For all those of you who are ready to call it a season take a minute to look at this post. I decided to do a little research on NFL.com and the possiblity of us making the playoffs are a lot greater than you think. Here's the schedule breakdowns for us and the other NFC East teams (who are ALL in the playoff race, surprisingly, even the Eagles)...

WEEK 13- Redskins at St.Louis. St.Louis started a guy named Jamie Martin this week and then bumped down to some rookie named Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick came in and gave them a hell of an effort as they made a comefrom behind win against the Texans. We're not a 1-9 squad like Houston and I think Brunell and Moss will have a field day against the STL D-backs. We win this game handily. We go to 6-6
Giants vs. Cowboys- Both are 7-4 squads coming off losses and hungry for blood. No matter what one of our playoff competitors lose, but for the heck of comparison say the Cowboys win and go to 8-4.
Eagles vs. Seahawks- Think McMahon can lead Philly to a win against Seattle? Doubt it. Eagles drop to 5-7

WEEK 14- Skins at Cardinals- Sure its an away game, but I think this is about as easy as a win we're gonna be getting all season. We're up to 7-6
Giants Vs. Philly- Giants romp the Eagles and are standing at 8-5, Eagles drop to 5-8
Dallas vs. Kansas City- Kansas City is a far superior team to the Cowboys IMO and win this game. Dallas drops to 8-5

WEEK 15- Washington at home vs. Dallas- If we can win on the road in Texas then certainly we can find a way to win against them at home. This isn't a sure thing like STL or ARZ but hopefully we'll find a way to get a win and jump to 8-6 as does Dallas
Giants Vs. Kansas City- Wishful thinking on my part says NYG will lose to KC and drop to 8-6. Whaddaya Know, we're tied up with the Gints.
Philly vs. STL- Philly wins but who cares? Eagles are at 6-8

WEEK 16- Redskins at home vs. Giants- Giants romped us at their house but now its our turn. Once again, not a sure thing but lets say we get a win. We're at 9-6, Giants at 8-7
Cowboys vs. Panthers- No way Panthers should lose this game and drop Dallas to 8-7
Philly vs. Arizona- Philly probably wins, but Arizona might just muster a W. Philly at 7-8

WEEK17- Skins Vs. Philly- Philly doesn't stand a chance, Washington comes to 10-6 and first in the division.
Dallas Vs. STL- If they win theyre at 9-7, doesn't affect us.
Giants vs. OAK- If they win theyre at 9-7, once again doesnt affect us.

FINAL STANDINGS:Skins 10-6, Giants and Cowboys 9-7 (tiebreaker will prob. get the wildcard), Eagles 7-9.

Worst case scenario, we lose to either the Cowboys or Giants, switch spots with them in the standings and we still probably make the wildcard. If we lose to both the Cowboys AND Giants (both are home games), I'd be utterly shocked. Mark my words: We WILL make the playoffs. I'm pretty damn sure of it

I agree that your outlook on the NFC East divisional race shakes out because of the Dallas and NYG losses, but I think our best chance at the postseason is to win our division.

I think 10-6 could conceivably win the division but a wildcard from the NFC South could get in with better records. You also need to pay attention to the Vikings at 6-5...they would have to loose more than two and the Panthers, Bucs, Falcons, Giants and Cowbous would all have to be 9-7 for us to get WC.

Our best bet is to win the division...tough but possible, but we have to do it on the field and not with a calculator

10-6 will win our division no doubt in my mind, but I'm pretty sure that 9-7 could do it for us as well. The Panthers will definitely make the playoffs in the NFC South, but I'm really not too sure about both Atlanta and Tampa Bay doing it. I think Atlanta gets a wild card, but I'm thinking Tampa Bay's luck is gonna start running out. With a QB like Chris Simms and a rookie as your starting RB their success is bound to come to an end

We are not a good team -- there is no way we can go 5-0. We can't beat the Raiders at home and TBay with a 3rd string QB...we will be lucky to be 8-8 this year.

We make way too many mistakes, we never seem to get a break, we have a number of injuries that are hurting us, we're weak in several positions and our play calling is horrible.

I can't say I've ever been more bummed about the Skins in over 25 years of watching them. We've given away so many games this year and I'm really doubting that Gibbs has it anymore... We should have won at least 3 of the games we've lost and I can directly link it to play calling...he is way too predictable. He thinks he can do with Portis and our Oline what he did with Riggins, Rogers and other big backs running behind the Hogs. It ain't working Joe..

