IRVING, Texas - The Cowboys' season ended abruptly Sunday night with a 20-10 loss to the St. Louis Rams.
Greg Ellis believes his eight-year stay in Dallas might be over, too.
Ellis wasn't sure he could be productive as a 3-4 defensive end when Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells decided to change schemes this past off-season. At 280 pounds, the Cowboys' former first-round pick didn't have ideal size to take on stronger, heavier offensive tackles from an inside position.
But despite finishing the season tied with rookie linebacker DeMarcus Ware for the team lead in sacks (8), the 30-year-old Ellis doesn't think he fits in the Cowboys' long-term plans any longer.
I'm not typically a run-out-and-sign-player-X-type of guy, but Greg Ellis has been pretty good the last few years. His eight sacks would certainly pace the Redskins defense. He's also decent against the run. At 30, age may be a bit of concern though, that and the Redskins past bad luck with signing former Cowboys.

I'm like JF... I hate the 'we should sign everyone' mentality that goes along with message boards.
But yeah... I posted it because I think he could be a good fit for us. A good fit that would be looked after in Feb when free agency opens allowing the Redskins to address the draft accordingly.
His only negative is that he's a puke and he'd be a 'quick fix' in that he's not a young buck any more.
Gregg Williams could really use a third DE like Ellis to make both Daniels and Wynn that much better. Wynn gets no credit but he's one of the main reasons our run defense is ALWAYS pretty good.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for fiscal restraint, less turnover, and builing a team that lasts. I just wondered if you posted this because you thought he might be a good player for us to go after, like Rabach last year. Assuming he doesn't want big (Kearse-like) money.
While DL go (too) early in the draft, we should be able to get a pretty good player with our 2nd round pick. I even wonder if Wynn couldn't move inside at times too. A few years back, I believe Wynn played inside for us and did a nice job. I like guys that can do more than one position.

I've seen several third downs where Wynn or Daniels or both moved inside. Demetric Evans also plays both positions. It is the single-most reason why our run defense is spectacular except against Bruce Perry.

I don't want this guy. He's an X-Cowboy. He'll do alot of good for us and play really hard right up until we play the Cowboys. Then He'll miss a sack or miss a tackle and Dallas ends up scoring the go ahead touchdown. I don't want this piece of crap on our team. Anyone but a X-Cowboy.
So I guess there's no point in signing ANYBODY that may come from a team that way may find on our schedule this year?
I mean.... they're just going to tank the game right?
While it may not be a great example dues to injuries... Brandon Noble certainly never gave me the impression that he would lay down against the Pukes. In fact, in the few CONVERSATIONS that I've been lucky enough to have with him.... he stated the EXACT opposite.
Do you think his teammates wouldn't notice? How long do you think a modern NFL locker room would take to make a pariah of such an individual?? How about Gibbs? How long would it take him to out a mole?
We're two days into our first post-season appearance since 1999 and it seems people have already forgotten that it's Gibbs' ability to manage a TEAM that got us here.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.
Not to mention that I cannot even imagine Greg Williams saying "well, he seems to be taking every other play off but I'm so fond of him that I can't stomach benching him"
You'd do well to get him. Just because he didn't fit our scheme doesn't mean he wouldn't fit yours.
The only good first round pick of the post Jimmy pre Parcells era. (And we passed on Moss for him )
I personally hope he goes somewhere in the AFC so he's not motivated to kick the crap out of us twice a year.

I agree - any and all NFL players that are going to be considered by Gibbs & Williams are going to play their hearts out on every down against whomever they are lined up against. They will not be looked at (or considered) if they don't have the sort of character and football intelligence that these guys want. This team does not have the luxury to make too many more mistakes on who we bring in for tryouts.
I love it when a "fantasy" football player lines up across from a Jacoby, a Starke or a Dave Butz.
I will say one thing - I think we are fast becoming a franchise that players want to be on and not for the money reasons of the past. I think they know they will be well paid but they also know they will have to earn it now.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Boy, good thing you're here !
Boss specifically cited him eight posts ago.

SOMETHING MAGICAL IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!"

I didn't forget about Gibbs managing a team.......Well, I might have forgot for a second. I just don't trust them Cowboys until they prove otherwise. I do trust Gibbs and if he sees something in him that I don't see. I'll trust Gibbs' judgement. However, Gibbs hasn't made it known that he sees anything in him yet so screw Ellis and screw Dallas!

If anything, being dumped by Dallas might provide him incentive to want to kick their butts when he plays them.

I say we sign him. I like his playmaking ability and he's still got some tread left on him. He would be a great addition to our line and lets face it-> he needs a 4-3 defense.
Man, I totally forgot Noble was an ex puke...
The thought of anything from Dallas makes my stomach churn but I dont doubt he'd give us his all. I wonder how he'd take to Gibbs anti-Cowpuke feelings. Our guys loathe the Pukes and it seems genuwine. I wonder how hard it'd be for him to do that if at all.

They are more or less forcing him out. His hatered for that team in Texas may never hit my level but I think it's well on it's way and he is still wearing the star
