Antonio Brown Visits Redskins Park

Antonio Brown Visits Redskins Park
By Gary Fitzgerald
Redskins.com
November 22, 2005

Antonio Brown was among four free agent wide receivers who visited with team officials at Redskins Park on Tuesday.
As of Tuesday afternoon, there was no word on whether Brown or wide receivers Carl Kearney, Willie Quinnie and Taco Wallace will be signed to the 53-man roster or added to the practice squad.

Originally signed by the Redskins in November 2004, Brown has shown flashes as a kick return specialist, but he has also at times been careless with the football.

Brown, 5-10 and 175 pounds, was released by the Redskins on Sept. 13 after he fumbled a kickoff in the Sept. 11 season opener against the Chicago Bears. In that game, Brown returned two punts for five yards and one kickoff for 16 yards.

After his fumble, he was replaced on kickoff returns by Ladell Betts. The Redskins held on to win 9-7 at FedExField., with Brown's gaffe leading to the Bears' only touchdown.

Last year, Brown played in three games with the Redskins, returning 10 punts for an 8.9-yard return average. He also logged a 66-yard kickoff return in the season finale against Minnesota.

The Redskins are in the market for free agent wide receivers and kick return specialists due to injuries to David Patten and James Thrash.

Patten is on injured reserve after undergoing knee surgery last week and Thrash is expected to miss at least one game with a hamstring injury.

Wallace is a third-year player out of Kansas State who has had brief NFL stints with the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers. Kearney is a rookie out of Georgia Southern who was with the New York Jets earlier this year. Quinnie is a rookie out of Alabama-Birmingham who was with the San Diego Chargers earlier this year.

We could use a speedster like Brown now that Patten's out. Jacobs really disappointed me Sunday. Even though Brown's hands are suspect I'm sure he'll make most catches after creating some separation

i like brown if he can't stop fumbling...who knows.

But we're in trouble if we sign anybody named "Taco"...no good team should ever have anyone named "Taco".

I saw that preseason game in which he muffed that one kick-off return, but other than that, I didn't say any terrible drops. The way the rest of the team has had fumblitis this year, I'd be willing to give a speedster like Brown a little forgiveness for one preseason drop.

Antonio Brown should be nowhere near the wide receiver depth charts. He doesn't catch passes well at all.

yeah but that can be fixed... he has play making ability that we need at the #2, his quickness gives him the ability to catch the ball short and get an extra 15 on top....we has fans have all seen him play more than others have... are you sure you wouldnt give him a second look?

What's so bad about Brown?

Sure he fumbled in like week 1, but we still one that game. Whe Betts fumbled his Kickoff, that basically gave the Chiefs (I believe it was KC) the game winning score.

Personally, I never wanted Brown to leave in the first place.

He fumbled against the Vikings in the last game of the 2004 season. He fumbled in camp and in preseason. He fumbled against the Bears in week 1....is it me or does there seem to be a pattern forming here. Sure the guy is fast but he can't hold onto the ball returing kicks and his hands as a receiver aren't very good either. Like one of the previous posters said, if he was any good he wouldn't be avilable at this point in the season.

Carl Kearney (6-1, 213 pounds) had ONLY 287 reception yards in nine games with the Georgia Eagles in 2002. Never received a pass while with the Jets. Not impressive at all. :(

PROFILE HERE

No photo available.

Willie Quinnie had 627 reception yards in eleven games with the UAB Blazers in 2002. Apparently played with the Rhein Fire fpr a while but I have not seen any stats. Never received a pass while with the Chargers. Not impressive at all. :(

College Career

Emotional player who strives when he is featured in the action...A very effective punt returner who has an explosive burst off the line of scrimmage...Finished his career with 90 receptions for 1,395 yards (15.5 avg.) and 10 touchdowns…Only Robert Porter (92, 1991-94), Cedrick Buchannon (116, 1992-95) and Derrick Ingram (207, 1991-94) caught more passes for the Blazers in a career...His 10 scores rank third on the school's all-time list while his 1,395 yards rank fourth...Played in 29 games, adding 462 yards on 42 punt returns (11.0 avg.), the third-best career totals in school annals.

Lawrence "Taco" Wallace
Never received a pass while with the Seahawks or Green Bay. Not impressive at all. :(

Parson, who played for us last Sunday, does not look too bad at all compared with these guys! Nothing wrong with Parson and Farris if you ask me.

I hope Joe and the staff discover a diamond in the rough somewhere.

Art PLEASE COMEBACK!!! [-o<

I don't think you're crazy at all. He had excellent chemistry with Brunell as well until the Baltimore game when he kept dropping passes.

And some returns as well ...

Joe does not like a team with fumbles. Brown would be the wrong player to bring under the CURRENT circumstances. Maybe later, when they fix his bad ball carrying habits.

It's that little instinct, I dont know how to describe it, but I think he can do it... He has the explosiveness, I know that's not much to say, but we'll see what happens... and if he does come back, I hope im right. (and wear some sticky :D )