While I comend your positivity and I agree with you for the most part..we have to depend on too many variables to hope for a wildcard..It will likely come down to who owns the tiebreaker between the Skins, Vikings, Bucs, Falcons, Cowboys, Giants. It's possible but not nearly as possible as beating the Rams, Cards, Pukes, E-gals, and Gnats.

IF we do that we have a shot at the division anything else would be hoping and praying.

YES, I do still think playoffs...heck I did it last year and I will do it again this year....my only job as a fan is to be hopeful....I can criticize in the offseason or whenever we get mathematically eliminated.

I have been trying to point out that we will make the playoffs this year NOT because we are all that good but IMO no team in our division is that much better AND we have the easiest last 5 games of this great group!!

We might could pull it off but these things must happen first!!!! 1:we don't turn the ball over2:we learn how to call plays in the fourth quarter3:stop throwing to royal and get Moss,Jacobs,Farris,Cooey involved into the passing game then maybe Portis can get going and when he does don't call run play,after run play.

Come on guys and gals, let's get serious now. Turn it around? Do you honestly think it's like flipping a switch. Do you really believe the defense will stop giving up big plays week after week? Do you think the offense will suddenly become Indianapolis like overnight? This team has too many problems on both sides of the ball. Let's worry about finishing at .500 or above. Wait until next year for the playoff talk. The way I see it is that we are a pass rushing defensive end, and a playmaker on offense away from being contenders.

I want to believe that we'll still make the playoffs, but it's awfully hard to believe that we will consistently deliver in the clutch. While we had a great start to the season in terms of clutch performances, this team hasn't shown the will power to play until the final gun. Unless we're well ahead in 1-2 of our 3 division games, I don't see us taking all three. Three close games and we lose at least one, I think.

That being said, it would be idiotic as a Redskins fan to count us as completely removed from the playoff picture. It'd be like saying that a Skins team that is down by 13 in Dallas with 5 minutes to go in the game has absolutely no chance. . .

Does anyone know where I can pick up 53 rabbits feet and a four leaf clover for Gibbs. The one thing that has been consistant since 93 is that the Skins have terrible luck. The coaches have changes, the players have changes, and even the owner has changed, but the one thing that remains constant is their horrible luck.

Have you ever seen a holding call, called in that situation. And make no mistake aboiut it Raybach held him! But it was the type of hold that happens on EVERY single play in the NFL. What got the flag was the fact that he fell on the back of the DT's legs and took him down (leagle, by the way), but he did tug on the DT's waist before he fell. I don't think that that would have drawn the flag if Raybach hadn't landed on that player's legs.

I still think 9-7 will be or record, but no post season.

I made the exact comment to my brother after the game. I have watched so many football games over the course of my 22 years I couldn't even begin to give you a ballpark figure. And never, never, never in my life have I seen a team with the ball that deep setting up for a FG get called for a hold. In my life. I cannot believe that actually happened.

The Redskins playcalling goes into the crapper when they have the lead. Their special teams is awful, and their defensive line is one of the worst in the league. But sometimes I think our biggest problem is that we just have absolutely terrible luck. It's uncanny. We have no luck. We never get a break. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't watch it every weekend.

I like your positive outlook. And playoffs are a possibility a small one at that. The offense is just to mediocre to make some real noise we definately need a consistent wideout. And Brunell dosent exactly lose the game for the skins but he dosent do enough to win them either. The 2005 skins are a upcoming team some bright spots here some dim ones there. Gibbs is doing exactly what he has always done build. The games this year have all been close but we want the Superbowl team now. We have to be realistic. Im still cheering better yet at this point im praying for miracles. The bottom line is our offense is just not doing what it takes to win. I put the blame on Brunell. When your given a lead and you cant put the game away its your fault. man gosh darnitt. Im tired of watching this guy just say oh ill leave in my defenses hands theyll win it for us.

sorry.. i guess being ridiculed the last few weeks for thinking the skins were done everything just came out as frustration. cause that literally was the funniest post i have seen in quite some time. i actually dont use those icons very often at all but it seemed a befitting response to that post for myself. the "miracle switch" isnt getting flipped on this team any time soon.

Great, They could, but first of all, they TURNEDOVER games this year to Denver, Kansas City Blew late 4th Quarter leads against TB, Oakland and SD. The Redskins should have alreay clinched a playoff spot. This season started good, but the disapointing play the 2 weeks might have sealed thier fate. I don't want to say it but their not a playoff team yet. Nothing Ive seen lately says we can run the table and get in.
