John Clayton picks us to win the NFC East!

Post by hkHog »

Here's an excerpt from his "Crystal Ball" column today:

NFC East: Based on the schedule, the Redskins might have the best chance to pull out the division. This four-way race, though, should go down to the last two weeks. The Redskins' remaining foes have a combined 34-31 record, and the biggest challenges should come within the division. The two games against winning teams outside of the NFC East are vs. the Bucs and Chargers. They have winnable games against the Raiders and Cardinals. That's a far cry from what the Cowboys face.

The Cowboys have the toughest closing schedule in the division, against teams with a combined 39-25 record. Six of their next seven games are against winning teams, and they close with a tough one against the Rams. The other problem is location. They have three division games remaining, all on the road. They were 2-1 in the division home games. To make up that loss to the Redskins earlier this season, they have to win one or two divisional road games.

The Eagles' season could be determined in the next two weeks. They face the Cowboys Monday night and the Giants the following Sunday. If they lose both games, the season is pretty much over. They're already in last place, and they would lose their chance to catch up to the other winning teams in the division. They are already 0-2 in the NFC East and will start losing the tiebreakers if they can't make up ground over the next two weeks.

The Giants have a great chance to win the division or get a wild-card berth. They get the benefit of playing the Chiefs at home in December, but their other three December games are all on the road, and that could be tricky. All the teams in this division will have a tough time getting to 11 or 12 wins because they have to play too many good teams. Each team could end up playing a dozen games this year against teams with records of 8-8 or better. Plus, they will be beating up each other so much, the losses from those games will affect their seedings.
Prediction: Redskins win division, Giants grab wild card.

Its probably true that we have easiest remaining games. But he neglects to mention that we've played the toughest schedule to date.

I couldn't believe it when I read that. I was pretty sure he would pick Dallas to win the division and the Giants to snag the wild card. Craaaaaazy.

Gotta quit reading this stuff though. Makes you forget the team still has to go out there and play these games!

However there may be two wild cards coming out of the east if everyone minus the eagles has over 10 wins. look at the way the rest of the NFC shapes up. If it come down to tiebreakers in the NFC the East has it locked up.

http://www.nfl.com/standings/conference

NFL.com still hasn't updated their stats but currently we rule strength of schedule and strength of win. (Thank you San Fran)

IMO that would make this season even better if we can leave the Defending NFC Champs from being the only team in the NFC East not to be invited to the playoff party.

This weeks game is huge. The Panthers, Falcons or Bucs are gonna get one of the wild cards. We need to win there to keep our conference record advantage.

We're going to have to sweep the Cowboys and/or the Eagles to get over the hump. I thought last week's game was a must win to keep the season on track, but if we beat the Bucs on the road, then I'll really start to believe.

Does the bandwagon stop anywhere near England?

I dont know if I want to stop the bus for you if you dont believe yet. That is one of the requirements for getting on the bandwagon, blind unshakeable faith.

We should defeat the Bucs in a close game. We have to get our rush defense and rush offense back on track though.

They are all idiots...but they are journalists...,they say things to get people to read their columns...if someone predicted the Pats to win..no one would read...this year the popular team to pick is the Gnats...vs Colts why??? press is preoccupied with the Manning boys.....sorry to burst their bubble...but the Skins will represent the NFC this year....

After our first round bye, we will beat the Giants and Falcons in route to Detroit....

Just add them to the list of doubters who are embarrassed and have to pick our playoff games this year.

I predict a 12-4 finish. NFC East champions and First Round Bye.
