CBS9 rumors Skins would trade Portis for Law and 21 and 32

Post by Dapo »

I will love this deal so much. i love but... We can essentially get Taylor, Starks, Jones (Va Tech or Fl St) and Law for Bailey and a 2nd round pick. This move would fix up our secondary and d-line, as well as give us the work-horse back that Gibbs desires. :o

I think the sheer size of the deal for Portis means the trade rumours are just that.

now that portis has agreed to a hefty deal, i would be shocked if this trade went through. i would think the patsies would balk at having to assume such a large contract without having a say in it. i think portis is staying.

I doubt it - but it could happen - the Pats might have insisted on a long term contract as a part of the deal, but I really doubt it.

That what I was thinking Rich... isn't it possible that the Pats gave the Skins a buget of what they would pay?? This just seems to be to much for a Gibbs running back? I know they can struture in a cap friendly way, but man in a few years the money that's coming due to some of these guys is alot and will they restruture???

Bottom line is winning!!

Ty Law no matter what will stay in NE next year. They have already counting on not being able to restructure his deal. They are about to announce the contract extention of Ted Washington which sucks. They cant afford to sign Portis to a deal. They are over the cap as it is and need to make room to resign Washington and sign their million and one draft picks they have this year. Count on NE to trade possibly both of their number ones or their 21 pick and both second rounders to move up to #5. The one thing thats for sure in all of this is that Portis will be wearing Burgundy and Gold next year and for many years after that. WELCOME CLINTON! On another note I wish I could be welcoming another Clinton back to Washington.

DEHog - what you say is true - but one thing to keep in mind is that there is a new collective bargaining agreement to be reached in 2007 - supposedly an uncapped year - though as I speculate and Boss insists we won't see an uncapped year.

I think, but I am far from certain, that a new TV contract is going to be figured around then as well... and that could easily spike the amount of money teams have available to spend. You know bidding is gonna be high... especially if ESPN, TNT, or NBC get into the thick of it for full time coverage.

I hope to see that we are able to spend more money then so that we can absorb some of the hits.... I don't worry about the salaries to be blunt cause most of the big dollars won't be paid. That is what a lot of people don't get - when you backload, you are in essence dictating the length of the contract by showing when the cap UNfriendly numbers show up. If the Skins need cap room, they lose the player and the cap hit. The only reason why they spread the cap number out over so many years is to spread the bonus hit out.

In my opinion, the agents get paid based on the total contract amount and that is why the huge backloads...

If I was a player, and I wanted to be an integral part of a winning team I would beat my agent into accepting a contract that had much more flat salaries - say 1.5 to 2 mil a year and sign for a long time with no backloading... but then the players do benefit from signing another contract and getting the roster bonus all over again.

Seems like the fans are the only ones to really take it in the britches - we don't get any continuity... parity - ick ptui!

So let me get this straight guys... the New England patriots front office is so lazy, that rather than do a deal with Portis themselves and take their own team into consideration, they preferred that the Redskins figure it all out for them, ship them Portis, and they'll send back a guy who's the best of the best and has already stated repeatedly that he will re-do his contract to stay in NE?

And they'll throw in 2 first rounders too.

ROTFALMAO

I love rumors... I think this one is pretty far-fetched myself (as you can probably tell).

Wait... wait... i have another part... Denver didn't want Champ either... they were just figuring out the contract for the Jets so that they could ship their package off to the Broncos for Bailey and New York wouldn't have to go through the laborious task of figuring out Champ's contract.

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!

IMO Portis is coming and he'll be here for a while! We'll know for how long when we see his contract and when that big roster bonus hits.

I agree with ya Boss - I seriously doubted it would happen to begin with, but you never knew with NE needing help with the run and all. I just like speculating :)

But seriously, that deal, if it was ever real, wouldn't stand a snowflakes chance in the netherworld at this point...

Good point Rich...I too think the cap will be higher. Also there will have to be agreement by players and owner on the percentage of revenue..cap vs. profit for owner I forget the number ??

Boss your right...Totally goes against the Pats MO.

I assume your refering to Bill Clinton. I'm thrilled to have Portis here. But Bill or Hillary coming back to Washington again? No thanks.

Thank you for saving me the time of doing that Boss. This is a trade rumor and I'm tired of seeing posts on it. But that's how we do.
