Portis finished fourth in rushing

Post by ejay183 »

Portis has proven the doubters wrong, not just with his rushing, but his blocking skills.
Clinton Portis 2005-2006 Season tracker
352 carries 1516 yards 11 TDs
30 receptions 216 yards 0 TDs
1/2 17 yards 1 TD 118.8

But don't you realize that Portis is a bad fit for the Gibbs offense?

They did a pretty good job of pointing out that Moss and Portis broke Redskins' records during Fox's telecast yesterday. Also on ESPN radio today a few of the commentators were saying that Portis is the hottest back going into the playoffs. But overall Portis doesn't get anywhere near the credit he deserves. He is a top 5 back in the NFL.

Considering the blocking that he did this year I'd easily place him in the top 2 or 3 backs in the league. Brian Westbrook got a lot of attention for being pretty good; but of course that was before getting injured.

As for Clinton, the stud has done everything asked of him and more. How he consistently gets 4-7 yard gashes on those no-plays. . .well, I might never know. . .

Fox is Pro NFC and they don't have time time to think before they speak(so the truth slips out sometimes). As far as ESPN goes they have all of their "fill-in" working for the the "Top-Guns" so you can actually hear opinions during the holidays instead of the company line(which is to trash the Skins at every turn)

Wasn't around here when the Portis-Bailey deal went down. What were most saying. Did you like the deal then and do you still make the trade. I was not sure about the trade when made. But would do it again. Kinda has worked well for both teams..........

I supported the trade when it was made and I would make it 100% of the time. The question was what was the value of a CB relative to an RB and was the draft pick the Skins included too much for Portis. I argued then, and still believe, the value of a top-notch RB exceeds the value of a top-notch CB. The past two seasons have validated that line of thinking, IMO.

This clearly shows that he was not just another system back. He is versatile and has shown to be a tough inside runner and blocker. IMO he should be in the pro bowl.

With the continuity this team is experiencing in coaching there is no way we can be snubbed next year.

Brunell, Cooley, Portis, Santana all probowlers for offense next year.

Did anyone else see the block portis put on the eagles defender(linebacker or lineman) on the sellers TD? Oh man he laid him out, it was a thing of beauty.

Santana has really loosened the binds on this offense but Portis is still our centerpeice. I know we have capable backups buts he's a gem. Im glad we have him.

OK, I've taken a deep breath, and I say this with reverence. Portis reminds me of Larry Brown.

Portis hits a hole quickly; Brown got his yardage by accelerating faster than any back in the NFL. Portis pulverizes people with his blocking; Larry Brown was a blocking back in college. Portis will scare a defense with his pass receiving; Larry Brown could catch a five-yard panic dump-off and run it 85 yards for a TD (Jets, 1972, for instance).

Since Brown is the best running back I have ever seen play for the Redskins -- and I'm not ignoring Riggins -- I'm saying that Portis is superb.
