The Flaw with the Call!!
OK I’ve watched “the play” over and over and here’s the “flaw with the call” Neither official initially signal touchdown. I have reffed and one of the first things they teach you is… don’t call what you don’t see. Neither refs saw a TD, it wasn’t until the ref on the right came in and saw Alstott over the goaline that he signaled TD. That was it…if he had not called TD there was not evidence to overturn the play.

If anything, it took a long time to blow the play dead. I guess they needed enough time for Alstott to wiggle around enough for them to fulfill the screw job of the Redskins. They are so conniving!!!!

Yes that's the point the replay was really moot!! The refs wouldn't have overturned the !play either way

I agree that DE HOg is absolutely right. The refs are idiots who play guess work. The appropriate thing to do in that situaiton is to not signal TD....and review the play.
The reason being, you need conclusive evidence to overturn a call. If they don't signal TD, then they have to look for indisputable evidence that Alstott crossed the goal line..there was none...the burden is higher when they call a TD and try and cover their tracks later.
Tell me this Mr Ref. If one hundred replays either show a) that you can't see the ball, or b) that he was down...how can you make the call that there was a TD.
Clearly they should have kept their arms down since they obviously didn't really see it.

I hear waht you guys are saying, and I agree, perhaps they shouldn't have said anything.
However, wouldn't the booth review it anyway? And, if so, what do you all think are the chances of their calling it a good 2-pt conversion??? I think, in the home stadium, the chances are that the Sucs still get the call.

I see your point, but since they called it a TD...they needed indisputable proof that he didn't make it to overturn. (hard to tell in some shots)
If they do the prudent thing and don't signal TD since they didn't see it, then the replay would have had to show conclusively that he did cross the plane.
Since we all know that the replay didn't conclusively show that he did cross the plane, our chances for the play to stand would be good.
But given our track record with the refs, they probably turn a blind eye to it anyway.

My point is this...If you don't see a TD on the intial view...you can't came running in from the sideline and signal TD. In the Steelers game last night you saw the ref not signal a TD for Hines Ward right before the half. (Ward was clearly in, but because the ref didn't see him crossed the line he didn't signal TD) I think this is the right call for the ref on the field. Since the Steelers didn't have any TO's left they lined up and ran a play. If they had a timeout or the clock was stop it would've gone to the booth and gotten overturn.

Exactly...you should apply to be a ref...we need more people who actually use their common sense calling these games.

I think this shot makes it pretty clear that Alstott didn't get in on the 2 point conversion.

Can someone find out who the ref was who make the call and who looked at the review video? If we dont make it to the playoffs, dont get home field advantage, or win the division because of one game, I will hunt the man down.
