Turning Point

Post by The Hogster »

To all of the fellow fans who have been fans for the Redskins for a while. I wanted to start this thread to make the statement (and give everyone an opportunity to voice their opinions) that this game is our Pivotal Turning Point. The turning point that all Pro Teams must reach to thrust themselves into a winning culture.

Much like the Bengals had to overcome the Steelers, and the Colts had to prove that they could beat the Patriots. Or even farther, how the Bulls had to first get past the Pistons in the late 80's. Every team that has a winning future must first prove in a pivotal moment that they have arrived by overcoming a team that once seemed insurmountable.

Sure the Eagles have dominated our division, however, historically speaking, no team has had our number like the Cowboys. If the optimists around here (who have been optimistic from DAY 1) are to be proven right, the Skins must step up with a big Joe Gibbs style win.

It is there for us, this single game will define our season and that is why I believe we will win it. It is time for our hard work to pay off...and payday is Sunday.

Let's cash in.

HAIL

I just hope this team comes to play and plays "Redskins football" like it is capable of doing. On Sunday, this team is either going to play very well . . . . or very bad. There will be no middle ground. I hope they play the best they've played all year!

I hope you're right. Even when the Skins were great, they weren't able to sweep them Cowboys. I have a really hard time imagining them doing it this week, but that won't stop me dreaming. [-o<

I agree. I am not going to look at last week as an idicator of our play this week though. I mean the Bucs lost to the 49ers the week before beating us. I think things change week to week. We are coming home, there will be an electricity in the air and we have the Boys out in the cold, freezing air in a game that means something.

Great post. I would even have to venture that when we beat Dall@ss this Sunday, all could be forgiven even if we don't make the playoffs.

Positives to be taken from this season:
1. Portis has further emerged as a team leader.
2. Brunell's leadership has been a crucial factor at times and a reminder to why Coach Gibbs drives the bus and we are just along for the ride.
3. Winning attitudes translate into W's. Moss has been as much a positive as the absence of Coles/Gardner.
4. Though our defense is not as good as last year, the improvements we were able to make in the absence of $ players has improved the team.

The season could end today and I would feel as if the team is turning the corner. Things do not happen overnight very often, and when they do often do not stick around long. I would rather it take a few years for the Redskins to develop a winning culture...then to instantly win, then fall off the radar for 12 more years. I'll be here W/L...

OK, we did manage to sweep them sometimes, but it is a rare thing:

In the 91-game history of the storied Washington-Dallas rivalry, the Redskins have swept the Cowboys only three times in the regular season. (Washington had a victory and a tie in 1961.) Dallas has 14 sweeps. Washington won the first meeting this season 14-13 at Texas Stadium and goes for a sweep Sunday. The Redskins' sweeps:

Season Score
1984 34-14
1984 30-28
1987 13-7
1987 24-20
1995 27-23
1995 24-17

http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/football/13395951.htm

Please please please, make it sweep number four this week.

I would love a big win - but that means with all of the injuries, that allot of backups have to really step up their games.
Also, Brunell has to have a great game. He has faltered a bit - his age is starting to really show.
Just beat Dallas - they are A-H****

I don't want a *BIG* win. A close win would be fine with me. If they beat the crap out of Dallas, they may be too cocky for the Giants the following week. I say two close wins against the Cowboys and Giants going into Philly!

I say keep it close with the pukes, and get revenge against the Gints with a 45-0 thrashing.

I would love a big win...just because my heart pounds and my nerves tremble when the game is close in the 4th quarter.

I would consider a shutout a big win, even if we only won 3-0.

I would love for the defense to shut them out and win by like a FG or two.

i would have to say that they have to win this game not only to stay alive for any postseason berth but being that it,s the cowboys your rival thats had your number for years.
i would say win this game by playin smash mouth football error free football and aggressive defense we can win this game but there has to be zero letup in this game as compared to the chargers game when we came out like gang busters on defense attacked on offense but didn,t maintain it for 4 quarters to allow this team to finish off their opponent.by doing so we ended up osing we can,t afford it this time around so i,m siding with JG.we have to play agressive football on offense and defense -no lettin up with this team for 4 quarters and we will win this game cause the seasons riding on it and the cowboys know it too.

50-0, 50-49, 2-0. I don't care as long as its a W. ;-)

No, because then we'd never stop hearing about Brunell's woes from his detractors. We need to put up at least 3 touchdowns against the Pukes. My 2 cents

I don't look at this as a "turning point". If we lose, then we miss the playoffs. The "turning point" will be the off-season and how we prepare going into next season. These guys are professional enough to move to the next.

The only thing that is missing from this team are the little things and it's those little things as to why we are 7-6 and not 10-3. The off-season will be a time of reflection and adjustments. The result of the turning point will be how we play our first 5 games next year. We have our roster pretty set so now it's year three and time to make that move.

I am not throwing this season out but I am also being realistic that we may or may not win out. Either way, next year is the "turning point" and we should have no excuses.....

I think we can win this game. Taylor is going to have to step it up though, we need to take some pressure off of Moss. I hope Brunell got all his int.s out of his system.

I wish I could be so optimistic, but our passing game has really sucked the last couple weeks. Brunell has to help Portis out a little more against the Cowboys.

Personally I think the X factor in this game is going to be the fans at Fedex. They can make it tough on Bledsoe. Let's hope!

I think we have a good chance of winning, but let me bring up the 91 season when we last won the superbowl. Dallas was the first team to give us a loss that season and they only finished the year with like 2 wins.

I'm gonna say this. We have our hands full. This is a Dallas team with talent everywhere. Normally, we'd match up well...but we're hurt at the worst possible time.
It's going to take every ounce of everything we have left in the tank to win this game...so much, that I think we might have nothing left for NY.
Having said that...I'd have a great offseason anyway if we swept the 'boys and wound up having missed the playoffs.
My hate runs deep.

Don't ever doubt my contributions to this team's success. If you don't believe me chew on this: the last two games I've witnessed in person (SF, DALLAS) have been blowouts (and Mark has played exceptionally well).

He he. So much for "keeping it close".
