Greatest Redskins Memory

One of the most unique things about the hogs.net in my opinion is that we are all very unique. There is a wide range of age groups represented, and lots of us come from some very different backgrouds. The important thing is that we all bleed burgundy and gold.

I want to know what your favorite all time Redskins memory is. What sticks out in your mind as a moment that you'll cherrish forever, moreso than other great times.

I'll start by saying that my favorite memory, I was alive and can remember watching on T.V. (as opposed to on video that my momz taped from the glory days) took place in 1999. The last time we went to the playoffs. We were playing on Sunday Night Football nationally on ESPN, and the Skins were in SF trying to wrap up a playoff spot and win the division.

They were marching in the final minutes to take the lead, and Paul McGuire said, "Do you think the Redskins know what's at stake here." Right on cue, Brad Johnson took the snap from Corey Raymer, dropped back and dumped a pass off to Larry Centers in the flat. Centers took it 30 yards to the house, there was a mad pile of burgundy jersey's in the endzone, and the team was in euphoria on the bench.

I remember that great feeling that night, and the chills rushing though my body. I stayed home from school to buy my divisional title had the next morning, and will never forget that. I got that excited about a postseason, because it was the first I had truely witnessed in person. Being an infant in 91-92 didn't count. Imagine how I'm going to feel when I experience what most of you already have. The Skins bringing home a Lombardy Trophy...

I have many, here are 2:

12/31/72 when Charley Taylor caught a touchdown pass from Billy Kilmer to seal the NFC Championship game over Dallas - sooooo sweet.

Not sure of the year - but it was against Dallas at home. With seconds to go, Ken Houston tackled Walt Garrison (Rodeo Walt), pulled him back from the goal line to preserve the victory. The greatest single tackle I ever saw.

I have so many, but one of my favorites was the scene in the 91 playoffs vs. the Falcons. After the game was cemented, the fans started throwing the give-away seat cushions on the field. On TV it looked like it was raining seat cushions. That was an awesome sight.

1973 - monday nighter - Craig Morton made the throw.

I think my favorite all time moment had to be the half time of our second Super Bowl victory. I knew that I had not only just witnessed one of the greatest offensive outbursts of all-time... but that Gibbs had done it again, and in half a game.

Hard to not pick Riggo's run against the Dolphins. It's one of those things where you just pick something else for the sake of not picking the obvious.

When Marty was the coach and Lavar Arrington intercepted the ball against carolina and returned it for a touchdown. Then with a few 20+ yard pass plays, the redskins won, ending a five game losing streak.

My top memories already been reported, but I have to say I can't split Riggins' run and the 35 point 2nd quarter in SB XXII. If I had to go with one, with a gun held to my head, I'd say Riggins, a single, emotional play.

i do like the 35 pts in the second quarter to demolish denver in the SB. Thats one of the first skins games i ever watched, and one of my favs.

The annihilation of the Broncos was especially sweet for me as I was living in Cleveland at the time and had adopted the Browns as my B team.
I was at the game when LaVar returned the INT for a touchdown. So many people had left the game at that point that I ran along with LaVar from the 45 yard line to the end zone.

I have two:

1- Riggins breaking McNeill's tackle to go 43yds for a TD on 4th and 1. What a gutsy call. I'll never forget that play, as long as I live. I was on my knees, in front of the television, banging the floor with all my might, screaming GO RIGGINS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

2- Dexter Manley LEVELLING Danny White in the Championship Game that same year. I was watching that game in California, and I felt that hit all the way on the west coast. Anybody remember that hit?

all the moments that you guys listed were definitely great. though some were before my time (1973 BH? wow...that was a year before i was born).

my favourite moment came not too long ago (was it 00 or 01). it was against the giants. darrell green was trying to jam big joe jurevicius and missed badly. jurevicius takes off downfield catches the ball and looks like he might run for a touchdown. green comes out of nowhere and pops the ball from jurevicius' hands. redskins recover. "holy !@#!" i screamed, "the old man still has some game in him".

what a great player darrell green was. a man with character and durability. he never gave up on a play.

Two of mine that I've seen in person where both in the Ravens game. I took my wife (Ravens season tix holder) and two friends from work - also Ravens fans.

The game wasn't much - mistakes, defense-paced, tough. But the last play of the half when Banks rolls right from about our 6 and tosses one into the end zone for an apparent TD. DG steps in front with a great interception. Kills their momentum and we go into the half down 3 -0 .

