that it wasn't just him who makes this defense click. he is standing up for the TEAM, not just himself. joe gibbs has rubbed off on EVERYONE in the entire organization. and, IMO, this is a GOOD thing....

This will lead free agents to look at the redskins as more than just a payday. It shows that not only is the staff committed to putting a winning team on the field but also that "the Danny" will keep this staff together.

Petibon's first year was the first year of the new free agency and the salary cap. Art Rooney and a few other old-time / less rich owners purposely set the cap low enough to protect themselves and to cripple Jack Kent Cooke.

As best I remember, the Redskins were $20 or 30 million over cap that first year. That forced the team to give up Wilbur Marshall, Gary Clark, and Jumpy Geathers right off.

Petibon also lost core players to injury: Rypien sprained a knee in the second or third game, Lachey tore a ligament in the first or second game, most of the other Hogs were out for long parts of the season. In addition, Desmond Howard got his chance to replace Clark, and turned out to be a big nothing.

So...I thought Petibon did not have a fair chance as head coach. Compare that year to all the years Cooke 1, Cook 2, and Casserly gave to Turner...who managed to instill a consistent losing attitude over seven years. A long time.

Espn's Mortensen with some new news on Gregg Williams

Post by dredg »

He said they've confirmed that Gregg would receive a $1 million dollar bonus if he's on the skins staff when Gibbs retires again and *is not* named the head coach.

So now there is a lot of credibility to him already being in place as the next coach of the Washington Redskins.
