When is Jason Campbell going to be ready??

Post by VASkin27 »

I admit it, I was the first one to jump on the Brunell bandwagon, and he has been doing a great job. Don't get me wrong!

BUT, I don't care if he can see the defender or not, fumbling is no one's fault but his own. It would nice to have a bigger, stronger QB who won't drop the ball every tim he gets hit.

With that in mind, anyone know when Campbell is going to be ready? Anyone know Gibbs' plans?

No one can tell what Gibbs will do, but dont consider Campbell the savior just yet. He is still a rookie and it wont be pretty once he begins to start whenever that is, there is a given ammount of time that he WILL make mistakes that will cost us games, and his legacy will be written on if he can overcome that and become a good qb or not Eli has been doin it much of this season, but he was awful in his first games, Simms did it tonight, but he has been awful in every one of his other starts. This is why i want to milk Brunell as long as possible because as long as he can maintain a certain level of play then he will give us the best chance to win, only when it is shown that he is done will i want to see Campbell start, and honestly i dont think he has done enough to make me want to see him on the bench just yet.

Everyone is on the Mark Brunell bandwagon, saying how great he is doing, come back player of the year ....... yada, yada, yada .... how may times has he fumbled? Ramsey fumbled once and got yanked. Brunell has fumbled 13 times.

I think our best chance is with Brunell.

It may be ugly at times, but I feel he is a leader of this team and he is our best chance to succeed.

Why would you ask that right now... Brunell came in to today's game with the fewest INT's amongst NFC starters, and was ranked as high as 2nd in the NFL in the last month as far as QB rating goes...

On top of that, Patrick Ramsey not Jason Campbell, has been listed as the team's backup in each game since week one. In the only game he's appeared in since the opener he drove the offsense down the field and would have tossed a TD if not for yet another Robert Royal drop.

Who cares about Jason Campbell right now. We're not the Texans or 49ers. The Redskins are a game out of first place with three divisional games to go.

Exactly, there is NO way Jason Campbell gives a better shot at winning right now.

it would be silly to put campbell in, but there is absolutely NO excuse for a 13 year veteran fumbling in the red zone at least once a game. what are the coaches doing (or not doing) every week that this has not been corrected???

JCam gives us our most mobile option
PRam gives us our strongest arm
and Boonell gives us fumbles and ints but is also our best defense reading QB

Solution? if we lose to Oakland BENCH BRUNELL and get on with the process that will ultimately lead to Cambell being "The Guy"

Hey, Redeemed... is it just me, or do IQ's seem to be slipping around here? Bench Brunell??? Are you people nuts? Never mind... from all the squirrels that are starting to gather, I have my answer.

I don't know, man. I think that, before commenting on the intelligence of our posters, they should undergo eye exams because they are certainly not watching the same games I am.

That being said...we need to bench Gregg Williams. Is George Edwards still on speed dial??

Every week after a Redskin loss the same garbage gets posted up here and the next week when we win those same dreadful posters come back and kiss the behind of Brunell, Portis and Co. First off with Brunell and his fumbles, its not always his fault, i.e. the ones where he runs with the ball away from the body, but yesterday, Robert Royal missed the snap count and o-lay-ed the defender to sack brunell. The Bucs got a gift touchdown on that one fumble at the Redskins 8 yard line and the other gift came on that BS push out at the beginning of the game. We lost, that is the bottom line. As a TEAM we lost. How can you even claim that anyone should be our quarterback more than Brunell? Both interceptions were taken out of the hands of the recievers. One was a tip. Yeah Campbell would be alot better!

Please if you finicky fans are going to protest for benchings and moan about every loss instead of viewing the positives in these games then go root for someone else, the Skins don't need you.

Fact of the matter is, we are supposed to win at home. Lets say we go 7-1 at home or we screw up and go 6-2 at home. That means we have to win 4 games on the road. We've already done Dallas in Dallas, which means we need to get Arizona, St. Louis and the Eagles. Two of those sound very winable and the latter, depending on the implications of the game could be very interesting.

All in all, stop whining! Road games are hard to win, our boys come home on Sunday and its time to show why FedEx is the hardest place to play in, in the NFL!!!! God Bless our Troops, God Bless our Country, and GOD Bless our REDSKINS!!!

Wait a second--I agree that we should not be starting Jason Campbell, but can we drop the histrionics about people expressing their opinion?

Look, the skins are not that good yet...that's what happens from having several years of terrible coaches and irresponsible spending. However, Coach Gibbs and even Coach Williams are steadily improving the team.

Having said that, is there anyone on this site who is non-delusional enough to realize that if the Skins make the superbowl this year, it'll be a fluke, a lot like the last time the Giants made it? That our best game came against the 49ers? That our defense, hailed for being plug and play, gives up at least one to two big plays a game?

