Thomas Suffers Fractured Ankle In Game By Gary Fitzgerald Redskins.com December 18, 2005
Right guard Randy Thomas fractured his right ankle in Sunday's 35-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys, according to head coach Joe Gibbs. Thomas sustained the ankle injury in the fourth quarter of the game. His leg was rolled on by a teammate while there was a scramble for a fumbled ball.
Team trainers are evaluating the injury in the Redskins' locker room and are expected to update Thomas's status after the game.
Thomas was replaced in the lineup by veteran offensive lineman Ray Brown.
Gibbs said after the game that he expects Brown to step into the starting lineup in place of Thomas.
"I think Ray will have to go in for us," Gibbs said.
Thomas has been part of an offensive line that has been dominant in recent weeks. On Sunday against the Cowboys, the Redskins' offense rushed for 100-plus yards and did not yield a sack.
Thomas had to be carted off the field. As he exited, he raised his fists high in the air to acknowledge the FedExField crowd, who stood in applause of the 7th-year offensive lineman.
"I was on the sideline and guys were talking about the score, and then it hit me -- we won by 21. I came in the locker room and I yelled it out, and immediately I just kind of broke down in tears. Because I miss Sean, you know."
NNNNNOOOO!!!!!!! Not Randy!!! We need him, he is our best guard and he just level people on those sweeps and counters. Well Ray Brown, you got big shoes to fill next week.
hey dont worry about it guys, ray brown still has some left in the tank, all we need is consistency and if he can't give it to us after 20 years in the league, i don't know who can. he'll make his blocks count, don't worry about it. randy thomas will be the new rock cartwright, standing on the sidelines pumping up that crowd, which he did today when he was exiting.
Sean, may you always rest in peace and look down on us with the same love that we look up to you.
why start ray brown.. .he's too old... i think we should start corey raymer at center and move casey rabach over. i seem to recall rabach having to do that with ravens last season
He has a broken bone in his lower leg. At least there wasn't ligament damage. This really sucks, he was really playing amazing football the last few weeks. With him in there he certainly makes us a better team but we still have a chance to make the playoffs without him. I feel bad for him, he was just having an incredible year.
Oh, BTW, here's the quote:
The victory came with a price. Right guard Randy Thomas, the Redskins' most consistent lineman and the lead blocker on many of Portis' wide runs, is lost for the season after breaking a bone in his lower leg in the fourth quarter. Thomas was carted off the field as many of the 90,588 fans -- a Redskins record at FedEx Field -- chanted "Randy!"

On point!
1. He's been rested all season.
2. He knows the offense.
3. He has good chemistry with the line.
4. He'll be playing his natural position.
5. Gibbs is not retarded, we will run plays that he can execute.
RAY BROWN can he get it done against the Gmen? Who's behind him if he gets hurt? This injury could have been avoided in many different ways but none of that matters now, Mike Sellers said the Skins wouldn't miss a beat, is that accurate?
