The Redskins Best Player

Post by JPM36 »

I said at the beginning of the year that Sean Taylor was the Redskins best player and I continue to believe it.

You could make a compelling case for Clinton Portis, or Santana Moss, or Randy Thomas, or Marcus Washington, or Cornelius Griffin. If anyone said one of those players was the best Redskin, I would definitely hear them out.

But to me, #21 is our guy. He held the secondary together today unbelievably. With our corners dropping like flies, the Eagles still weren't able to beat us deep, because they knew that a long pass was far more likely to be interecepted by Taylor, than caught by an Eagle.

He CONSTANTLY was rushing up to the line of scrimmage to blow up running plays. The Eagles were getting to the 2nd level very well today in the running game, but Taylor was constantly up to the task, throwing RBs back forcefully.

And then with the ball rolling around on the ground, teasing us all, Taylor scooped it up and ran to the end zone, putting us in the playoffs for the first time in 6 years.

Sean Taylor has been the best safety in football over the second half of this season. A huge reason the Bucs threw all over us in the first meeting en route to 36 points, was the absence of Taylor.

It's time he starts to recognition from the national media as well as his own fans for being not just a good player, but one of the best in the NFL.

He is, after all, the best player on the team.

And he's only 22 years old.....

Hail to the Redskins!!!!!!!!!

Now, I'm a huge Sean Taylor fan I think the guy is one of the Elite safeties in the NFL right now, but for me he is not the player of the season for the Redskins this year. He could improve his angles when supporting on run support but that will come with time. My guy's for the year are #53 or #26 they have been leaders on and off the field and hopefully they get the plaudits they deserve from the people most important to Washington which are it's fans and coaches.
Playoffs baby!!!!, Joe Gibbs has brought respect back to the Redskins.

how wonderful to be able to pick from so many players that you could argue as being the best!!

or what you said....

Either Washington or Portis. Hell I could even throw in Santana Moss for that. But Portis has basically carried this offense on his back during our win streak.

What a tough, tough SOB.

Changing of the Guard?? I kept waiting for LA to make a big play tonight...sadly it never happened. ST comes up with thebiggest play of! his young career to propell the Skins into the playoff hard to even imagine a ending like that!

I agree 100% with that observation. At that point in the year people were saying he was not living up to expectations and when he went down all of a sudden everyone saw just how important he was to the team. It's amazing that a second year guy plays such an integral role.

However, I have to say that you're wrong, Portis is definately the best player on this team. Taylor, Griffin, Thomas, Washington, Salave'a, Moss and Marshall all deserve nods but Clinton is the best.

Taylor is definitly our best defensive player. As much as I love Moss, Portis is our best offensive player.

Well I did title the thread Best "Player" for a reason.

The question who is the best Redskin? is so easy to answer it would be a giant waste of time. Joe Gibbs will always be known as the greatest Redskin of them all.

I really believe Taylor is our best player tho. He is an amazing force on defense. With Springs, Rogers, and Jimoh all going down what would we have done without Taylor today?

He is playing at incredibly high level right now.

On defense- #98 is starting to become a serious playmaker. What an awesome game- changing INT. A strong case could be made
for 21,95,96,97,93,24 as well. I just think #53 is our most consistent player since his arrival. Marcus just makes plays and always
keeps everybody fired up.

On offense- #89 and #26 are dynamic. #77 and #76 aren't too bad either. #8 might not have looked real sharp, but his 12 yard run on third down was a crucial play. He is a great leader. #47 is a special player.

This TEAM is outstanding the way they are ONE. There are so many role players it is hard to just pick one player as the most important.

Just think if we didn't have Ramsey backing up the 8. We might not have won last week. Everyone has truly contributed.

If I had to pick one player it would be #89. The reason is if we lost the 26, the 46 or the 31 could team up to take up the slack. Who is going to fill the 89 shoes. If we didn't have him they could put 9 men in the box and double the 47 and we would be toast.

We dont have a best player.

We have a best team since Gibbs has left. To be honest none of the players can shine on their own.

That was a heck of an athletic play by Sean Taylor scooping up the rock and getting over whoever it was that was trying to cut his legs out, the guy is our hardest hitter but our best Player is so hard to choose from with Moss, Portis, Jansen, Thomas, Samuels, it may actually be Marcus Washington in all honesty, his enthusiasm spreads throughout the defense and the team and he makes big plays i.e. the strip today was huge. That's what I love most about this season is we are such a TEAM with no 1 individual standing above the collective and that's a credit to THE BEST FOOTBALL COACH OF ALL TIME and my Hogs.net username's sake Joe mother lovin Gibbs.

I understand that we have a lot of very good players, but I don't think people are giving enough credit to Taylor for the job he has done holding together a banged up secondary and plugging the run. He played an absolutely awesome football game today. We wouldn't be going to Tampa Bay if not for him.

He might have not been the most consistent all season but sean taylor really did show me somethin yesterday.

When the defense was down it almost seemed like sean taylor on every consecutive play was in the picture hitting somebody and screaming his head off. He continually held the defense together and sparked a win by the defense when the offense wasnt getting it done like it had been over the past few weeks.

ST is my favorite player hands down. and did anyone else see the play with 56 and 53 both laying a shoulder into an eagles player, that sent chills up my spine, that was definately a game for fans of defense

ST was undountedly the best player on the field yesterday... easily his best game in the B&G.

Having said that, to imply that we wouldn't be going to tampa without him is a stretch IMO.

Marcus Washington shows up every game. He's still CONSISTENTLY our best player in my opinion.

Nobody ever talks about just how good a job Jon Jansen has done of making the switch to blind side tackle. He may still techincally play the same position, but it's a completely different set of responsibilities. For a natural run blocker to do such a good job of pass protecting is truly a credit to both his attitude and aptitude.

Is he our MVP? maybe not... but I think he makes EVERY Redskin better by virtue of example.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

Boss, what I meant is that we would not have won YESTERDAY without Taylor, and therefore we wouldn't have made the playoffs. He carried the defense yesterday and held together a decimated secondary. It was an unbelievable performance.

I won't argue with you about Marcus or Jansen tho.

My point was just that I personally think Taylor is our best player and I think its about time people recognized how great he is. Yesterday was undoubtedly his best game as a Redskin (talk about timing) but he has been awesome over the 2nd half of this season.

Sean Taylor is great, and he played his behind off on Sunday. Now, if you think he is the best player, it is only a testament to the job this coaching staff has done with him, despite the early troubles in his career.
Back and better than ever!
