Why not Gibbs?

Post by Redskins2k5 »

I blame Gibbs....yes Gibbs.

He has been a terrible coach so far in his 2 years. I give him that the first year was free pass because of his exit in football. This year though after a 3-0 start we've gone 2-6...What has changed???? Gibbs is to SOFT in the O. I love the Redskins but Gibbs has got to go. He is not the same coach of old and NEVER will be.

First I would like to say that I love Joe Gibbs, he is a god as far as Redskins fans go and a Hall of Fame coach by all standards, but.............. I agree he is the reason for our losses. Every week I read here and see everyone blaming the refs or this player or that player, every week it's a different excuse why we lost. The common denominator is Gibbs' play calling. Yes, we have guys who make mistakes and blow big plays, but every week it's someone different and we are all human and are going to make mistakes. But, every game we have lost, except got the Giants, has been a very close game that came down to the 4th quarter. And every game is pretty much the same scenario..... we have the lead, only 7 points, and we get the ball with anywhere from 7-10 minutes left in the 4th quarter and we go into a "prevent offense" and try and run the clock down by running the ball. Then we can't get a first down so we punt and our opponent gets the ball and scores on us then we have no time left to score again ourselves because we just ate the clock up and didn't score.

A 7 point lead in the NFL is NOTHING, one missed tackle or safety slipping and the other team has tied the game. No matter how good our defense is, all it takes is one mistake and the game is tied or we are losing. I have never agreed with a prevent defense and I feel the same about the offense. If mixing up the calls by passing and running has been working the whole game then why change in the 4th quarter? Afraid of an interception? It's just as easy to fumble the ball, so that's no excuse. We need to take the lead in the game and keep playing and extend that lead until the end of the game, period.

I'm so sick and tired of the same crap week in and week out, the same losses, the exact same way. For a "good" football team the loss should never come down to the last play of the game or the refs making bad calls or a few mistakes during the game. A "good" team will recover from the occasional mistake or bad call and still have their offense outscore their opponents. An offense needs to score at least 21 points a game and let the offense do the rest.... we aren't doing that.

As you said, 7 points is nothing. It took the Charges exactly 2 plays to score 7 points in overtime.

i praise thee, redskins-28. i nominate you for the new play-caller because you clearly "get it", while somehow, our 18 jillion dollar coaching staff with 937 years of NFL experience between them doesn't.

gibbs is definitely a great leader, and for that reason alone i'm incredibly grateful to have him around. we have had a complete leadership void at head coach since he left. but the cold hard truth is that right now, there are two options of what's going on:

OPTION 1: our team is full of incredibly stupid players
OPTION 2: joe gibbs is doing a poor coaching job

the sad truth probably lies somewhere in the middle there. the players make stupid drops and penalties at the worst times, but as you discussed, the playcalling itself is inexcusably terrible, full of impossibly flawed strategy that will never be successful.

this is not a matter of having some keen insight into the Xs and Os of NFL offenses, it is a matter of having a brain or not. we, the fans, are seeing something so obvious anyone could see it, while the millionaire coaches are oblivious. how can this be!?!?!? and don't say that can't happen--- we all knew brunell needed the bench last year, but gibbs waited until the season was already down the tubes to make the switch.