But the best was in the second half when Davis bounces out to the left stiff arms Woodson (I believe) and rolls 30 some yards for the TD. I was standing up yelling TD when Davis was still at the 25. No way you stop him with an arm tackle at full speed. My buddy's kept yelling Ray will get him - NOT!

Both plays occurred in our end zone right in front of us. And a beautiful day to boot.

Game ended 10-3. It was the 1st of 4 games the Raisins didn't score a TD in. Needless to say my wife and friends heard their share of "Hail to the Redskins" on the long ride home to Baltimore.

Though not asked my worse day at FedEx was the Dallas comeback. That 90 some yard catch and run by the Rocket at the end of the game was a killer. The buddy that went that day became an 0 and 5 guy over the years. Needless to say I don't take him to the games anymore.

I remember when DG chased down Tony Dorsett outta nowhere on a like 70 yard run. That was one amazing play - DG was pure speed and Tony never saw it coming. If you ever get a chance to see that it was beautiful. And I'm tellin you young ones - the Ken Houston goalline play in 1973 was just awesome and to be the last play of the game - don't get must better.

All the SuperBowls had soooo many great plays - Theisman knocking down an apparent interception in XVII, that was a game saver.

best - not sure of the date, but back in '96 a friend offered me a seat to a Monday nighter with the pukes....my first and only game to attend live....damn was that fun! the beers were flowin and I was hoarse for days....until last year it was the last win before the "streak"...I'll never forget it

I think Kenny Houston's game ending tackle of Walt Garrison was probably the greatest single play ever by a Redskin. My favorite is a play that will never show in the stats... A DG pick that was called back for defensive holding...

DG was trailing the receiver on the right side, towards the sideline. The pass was a little weak, and behind Darell. He had terrible position on the ball, leapt and ceaught the ball in his left hand, over and behind his head, pinning it against the small of his back, all while in the air. Unfortunately, the flags all over the field told the story. What an incredible, athletic display.

Another favorite was DG's punt return for a TD in the closing moments of a playoff game (I think against Chicago). He tore a bunch of rib muscles making a defender tacke air, was clearly in incredible pain, and finished the play anyway.

TH..I was also at that game it was 97...do you remember Aikman trying to go up and over Patton at the goal line he got hit and flipped Pokes has to settle for A FG and we won 21-16 I believe??

i can't pick one,i have several.watching the skins beat the pokes in the 72 nfc championship game 26-3,houston stopping garrison at the 1 inch line,green catching dorsett from behind in 83,the riggins superbowl run,and the last game i ever saw with my daddy when the 87 strike team beat dallas at dallas with a bunch of regs playing with the scabs,also pretty fond of the 28 pt come from behind victory at detroit.the angry ones have to be jim hart's invisible td pass in 75 that knocked the skins out of the playoffs,the clint longley turkey day miracle,the poke fans singing happy birthday to theismann in a 1985 monday night dallas blowout,who can't ever forget the cowboys come from behind by 21 in 1999 at fed eex field?some of the best times of my life have occured during redskins games.that's why i'll never pull against them ever ever ever.

Worst memory:

12/26/93 - the day after may father (big Redskin fan) passed away and we lost to Dallas 38-3. That was about as bad as it could get for me.

end of the first quarter - Doug Williams has just gone to the sideline injured - the score 10-0 to the Broncos and I say (to a Broncos fan)

"I hope we dont get blown out"

Has got to have been the greatest mozza statement of all time

Must also include Riggo's run as an honary mention

Most of my faves have been mentioned, but I have a couple more.

1. Lavar knocking the crap out of Aikman to end his career

2. Aikman fumbling in the endzone after his o-line called our d-line "deadskins". Our guys recovered, and won the game.

3. Gibbs on his knees praying during the final moments of a playoff game against Minnesota.

4. Art Monk being carried off the field on his teammates shoulders on Monday Night Football

I like when Frerotte scored a TD and ran his dome into the wall and he couldn't play for the rest of the season. That still cracks me up. I never liked his silly a$$ anyways.

All kidding aside though Lavar ending Aikmans career is my all time favorite memory. Now when Cowgirl fans try to trash talk me I just tell 'em "hey my man ended your HOF quarterbacks career,..." usually followed by a derrogatory word or comment that describes aikman as a certain part of the female anatomy.
