You're thinking of restricted free agents (RFA). Wasn't Smoot a plain-old free agent when he left? If he was, we got nothing for it. We'd only get a pick if he was an RFA.
I know we have needs, but the draft really rolls around talent -- Who's the most talented on the board for your pick. There are some serious studs at DL in the draft, but I'm not sure how many will be left by the 32nd pick in the second round!
Either way, Gibbs will do well in the draft. I'm more interested in FA, where we grab some veterans to compliment our corps. My money's on Reggie Wayne -- wouldn't that be a duo!

"The biggest misrepresentation there is that [it's because] Dan's got a lot of money. That's not it," Gibbs said. "We've got a rule. Believe me, if we had no rules, Dan would spend some money."

Reggie Wayne's good, but that's the problem - he's going to be costly if Indy lets him go. The 'skins likely would not be the only interested team. If we can get him and he doesn't break the bank, he'd be an awesome addition, making both the running game and the passing game something to be feared.

We covered most of this about 3 weeks ago...

Watch the NC State game on Dec. 28th. They will talk about the End Mario Williams a lot but there is another DEnd named Manny Lawsom whos is awsome as well...Big and Fast. They are saying that he will be a mid second rounder. There's a lot of guys out there who we can take. Don't forget we could use a viable #2 receiver who's tall.

How about we draft Sinorice Moss!?
Imagine how cool that would be. The guys a speed demon just like his brother and he would be great on special teams. Having two Mosses on the field will be impossible to defend!

I'm getting Exited about the draft!!
I think we should draft Reggie Bush or the real good Quarterback. they are both really good I think. Even if not that good, they have similar color uniforms as we do! So they should like playing for the Redskins!! They can just pretend they are still @ USC playing for the championships all the time!!

...Um, hate to break the news but we don't have a first round pick. Besides that, I don't see us trading up to pick up a stud QB/RB seeing as we're pretty good in both departments.

I don't know all the details I guess. All I know is that guy last year (Manning?) wanted to play for the Giants so he played for the Giants. The Skins should do the same thing.
Sell Reggie Bush and Lionhart on playing for the Skins. Tell them how much we want them on our team and how much they would like playing for a hall of fame coach like Joe Gibb! No other team can say that! PLUS they get to wear pretty much the same color uniforms so that should be a good thing too. With all that we should be able to get them!!

Actually, Manning didn't express an interest in playing for the Giants. He said he didn't want to play in San Diego. Ernie Acorsi was all over Manning like stink on poop.
Matt L. and Reggie Bush may be great NFL stars. Leinhart will need some time to acclimate moreso, IMO, than Reggie Bush. He'll be a star from day 1. We traded picks last year to get Jason Campbell who is learning and preparing to guide our franchise post-Brunell, whenever that is. Portis is our franchise back: young, talented, and a team leader. We've got serviceable backups in Betts, the Rock, and Boughton.
Our focus in the draft ought to be depth and quality players, a-la Chris
ey. We certainly don't need any high-priced young pri-madonnas stinking up the veteran locker room chemistry. Just my

Imagine all the good guys we could get for Brunell, Portis, Ramsey and Campbell. Brunell is getting old and none of the other guys have every won anything.
Bush and that Lionhart guy have won a National Championship AND the Hiesman trophy which is only for the BEST player in the country!!!
They are winners and better than what we have anyway so we could do some trades and get lots of other good guys PLUS add the 2 best players from the 2 past years.
If coach gibb or mr. snyders reads this board, trust me, you should pick both these guys now!!!

Wow...this is the NFL, not Madden 06. Portis is not going anywhere, not for a long time -- because he's YOUNG. Brunell is getting old but that makes him more saavy and it's shown. Leinhart is unproven in the NFL. Remember Ryan Leaf? A championship guy with great college experience. A total NFL bust. What about Alex Smith, last year's first overall pick. Bust. In fact, I would venture to suggest there are more first round busts than success stories.
You're suggesting that we get rid of a ton of proven leaders for rookie potential. That's insane.

You should give the guy a few more seasons (and a few more blue chip players - no one can do it alone in football) before you say that. Few QB's excel as rookies. Our own rookie QB hasn't even been on the field yet.

That's certainly true at QB. Tim Couch, Heath Shuler, Andre Ware, Akili Smith, and on and on and on . . .

I think wormer is violating some "don't drink and post" rule.
