OK, I am going to disregard my vow to avoid this issue. It seems that in evaluating the balance of this trade, many people use a flawed equation. That equation assumes that keeping Bailey was a viable option. The Skins made Champ a generous offer, he declined and isn't going to be back. So while on a hypothetical plane having a shutdown corner may be more valuable than a stud running back, that has no relevance to the Redskins as they presently find themselves. The Redskins were left to address a reality that meant the loss of Champ. So any criticism should begin from that standpoint, i.e. did the Redskins get the maximum value for Champ? And that question won't be answered for quite some time.

great points fios. we know we are going to lose him, so we might as well get as much as we can out of it.

And I will believe Denver can continually churn out backs like Portis and Davis when I see it happen.

They will mind you, they will.

I don't see how we are possibly getting the most for him, when he's not all we're giving up. That stupid second rounder is way off the mark. Maybe if we GET a second rounder would I find this a little more pallitible.(sp?)

look at it this way. bailey is gone, regardless. he won't be a skin next year. it's like giving up a second rounder for portis and losing champ to free agency... that help any?

I agree that he is gone and we should get what we can but adding that 2nd rounder is tought to swallow. Considering he does not want to be here and won't be back stright up player for player would seem to be more fair.

oh, he could be here if we really wanted him. I think that's what the franchise tag does for us. I could deal with player for player, but losing a draft pick hurts. Obviously I don't want ChAmp to leave at all, but I am a realist.

wormer, I'd be lying if I didn't agree with you that we're giving up too much.

But I have asked this a couple of times... while the price seems too high... is that second round pick really worth losing out on this trade?

Champ leaving has been a foregone conclusion for some time... I keep reading that Clinton Portis' grow on trees but I just think that's not giving a talented RB his just due. You can find a RB later in the draft... sometimes... it's not like it happens to every RB who's drafted late. If it were... guys like Steven Jackson and Kevin Jones wouldn't be ranked where they are.

potis has proven he can play good football in the NFL, really good football. I don't want to give up the pick, but the thought of a Bugel line with Jansen, Samuels, Dockery and Thomas on it leading the way for a back of that talent just makes my mouth water. countertey right, countertrey left, gut 50... Oh no, not gut 50... play action, 50 yards to Coles for a TD.

Is it September yet?

Million dollar question though... who threw the pass?????

Ramsey in the fourth game of the season after losing Brunell for a few weeks to an injury. This of course is on the heels of Brunell calmly guiding the Skins to a 3-0 record. OK, I have to stop now, it's too far away.

I also believe we are giving up WAYYY too much. We should be getting the 2nd round pick. RB's do grow on trees, its an easier position than corner. Corner is a skilled position its hard to find Baileys, Sanders, Springs, D. GREENS! They don't come around often.

Ramsey is going to start the season, I guarantee it.

BH and Fios, you guys are too much. Even though I diagree with some things that are happening now, I do see good points to both of them(the 2 proposed transactions) and I am VERY excited about this upcoming season. I've never seen the Skins play in front of me before, and this year I will be going to the Cleveland game and coming down to see a home game, TBA. I am so excited.

Champsturf... I'm planning on going to Cleveland myself... only about 5 hours away from where I am in Canada.

There's a rumor going around that wingman may be coming up from PA to meet me. We'll let you know.

I won't be satified with this deal until I see Portis' contract...today it was reported he wants a 20 mil SB...If we don't save 3-4 mil in cap space with this trade we shoudn't make it.

Not having Portis under contract is what worries me, we don't need another holdout. Isn't that one of the main reasons we did the jets deals last year. To prevent holdouts like Ramsey's? Anyway Champ was hurt last year and so was Portis, I'm guessing one of them misses a lot of time this year and thats what will decide who got the better deal in the trade.

man, i felt your pain. back in the preseason when he first refused the offer. but, i began preparing myself for life after champ. it was inevitable to me at that point. i guess i had already accepted it by the time trade rumors had even surfaced.

You know I've ask myself that...if he stayed, what would it be like?? He has said some things that leads me to believe he's not coming back reguardless. I knew this would happen...by that I mean he would get a much better offer from other teams. People keep harping on the fact that the Skins offer him top five money...what they don't realize is we lost Champ a long time ago. That being said it hard for even me to justify paying someone 8 mil a year. I thank him and wish him well

Great points...I'll add this one.

How many 1000 yards back are there?

How many shut down CB are there?

I know I've been a big Champ homer but my glasses aren't so burgundy and gold that I can't see that this is a business. In the end both parties made the best choices for themselfs.
T-6 why so strange??