So, perhaps starting Jason Campbell isn't smart because he's not ready. Perhaps it's not smart because he gives us no chance to win at the moment. But, I'll say this, when he's ready, I'll take real development for once from the Skins over limping into the playoffs in weak NFC. Playoffs are great---but Super Bowls are all that matter, and the way you win Super Bowls in the modern NFL is BUILD A TEAM!!! The best teams in the game (Pats, Panthers, Eagles before, Colts, etc) have all done this---so, let's just take it easy before we start calling people bandwagon, or question their intelligence---it's entirely possible that they may just view Mark Brunnell for what he is--an aging, and wily veteran who puts the ball on the ground too damn much...Perhaps they see a time when this skins team, running a scheme suited to benefit Portis, can count on Campbell to drop back and make the right read---and they realize that team, hypothetical as it may be now, is way better than the team now...

The greatest problem with every skins blog I've seen is this type of mob mentatlity, by which people attack any dissenting opinions. Just look at the last post by DCGloryYears...do you occupy some position with the Skins organization? Can you say for a fact that the skins do not need these fans? I can tell you what I know to be true---Daniel Snyder appreciates their money when he sells them a ticket; Coach Williams appreciates their lungs when they're screaming by the endzone...

Yes, in the end, there are positives in everything--for one, Clinton Portis had perhaps his best total game as a skin against the top rated defense...The offense put up nearly 400 yds on that same D...and yet we lost...we are a flawed team, and there's nothing wrong with people voicing their opinion about how to fix that flaw...instead of calling them stupid, or questioning their "fanhood," why not just present your arguments and move on?

Fluke? I, for one, would be the first to take out a loan to pay for Super Bowl tickets. Put a Gibbs team in the Super Bowl, and we'll be parading down Pennsylvania Ave. in February, guaranteed.

What a silly statement to make. Fluke?

Are you kidding? You think this skins team is a legit super bowl contender? A team that's 21st against the run? Got blitzed 36-0 by another overrated team? Let a young qb throw no picks, and drive his team down?

Now, let's do a little review--
1982-12th in offense, 1st in pts allowed
1987-5th in offense, 6th in pts allowed
1991-1st in points scored, 2nd in pts allowed

2005-18th in scoring, 19th in pts allowed (behind such vaunted d's as Green Bay's and Cleveland's)

See, this is exactly what I'm talking about...if I told Redeemed Skin that, midway through the season, a team that was 18th in scoring and 19th in pts allowed was going to win the Superbowl, or that they even got into the Superbowl, he would (assuming he's a rational being) say that was crazy, that for that to happen, the Colts, who are top 5 in both, would have had to tank it, etc...

However, now tell him it's the Skins, and see how quickly it's all about Coach Gibbs and Williams---well, here's the unfortunate thing, those are our coaches now, and that's what we've got---18th, and 19th...

Now, I'm still happy about this team--it's getting better, it's better than it's beein years, and it's going to be pretty awesome...but let's hear facts, let's discuss facts, and let's at least be honest about it...

The most important stat is this: 1.000 -- Joe Gibbs record in the Super Bowl. Period.

The man knows how to win the big game. Given that stat, I think we can take ANYONE in the Super Bowl. Keep your petty rationalizations, Joe's leadership ability trumps them any day. My 2 cents

Who wants to be the first to remind RedeemedSkins that Joe Gibbs' Superbowl record is not 1.000?

What happened against the Raiders?

Now, once again, Joe Gibbs has tremendous leadership ability, which has led him to 3 super bowl victories and 1 loss...and my point was that part of what helped him in those wins was a team that was better than the one we have now.

Undoubtedly, Joe Gibbs turned those teams into a Super Bowl team. He could do it with this one. However, the way they are playing now, that seems unlikely, despite the great leadership skills...

And I'll say it one more time---I like what Gibbs is doing with this team. He's turning them into an EVENTUAL super bowl contender. But to say that Gibbs' leadership abilities trump my petty rationalizations (which I assume are the stats kept by the national football league) is to suggest that he has nothing to do with the team now. With those leadership skills, why are we 18th and 19th? Because the team isn't that good yet. There are 7 games to go, maybe they'll turn it around...I'd be pretty excited, and if it happens, feel free to come crow in some sort of crass way...but please don't insult my intelligence with boring cliches either...tell me why you think Gibbs can do it...do you see something in our offense that can exploit all the other teams? Or perhaps in our defense?

The point of the stats is to show that, for the most part, Gibbs has built great teams...see that word, BUILT...which is what he's doing now...but if you're willing to accept 18th and 19th as signs of his greatness, then I think that demeans the greater project...but, I should pull back before treading on the very ground I criticized...feel free to have your blind faith RedeemedSkin...I'll continue to look for real improvement and look forward to the day, soon, when the Super Bowl is a realistic goal...

I think Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are tainting everyone's beliefs a little bit. Everyone watches those two future hall of famers play and they think it is so easy and that every other QB in the league should be just like them, or that they just grow on trees. How you even say anything Mark Brunell this year making mistakes is beyond me. Yes, he has made mistakes this year but who hasn't? More than half of the time it has been botched protection or just bad blocking that has caused brunell to fumble. Everyone was complaining we haven't had a QB here in years now we finally have one playing at a VERY HIGH level and people are still complaining. Campbell will be ready when he is ready.
