He is the worst player in the NFL! How many crucial drops can yopu have. I was listening to the game on the radio and the announcers kept saying how joe gibbs used to have TE's who could catch the ball. Robert Royal needs to be cut. Where was ey?? Why is Royal getting these chances when ey is a more reliable target.
Just venting........
We gotta win St. Louis!

I know this guy named Jimmy, he has a pet....POSTERNUTBAG! Thats his cats name, POSTERNUTBAG!!!
It has been a terrible season for him. I do not think he will be back. He has done nothing to come back next year.

Every week it seems that someone is screaming for one of the players to be cut. Last week it was Portis this week it is Royal. Why not the guy that had the holding penalty that got a 10 yard penalty and took the Redskins out of field goal range? Why not Brunell, who threw away almost as many passes as he completed and couldn't engineer enough 1st downs at the end of the game to hold onto the ball rather than do the 3 zand out dance. How about....?
Amazing how many people are hanging this L on Robert?? Give ma a break!! It happens...you've never had a bad day at work? Yeah I know he dropped passes that my 12 year old would have caught but trust me no one feels worst than Robert himself...we talked to him after the game and my 12 year old told him to keep his head up and Robert aplogized for his performance. Gates dropped a few to...think Marty will cut him ?

Robert Royal stood at his locker, eyes red and moist, wishing he could turn back time on an afternoon he'll never care to revisit.
Royal had four passes thrown to him in yesterday's 23-17 overtime loss to the Chargers and dropped three, including two in the fourth quarter that prevented the Redskins from grinding time off the clock while maintaining a one-touchdown lead.
His personal turmoil was emblematic of a larger and more destructive Redskins malady yesterday. For the second straight week, the defense gave up less than 17 points in regulation, but the offense could not mount a drive when it mattered most.
On their first three possessions of the fourth quarter, the Redskins were nursing a 17-10 lead. On third and five from the Redskins 30, Brunell dropped back in the shotgun and saw Royal running across the field, well ahead of the first-down marker. Brunell threw, and Royal dropped the pass. Royal muttered to himself, trotting off the field.
Near tears, Royal took the brunt of the pain.
"No one really said anything to me," he said. "I said a lot of things to myself. All of it [ticked] me off. It's just not supposed to happen. The only thing you can do is realize it was a bad day, and you still have some games to play."
That's why I didn't boo him. I knew he would be harder on himself more than anyone else would. I'm exactly like that and I respect people like that. People that can take the blame for their mistakes.

While I'm sure he feels bad, and that's admirable, what choice does he have??
I'm not one to usually call for a cut... but when a receiving tight end can't catch the ball... an argument can definitely be made that he shouldn't be employed as a pass catching tight end. And since he can't block, what value does he have as a tight end?
Royal deserves to be at least benched... let Robert Johnson fill the role next week and see how he does... it can't be much worse.
To be honest, johnson really impressed me in training camp... he came in late and still managed to make some solid plays despite not really knowing the system yet...
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

According to the Times, not knowing the systems was his problem in Atlanta and Chicago.
Huh? What does that have to do with it bro? And now you're citing a Washington paper as a source of information.
He didn't know the system in camp because he had just arrived... and he STILL looked better than Royal. I don't know if he knows the system now or not, but I didn't see any evidence that he didn't... nothing blatant like Royal standing there like a pylon two weeks ago as he watched an end rush right past him.
'Hey RJ... run 5 yards and then turn around... Brunell will hit you between the numbers and you just catch it okay?
'OK coach'
That's more than Royal could accomplish yesterday.

Definitely NOT blaming him for the LOSS...but he surely did help in the TEAM effort...and this is NOT his first bad game here recently. Yes we all have bad days...and he's had more than he should lately. When your job means you need to produce one day a week when it counts...then one day a week of nothing but dropped balls is too much. Of course he feels bad. He is a really nice humble guy...I know that - have met him and chatted with him several times. I feel bad for the guy too, I like him...but he really needs to shape up or ship out.

I'll take a trade ANY given day.
Robert Royal is NOT a Joe Gibbs TE. Regardless of whether he plays better later in the season (I hope he does not play again).
A Joe Gibbs TE is a RELIABLE blocker (more often) and receiver (less often but at critical times). He does not block anywhere near as well as other Joe Gibbs talented TEs in the past and as far as receiving is concerned, well ...
I will leave it to you all.
This reaction is not the result of yesterday's game alone. It is the RESULT of his record throughout the season. I am ALL for supporting my Skins on the field. I just hope he does not take to the field anymore. That's all.
We all develop personal appreciation for players but in the NFL it is character and results tht count.

Yeah but ordaning Robert Johnson as the second coming of Dow Warren because he makes one catch is just laughable to me. yes Royal had a bad day...my point is we have bigger fish to fry. I think the Antonio Brown cut was a moved by the staff to say...we aren't going to accept TO's here. Than everyone started fumbling. So do we make a cut every week??

Ummm... actually making the occasional 3rd down catch?

1) You try another option when one has not worked -throughout- the SEASON.
2) Robert Johnson is a desperate move. But it is worth the try.
3) Every week? If that is what it takes, yes, fine by me. It is the time of year when people are held accountable for their actions. Not only players, EVEN coaches around Joe if you ask me.
Joe knows that it all comes down to Ws and Ls. Everything else, Anything else, is just fancy decorations.

I don't think it's the time of year where your held accountable and get cut if you make a mistake...It's to late for that. Acountability is on-going in my book. It is the time of the year to see who is still playing hard and who wants to be here and who do we want to be here next year. For the first time time this season I saw some very long faces on players after the game. How they respond will say alot. One MO of this team has been playing well when the game didn't mean anything....we are not there yet...but the fat lady has entered the building!
