The blitz was supposed to make up for our problems along the d-line, but, certainly, at the end of the game, when you know they HAVE to go deep, calling an all out blitz is a STUPID decision. Apparently, Gregg doesn't read TMQ, who will most ceratinly roast him this week.

plus i hate that john gruden guy. he is piece of white trash just like his fans.

Cheer up, old friend. The team's comin'back for two games at "The House That Jack Built", where we are undefeated. We must protect our house!!!! 7-4 looks reachable.

Greg Williams doesn't seem like a genius to me. Nothing about our defense says that we will advance in the playoffs..if we make it there. Too many guys go for the big hit and hit nothing but air.

On the plus side, it's a good thing that we play a 16-game season, no? That way, we have 7 more tries to prove the detractors wrong, bad defense and all. Numbers and stats don't measure heart. This team has been challenged, and their hearts were ripped out by the officials in the booth. Look for them to turn the season around. My 2 cents

I'd forgotten about the God awful punt. That didn't help....neither did half the team jumping off sides on the extra point try!
God bless our troops and Joe Gibbs.
We'll miss you, Joe.

I wouldn't blame Greg Williams, he has to blitz the front four can not generate a pass rush.

Lets not forget that the offense didn't even try to get the 3rd down.

Now the DEFENSE!?

Post by skinsdeep »

I thought our pride and joy of late was our defense but look at this loss to the damn Bucs. It's pathetic. What happend to hard hitting, insane GW schemes, and good coverage. What's missing, what do we need? The offense has rarely shadowed the D as of late. What do we need to do? Anyone?

stop blitzing all the time, especially on 3rd and long. blitzing is only effective when it's a surprise. if the offense knows it's coming, there is always a way to beat it for a big play.

having some premier pass rushers would help also.we need the push in the front four and we don,t have it at the moment.
given up 36 points in 2 of the last weeks aint lookin too good as compared to last years defense.bring the backers and other secondary people when needed just not all the time your right about that.

keepin it simple we are given up too many big plays this year.

And here's what TMQ (Greg Easterbrook from NFL.com) had to say about our defensive collapse:
Stop Me Before I Blitz Again!
Washington leading City of Tampa 28-21, the Bucs faced third-and-9. Since the average NFL play yields about six yards, all the Redskins had to do -- anyway it's a six-blitz, 46-yard completion. Two snaps later Washington six-blitzed again, touchdown pass. Now it's Washington 35, Tampa 28 with 1:05 remaining, Bucs on the Skins' 30. Blitz; Edell Shepherd is single-covered deep, touchdown and the stage is set for the fateful ending.

It wasn't as bad as it could have been, but, nevertheless, it highlights the bad calls at the end. Oh, well. Hopefully we get our act together to pound the Faiders.

Jeez, now Williams is an idiot, is he? He wasn't an idiot at the start of the season, and he wasn't an idiot at the end of last season.

The defence isn't playing well enough, we don't have enough push from the front four, and we have some players banged up. We're still not running the ball well enough on offence (if Tampa hadn't stuffed the running game in the second half, they wouldn't have had two minutes to score at the end of the game), and protection breakdowns are leading to Brunell's fumbles.

These are reasons for the loss, but Williams has not become an idiot in the space of a few weeks.

Good grief, I'm glad I didn't come to this site when the Redskins were really bad.

Yes, it was idiotic to continue to blitz. It was 3rd and 9. The blitz had not worked all day, why not just play good honest defense, rush 4 and cover? Yeah it was an idiotic call by Williams, especially considering we weren't full strength in the secondary. Oh well, it's time to forget it and move on.
